• IXO PORSCHE 917k Build... Tonight's video will be the beginning of a diary type of format (part 1), building one of the very first 1/8 scale PORSCHE 917k model kits by IXO, to hit America! I can't wait to build this insanely massive kit!! ----- Also, PLEASE take a moment to watch the short ads in the beginning of each video, that way the channel can at least secure some revenue to be able to keep this thing going; otherwise I'll have to start begging for donations and I'm sure none of you would want that! : ) Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for more video updates! -See ya guys soon!

Hello follow model enthusiasts! I pre-ordered my kit with Brady at ScaleAutoWorks dot com. He was great to deal with... if you guys would place an order, please tell him Royce from Pedal2Metal on YT referred him to you. Thanks!
Thanks for the update! It looks like you'll have a nice project to enjoy during your holiday break. I have seen a number of the Pocher builds on TH-cam as well, and I have to agree, the 1970 short-tail is also my favorite body shape for this car. And the Gulf livery is definitely the iconic choice.
From what you've shown, this kit seems pretty well put together. The manual also seems well done. Overall it looks pretty impressive. I have to agree with your philosophy about the build. It is way too easy to get overly detailed, and once you start down that road, it only seems to get more intense. I'm now in the middle of that with my 1/12th Tyrrell 003. Embrace the fact that this is a die-cast kit put together with screws and have fun with it.
I will be looking forward to your continued build. And I've already started saving up my nickels and dimes for my own kit.
Another great video, the more you show, the more I need to buy this kit!
It's pretty amazing!
Looks great. One criterion I like to use for detailing is the visibility to others versus the time spent ratio. I would focus on getting the body panels to fit properly. I'd do a check fit of the chassis and major body panels. If the gaps and fit aren't right that will be what everyone notices.
With this being a diecast metal kit there aren't really any gaps to check, so to speak. But I understand what you're saying about time vs visibility. Thanks for the watching and commenting
I am currently building the Pocher 917 and loving it. I believe the IXO has double the parts and looking at those driveshaft donuts I can see why..
I'm so glad to hear from you, Nigel; I follow your channel (and your bullds) and was very curious if the pocher/ixo molds are the same, etc
I saw the 917K movie car (chassis 917-022) in Vegas during F1 this year. It was in Wynn/Encore on display. The rotors were slotted, not drilled. Given Jerry Seinfeld's goal was to restore the car to original (after Dickie Attwood and the other owners and liveries from the past), I'd be surprised if they overlooked the rotors in that pursuit to faithfully restore the car.
Incredible videos. I'll definitely be watching this build. Thank you for the awesome content.
I noticed that too when I zoomed up on recent auction pics of the car... I'm nearly 100% positive that Porsche never used slotted rotors in 70 nor 71. I suspect Gunnar racing added them for track time with modern concerns in mind. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I don’t think it was an overlook. Finding 50 year old parts or finding a source that would produce discs according to 1970s standards might not be easy.
This kit is incredible. Thank you for posting these videos !
I'm not sure if they do hot rods, but if I ever saw a kit for the......
Hot Rod Project X 57' Chevy (Hollywood knights movie 1980)
I think I'd buy it !
Thanks for watching the videos, I appreciate it greatly! A large-scale hot rod kit would be awesome!
I found 2 photos, 1 of a original starter (Anlasser) for sale of a 917 showing in white(ish). I don’t think they stayed white for long and the one for sale, the paint chipped off pretty heavy. It even showed some little red paint.
That's very interesting! I have so many 917 books and have been "into" them for 40 plus years, and have never seen a white starter motor for them. But, that's not to say the reference car for this build didn't have white or when it was new, perhaps... hard to say. I found an original, period color photo of the starter on the Martini Longtail (chassis 917-042) and it's exactly as I thought it would be... and as I painted it; so who knows! Lol Thanks for watching and commenting... I appreciate it!
@@Pedal2Metal_on_TH-cam i am building the same model sold through Agora Models and collecting for over a year pictures on the internet or watch restoration videos on youtube. Since the 917 was raced for decades and modified multiply times, it is not easy to find pictures of all the details from 1970/71.
@rolandruesch6862 Exactly. I just finally found a video on Gunnar racings channel showing a restored 908 Longtail starting up and the stater is definitely gloss white all over. Hmmmmm
@@rolandruesch6862 I just now found a video showing a gloss white starter on a 908 lh on gunnar racings yt channel. Ugh. Oh well, I'm leaving mine blk.
Earned my sub! I've had my eye on this set. Have you mentioned the cost?
Thanks for the add, I appreciate it! I have in other comments... tbf, the prices are all over the place depending on where you live. I purchased my kit from Brady at ScaleAutoWorks dot com. If you would buy from his company, please let him know I referred you to him! He was great to deal with on the pre-order end etc.
@ will do. Be on the lookout for my other channel The Yogi Collection. I usually keep hobby talk there and automotive talk with Yogi’s Garage but this is the exception since it’s practically a real car. 😂
The Yogi Collection is on a 1/64 binge atm, but I’m going to start covering models of larger scale. ✌🏼 from Texas.
Hallo, the Rubberclutsh ( Hardydisc)from the Driveshaft is wrong. 90 Degrees. I Love my Kit to. L.C. Suisse
The difference between this kit and the Aventadore kit I bought are night and day. The directions for the 917 kit should set the standard for the industry.
The Lambo kit by Pocher?
What do I think? Subscribed. And I want one! Already buy IXO 1/43.
THANKS for subscribing, I appreciate that greatly!
Is there a brand that offers prepainted model kits in a smaller scale? I'd want one of these but I don't have the space to display this.
Yes, maisto and Bburago both make 1/24 diecast kits, but no one offers a 917 kit unfortunately... thanks for watching and commenting!
it looks like a light silver, for the starter
I found an original color photo of the starter on the Martini Longtail (chassis #042) and it's exactly as I thought it would be... and as I painted it. I've pulled so many Bosch starters over the last 30 some years to know white is def wrong.
how about make it RC !!
Lol... I don't think that would be very wise or even possible... it's a heavy diecast metal model.
@@Pedal2Metal_on_TH-cam a sweet dream....;)
my thoughts are the same
Still unsure whether Pocher, IXO or Agora is the way to go. Seem the price points are in that order with Agora being the most expensive. Pocher parts come on sprues so guessing will require sanding etc. whereas agora seems the most ‘beginner’ friendly - whixh is what I am.
The other difference seems to be electrics. I believe Pocher does not have electrics whereas agora does. What about IXO?
Any modeling veterans have recommendation on the different company variants? My initial take is if you are experienced and want to improve parts etc pocker or IXO is the way to go. If you just want to build straight out of the box then it’s Agora?
Hello, I zoomed up on all of the Agora pics and looked closely at materials containing videos etc and have definitely come to the conclusion that the Agora IS the exact kit as the IXO. Pocher has the 1971 body and does not have lights or sound... and less parts... and is as you mentioned less money. I might build the 1971 body style eventually so I can compare the two out of curiosity. I hope that helps.
@ thanks this is super helpful. Agora have decent customer service but beyond that not sure why one would pay 3-500 more (depending on currency).
I will be keenly following your build. Would be great if you can detail what mods you do and why as you go a long
@@Pedal2Metal_on_TH-cam also just checked IXO has over 800 parts whereas Agora has around 600. The case for IXO over agora is getting stronger
dissapointed a bit, i thought you were filming the assembly process with background music, but you keep talking and not assembling, wont watch this sorry and have fun
Lol... okay, you have fun. I have more on other videos. It's called a build diary for a reason. You're welcome to tip me, and then maybe I'll film each little segment. Not!
Using phillips screws on a claimed 'scale' model is unforgiveable. Scale hex and allen hardware is available.
Unforgivable? Lol... wow, very dramatic. I do intend on ordering nicer hardware for the very visible locations. I have one kit of tiny watch making hardware that I found yesterday....
@@Pedal2Metal_on_TH-camExactly. This is a die-cast model, FFS.
In scale modelling (aircraft in particular) there are 'rivet counters'. This dude is an example.
