Lovely performance, great song - Garcia and Hunter were two of the best songwriters ever - sadly overlooked at times - moving performance of a classic - well done Sierra
I listened to this several times, with my old dog's head on my lap, playing harmonica... She is gone now... and you played this tonight. I can't thank you enough, it was just perfect.
Love this. Really love the way Sierra has been stretching her wings the last few years. Somehow she managed to stay true to the song, but add a bluegrass layer. Now if she would only cover Ripple.
Sierra has gone from young phenom, through another level I'd call explorer and growing star; to a place of ease, maturity and skill where she can make every song and every collaboration shine! 5:39
Have to look away to appreciate how well this young lady interprets BMR. The youth and beauty distract me from the message of impending death, yet once I get past that I can hear her understanding and empathy. Few of us come so close to death, yet come back to share the impending mortality in such a beautiful and accessible way.
Beautifully done! There have been many great song writing duos: Lennon-McCartney, George and Ira Gershwin, Jagger-Richards, etc, etc but Hunter-Garcia top them all for reasons too innumerable to count
Mighty Fine cover🎵 Sierra is very talented. The rest of the band sounds great too..If you have never listened to the Sturgill Simpson cutting the grass sessions with Sierra.. you are missing out
Great performance by Sierra of a song by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead. Its sad but many of their songs are seldom played anymore.
Lovely performance of a great song. But Sierra is still too young to really do it justice. I would love to hear her sing it again 30-40 years from now.
So she needs to be 60 or 70 years old to do justice to a song Jerry started singing at age 44? Glad he didn't have the same restriction, since he never reached 60.
@@adumbberg Jerry had experienced more wear and tear at 44 than most people have at 88. The song is about a weary death. Is Sierra anywhere close to a weary death? I don't think so. The song requires the singer to know years of suffering, or the full feeling just ain't there.
I believe this song is about aging and looking back on your life. I think Hunter wrote it at 45. But can't anyone with empathy do this song justice? Musicians are creative and imaginative. Performance certainly has much in common with acting. And young people can have old souls, and the other way around. 😊
The problem with Sierra Hull singing *Black Muddy River" is she sounds to darn cute. You need a raspy voice sloppy drunk like Janice Joppolin to sing that.

Lol Jim Hendricks you smelly hippie
When you're my age the song brings you to tears no matter who does it 🤟🤠
Same for me brother!!!! The music will never stop!!!!😎✌️
Did you see Jim Hendrix when he was alive?
Agreed. Love you my friend.
@@shoutingatclouds1050 I did. Four times. It's "Hendrix" not Hendricks.
count me in as another old geezer who is still on the bus.
Oh my aching heart. Always bring tears to my eyes and a longing in my heart. I would love to be able to see Greg Allman one more time. Well done❤
I didn't know that Gregg Allman sang a version of this song. I'll have to look that up.
@@ElleDubsDubs Check out Southern Blood. I believe it was one of his last recordings
...do they have youtube in heaven? this has always been one of my wife's favorites.
They don't have TH-cam in heaven but Jerry is in heaven singing it to her live ❤

Saw Bob perform this at Humphreys in the Fall of '22. Such a beautiful song.
Sierra can do anything. Incredible.
not to distract from *all* the good stuff happening here but that bass sounds GREAT!
Voice is beautiful as she is . My favorite Dead song . Interpret to be about growing old. Might be wrong. But That's how it hits me

I think Jerry would be smiling.

Damn Sierra does a wonderful job on this. Her pace is just a little. quicker -- to make it to that other side
