I don't even compare the two guitarists. They both are great at what they do and changed the world of music with their talents. You need to go back a few years to really hear some kick a** Van Halen. Ain't Talkin Bout Love, Mean Streets, Runnin' with the Devil, And the Cradle Will Rock....so many more. 🔥🔥
the prelude to this song is the 1984 track. I used to go into high end stereo shops in Dallas TX with a cassett (yeah, Im old), and played that track to test out the $$$$$$%$ stereos... I got run out of so many places.... lol.... .
When it comes to guitar players, you may can compare similarities, but they all have such individual styles that you can’t really put them up against each other. They’re all just different. Plus what they were doing in certain time periods matter a lot. Like Jimi Hendrix was so transcendent in his time that he literally took all music and what you could do with a guitar to an entirely different place. Same with Van Halen. No one was doing this shit, playing like that back then. Now tons of people can do it and add that flavor into their own music, but in the beginning, it was just him. Music doesn’t become what it is now without people like that.
I was 15 when this album was released and it was a force of nature. These guys took over MTV. The older Van Halen fans around didn't like it because of the synthesizer being used in several of the songs. About a year before 1984 came out, I bought Diver Down on cassette and that was the beginning of my experience with Van Halen.
This was the last of the original VH and then SAMMY Hagar was lead singer and they were great also ..The early original stuff was wild and very enjoyable like Aint Talkin Bout Love and DEAD OR ALIVE ...
You said it best they play two totally different styles and shouldn’t be compared. They are both great and both added something unique to guitar playing style and technique
Thanks for a great reaction. Its impossible to not feel good listening to this track. Perhaps it's worth checking out a Sammy Hagar era Van Halen song to diversify your VH experience. Any of the followinh are sure to please: Best of Both Worlds, Dreams, Cabo Wabo, Why Can't This Be Love, Finish What Ya Started, Runaround, Top of the World, or their smash hit Right Now. Is stick to studio versions or official music videos for these. You cant go wrong with any of them.
Stevie Ray, was a great blues player, but his style and phrasing comes straight from how Jimi Hendrix played blues. Stevie was a great naturally gifted player. Eddie Van Halen changed music, set a bar that all playing that followed it would be judged and left the players before him in the dust. In rock and roll, there are 2 players that were ground breaking and game changing....Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen.
JUST HEARD ABOUT THIS! JUST SHOCKED. I was just saying how you gyuys give me great music to react to and must of them are gone to soon. Then I see this... God rest his soul
Thanks for doing this reaction. If you really want to be able to evaluate Eddie as a guitar player, jump wasn't the best option because it was mostly him on keyboards. Having said that, check out Panama, Hot for Teacher, Unchained, Mean Street, I'm the one, beautiful girls, somebody get me a doctor. That should do it.
I don’t know how much you know about Van Halen. Alex is playing the drums and is Eddie’s brother. Eddie had started out playing the drums, but Alex I guess took over his drum set. The rest is history. Michael Anthony is the bassist. The lead singer there is David Lee Roth. The original Van Halen. They broke up in 1985. Then enter Sammy Hagar the new lead singer. Some people would refer to them as Van Hagar. Sammy Hagar was in a band Montrose and then had a solo Career with some hits: There’s Only One Way to Rock, Your Love is Driving Me Crazy, Heavy Metal, I Can’t Drive 55, ect. So he already had a following. So here is another debate. Which Van Halen was better? I like them both. But what I’ve heard and read Sammy is the better technical singer. David is the better show man. Songs with David ( Diamond Dave) : Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love, And the cradle will Rock, Happy Trails, Dance the Night Away, Hot for Teacher, ect. Songs with Sammy(Red Rocker and his fans are called Red Heads): Why can’t this be love, Love comes walking in, Right Now, Finish what you started.
@@dipsydoodle7988 Thank you. I know that, but my dyslexia gets in the way sometimes. One time I flunked a True and False test because I spelled True wrong. I also like Michael Anthony's singing voice. Thanks again. I am going to edit the comment to his correct name.
This is definitely not the song for a shred fest. Having said that, EVH has attained the status he has for so much more than technical ability (which he doesn't lack). I feel like a broken record at this point trying to help a generation that missed all EVH brought to the table understand. I think the bottom line is that it isn't necessary to rank guitarists of this caliber because they are all capable. What you do have to consider is all around influence and significance in music. I know who comes out on top for me when I consider all of that, but truly, you still don't have to choose. Every guitarist is unique. They can't be compared. Some VH bangers you have to listen to; Ain't Talking Bout Love, Out of Love Again, Full Bug, Mean Streets, Drop Dead Legs, DOA, Everybody Wants Some and of course for some video fun, Hot For Teacher and Panama. For some Van Hagar, try Poundcake, Aftershock, and Right Now.
Band better than the singer!! Ok another suggestion, this one from the mid sixties: Fire by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.....now that IS spectacular! Thanks again for your choice of music and reaction. Stay safe, blessings.
A nothing song. This does nothing to showcase Eddie's talent. The video is cool but the song is junk. This was a Pop sellout song. Fun to listen to but it's just fluff.
One of the best songs ever.
No. Van Halen has at least a dozen much better songs.
70's-80's greatest era for music

R.I.P. Eddie :(
😢😢 will be doing a tribute
Great reaction! My personal favorite band. Eddie is the reason why I started playing guitar in 80.🤘🎸👊
Eddie's talent was so insane that his brother Alex, the drummer, get's overlooked which is a shame. He's awesome.
Panama and Hot For Teacher are some more fun videos from them.

I always recommend these guys playing their shreddeiest tune, Loss of Control.

This was their first number one single. Also their most commercial. Try a song called "Girl Gone Bad". The early albums too.
Thanks enjoyed this.
RIP Eddie Van Halen. Another legend gone. :(

You have to listen to theold stuff like the first couple of albums the two guitarist your talking about one blues amd the other is rock ED is king.
After this song, most beginner/intermediate keyboards had to have this sound as a preset or they just wouldn't sell.

SRV is great. But it's King Edward

David Lee Roth must have been a cheerleader with that flexibility.
Several belts in martial arts.
David Lee Roth✌

Love Sammy but I'm partial to DLR version. I think they're music was just harder then.
@@rebeccarockchik6704 Agreed.
@@rebeccarockchik6704 I agree about the music being harder. I read a comment that said something like " I hate DLR, but I hate VH without them."
Michael Anthony
