I've recently been looking into starting magic the gathering and this deck video was extremely helpful explaining how this commander works and the different combinations of cards you can use as well as the different ways to use them. I love a good card game with some strategic gambling to it.

Tnx, great deck and tutorial. Mirror Entity is also a great protection against board wipes. Make all your creatures eggs and get a new load when they die
@@alfascorpi I had it in the deck but it was a long time ago so it may be worth revisiting. I just hated flipping into it when I needed something better for the situation.
@@alfascorpi I’ve leaned into that mindset lol. We want every AP trigger to be a threat. Mirror entity can be scary and may actually be a good reset if you have a few creatures with your commander, to wipe your board and get a bunch of triggers when they die for new creatures .

Ian Malcom is a great alt art for atla palani i loved the idea when i saw it from Ixilan. If I was running him as the alt art commander i'd definitely run the card "Life finds a way" just to be on theme lol. But it also isn't a bad card for the deck you just have to keep an egg token on the field so you have something to populate each time. Im glad the video helped i appreciate your comment! Just curious, what ideas did you find that your considering using?
By far the most in depth Atla deck guide out there, thanks so much. Atla is my first deck so the explanations for each and every card are very much appreciated. Would be interested in an update if the deck has changed at all since recording, as I know a lot of useful cards such as Annie Joins Up have been released since.

And yes there’s been updates since this video. I think the moxfield link in the description should be updated. When enough cards change I’ll do another video. Annie joins up was the only card from thunder junction I used. But I added a bunch more draw cards and such.
Ah brilliant, I’ll take a look. Outside of Annie Joins up the only recent change for me has been adding Lazotep quarry from MH3 as a nice sac outlet built into a land.
@@ToxicScorp i actually missed that so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I dont like that it only taps for colorless but it is another one time sac outlet on a land which we only have 1 other (high market). I'll see if i can fit that in. We usually dont get color screwed because of our spread so it may be viable

Love the deck. Definitely gonna take some of your ideas for mine. Just want to mention that apex Altisaur fights UP TO one target creature you don’t control. So you don’t have to make it continue fighting. Once I learned that the card became so so so much better and also doesnt cause an infinite loop because you can choose to not target anything.

@@commanderinsight greater gargadon is a niche one that I didn’t know existed and am now playtesting. Claws of gix I’m trying out too. As well as summoners egg. I’ve played Atla for about a year now and I love making changes. I think you should see if irregular cohort would work in yours, if you have a repeatable sacrifice outlet it’s a two for one, and if you have mondrak or ojer tak out you get even more changelings to sacrifice. I don’t have the treasure token theme going in my list, but I see how it would be beneficial. If I find time to update my moxfield page I will and can link that.
@@NartnetOfficial irregular cohort is a great 2 for 1 and maybe even more with the token double/triple effects. The only concern would be if it replaces the summoner's egg, then we have less cards to bring out from the hand. creatures can get stuck in your hand and really clog it up. I might try and find another card slot to consider swapping for the cohort though. great suggestion
Yes someone else commented that too. I should edit that out. I can’t believe I’ve been playing that card for so long and never read the “up to” part. It makes the card a lot better too. Thanks for pointing it out
If ever you want to get the engine going faster, you can swap in some low cost Shapeshifters. This way you can play one before Atla comes out and directly sac it for an "egg" trigger once she's out. This also doesn't make it an issue when flipping an egg into a Shapeshifter as you can simply sac it as an "egg" to go get a creature. I had a version of Atla with multiple Shapeshifters and as soon as you get a trigger doubler ([Harmonic Prodigy], [Illusionist's Bracers] or the new insane [Annie Joins Up]) it goes crazy; Sac an egg, flip out a Shapeshifter and a Beater, sac the Shapeshifter and repeat.
Hey nice advice I appreciate the comment. You're right that it could potentially speed up the deck to already have an "egg" out before Atla Palani drops . In the past my experience was they didn't work faster but it might be worth looking into as I' haven't considered it in a while
@@commanderinsight I'd say that [[Irregular Cohort]] is probably the best one as it also creates a shapeshifter token on ETB which means 2 eggs triggers on 1 card or even more with trigger/token doublers. An other suggestion would be [[Aether Flash]] which deals 2 damage to any creature that ETB. Auto sac outlet for your eggs and a defense versus go wide token decks. I don't play with those, but if you do, you could always add the infinite combo with [[Mirror Entity]]

as a new player i just bought a atla deck from a friend as my first one. This video is great just to get understanding how to play the deck eventho my deck obviously dont have all the omega cards u have :D
Welcome to team eggs! I'm really glad you found the video useful. I had new players to MTG and new players to Atla Palani in mind when i made the video. And don't worry about having the best possible cards in the deck. Im sure i dont even have that. Although some are expensive now, theyve been in my collection so im putting them to good use. For you as a new player, it doesn't really matter what creatures you put in the deck you can really do whatever you want in the Naya colors which is great for variety. Have you put any thoughts into Life Finds A Way? If you have two or more eggs out with a sac outlet, you can usually put out every single creature in your deck since most/all creatures in your deck will have 4+ power
Hey great suggestion. I’ve looked at the card before and contemplated putting it in. I may give it another shot because you’re right if we can trigger AP effect while still having an egg token then we can keep making them. The problem i had was i would always sac the one and only token so I would have nothing to populate. Great suggestion
@@commanderinsight Yeah, it does require having two eggs, atleast one being a token, granted we now have the dinosaur that makes 2 eggs plus Mirror Entity, Maskwood Nexus, and other cards that give changeling, plus token doubling creatures. Plus, if you have LFaW in your hand, you could just hold onto the egg til your next turn when you can make another with Atla. Messes with flow of rhythm just a tad but I think it's worth it since it has so many states that result in all your creatures out and about

I also recently put in ancient gold dragon with the dragon tempest because it can be a 2 card win if you roll high enough. Making even 10 little fairies can all be eggs to sac with maskwood nexus too. The deck really starts to synergize well with the newer cards that released.
You’re right that’s such a good combo. I’m not there yet with my playgroup lol. We all have a gentleman’s agreement not to play drannith yet. But as soon as someone breaks that agreement I will definitely put it in

Thank you! Atla has been my favorite deck for a bit now so I’m constantly trying to make it more fun and stronger. I have since updated the deck a bit from this video. If I made a video everytime I updated it would be weekly lol. The only card I added in from outlaws was Annie joins up. I also need to look through MH3 and see what could go in there.
Yep, I am adding Annie instead of the shaman so that my eggs don’t hit it. Also, I’m going to experiment with Lurking Predators and Cream of the Crop combo. Cream also works well with the theme of the deck. I’ll probably remove Eldritch Evolution to test and something else for the cream. I’m eager to see how stacking the deck works. Plus free creatures with lurking could be insane! I can see this deck instantly being one of my favorites. Also, sylvan tutor is probably going in since it’s a worldly tutor clone and is crazy in this deck.
@@Bondman007Vids Those are some spicy combos. I've used lurking predators in the very early builds of this deck. I never used cream of the crop in here though. I've used both individually in other decks. Cream of the crop didn't really do what i wanted it to but again i didn't use the 2 together. I'd say by themselves they aren't great stand alone but yes together they can basically keep dropping huge creatures whenever an opponent casts anything. What always happened to me with lurking predators was i would keep whiffing good non-creature cards and scrying them to the bottom in an attempt to dig for a creature, then would draw the big beater creature because my opponents didn't cast anything more just by happenstance. It happened too many times for me to justify the 6 drop enchantment lol. I hope you have better luck with it. If your focus is to try and stack the deck i'd also look into congregation at dawn. Its a wordly tutor for up to 3 creatures. Could be useful with lurking predators. I currently run both annie joins up and harmonic prodigy. My reasoning for not taking out prodigy is because even though its not great to hit when you need a beater to block or attack from an egg, she will allow you to get double the beaters every time thereafter. I dont know the statistical numbers but its more likely she will hit the battlefield over annie joins up. shes cheaper to cast if they end up in your hand and can come out from egg triggers that dig through your deck which really helps the odds of seeing her. also i put maskwood nexus back in the deck (not in video) and that makes everything and egg but also makes everything a shaman/wizard so any time any creature effect triggers it does it twice. this is huge for a lot of effects where annie only lets legendary creatures trigger twice. but both of these work well for Atla either way. Its nice to have both to increase the odds of getting at least one of them out so your eggs double. It can get crazy when you have a token doubler out and a double trigger, you pay 2 mana, make 2 eggs instead of 1 and then get 4 beaters out from it. Last thing, someone else in the comments mentioned using life finds a way. I'm really looking into this again now that we have the ability to make more eggs. This card alone can bring out almost all the creatures in your deck. As long as you can keep an egg token out, you can sac another egg, bring out a beater with power 4+ then populate to make another egg and sac that egg do it again, populate and keep it going. If you wanted to make it a guarantee you an make sure every creature has 4+ power. Let me know how it goes with your brewing and testing!
Wow. Thats some great insight! Thats why I really like your video. The reasoning with the harmonic prodigy makes perfect sense. The flaw to the lurking predators/cream of the crop is the age old problem with edh, getting 2 cards out at the same time can be almost impossible at times. I think I’ll actually play it the way you currently have it made and then perhaps make tweaks as I go. I really like the thinking behind this deck though! Have you updated Moxfield with your current deck list??

@@commanderinsight I think it’s a misunderstanding between triggered and activated abilities. Some people think you can use harmonic prodigy to create two egg tokens with the commanders effect, which is improper, since creating the eggs is an activated ability. But harmonic prodigy will get you two creatures any time an egg dies, so it works out better in the end.
@@yamirlealjr yes I think that is 100% correct. You always make 1 egg and get two creature from that egg dying. Atla only has 1 triggered ability so it’s the only thing that could be effected by harmonic prodigy is the death trigger. There should be no mixed opinions about it because one side is just flat out wrong about it lol. Making the egg is an activated ability 100% and cannot be doubled by prodigy.
@@VaN-be8qm proxies reign supreme. This doesn’t take budget into consideration but you can buy proxy cards really cheap or just replace the expensive cards with their budget alternative. The deck will just be slower

best case its one of the best sac outlets in the deck, worst case its a 9/7 creature you get out for free. i did some digging to find that one lol
At 29 min in. Altisar saus it fights 'up to' one creature, so you can choose to fight 0 creatures.

Combine possibility storm with Drannith Magistrate to fully lock your opponents out!

Last thing, someone else in the comments mentioned using life finds a way. I'm really looking into this again now that we have the ability to make more eggs. This card alone can bring out almost all the creatures in your deck. As long as you can keep an egg token out, you can sac another egg, bring out a beater with power 4+ then populate to make another egg and sac that egg do it again, populate and keep it going. If you wanted to make it a guarantee you an make sure every creature has 4+ power.

The reasoning with the harmonic prodigy makes perfect sense. The flaw to the lurking predators/cream of the crop is the age old problem with edh, getting 2 cards out at the same time can be almost impossible at times.
I think I’ll actually play it the way you currently have it made and then perhaps make tweaks as I go.
I really like the thinking behind this deck though!

Potentially will make another video (not as long) with the updates. I encourage anyone who wants to make a similar build to watch the full video so when you play you can pilot the deck to an optimal level quicker. Then the fun part comes where you can start to add your own creativity and spicy combos like the lurking predators/cream of the crop strat. I’ve seen mixed opinions on whether harmonic prodigy actually gives you two triggers on the commanders effect.
Interesting, What is the case against it? Why wouldn’t it, the wording seems very straight forward
@@commanderinsight I think it’s a misunderstanding between triggered and activated abilities.
Some people think you can use harmonic prodigy to create two egg tokens with the commanders effect, which is improper, since creating the eggs is an activated ability.
But harmonic prodigy will get you two creatures any time an egg dies, so it works out better in the end.
@@yamirlealjr yes I think that is 100% correct. You always make 1 egg and get two creature from that egg dying. Atla only has 1 triggered ability so it’s the only thing that could be effected by harmonic prodigy is the death trigger. There should be no mixed opinions about it because one side is just flat out wrong about it lol. Making the egg is an activated ability 100% and cannot be doubled by prodigy.
If i would have to buy all cards it would be probably around 500 dollars 😂
@@VaN-be8qm proxies reign supreme. This doesn’t take budget into consideration but you can buy proxy cards really cheap or just replace the expensive cards with their budget alternative. The deck will just be slower
