I'm so glad to see these screen accurate figures coming out, even if they are 30 years late. I'll never know why Playmates released such off-model figures. The original Leatherhead in particular was lousy. That said, I am a big fan of the original Slash figure. The teal and pink really made it pop, and it's one of my favorites. I'm not crazy about the dark lines on the NECA figures. I know it's meant to be a cartoon look, but I think darker greens, especially on Leatherhead, would look a lot better than solid black.
Yeah, I have mixed feelings with all the heavy black linework. In some areas it's super heavy, and others it's barely there. I did actually really like the original Leatherhead figure. Totally weird they were all hunched on the ground, but I don't recall wondering why. I probably did, but mine came with two right arms, or was it left arms. Either way it was the arm with the knife strapped to it. Now that kinda bothered me, and I certainly never got a replacement. And those bushy blond eyebrows were pretty weird. Gave them character though.
Visually, one of the absolute coolest looking TMNT characters. Besides Splinter, Mondo Gecko is my most anticipated...but Leatherhead is one badass character. And for those wondering what's up with the double barreled ketchup bottle shotgun, it's actually a 'hot sauce' flame thrower weapon.
nice review . there is a clip on leatherheads belt for his foot trap . and the neck chain with collar is actually for April ! from the episode where he gets captured by ratking . it was around his neck first but its far to small for him but later in the episode he captures April and still has the collar and puts it on her. also those crawfish as a pain to get into the little loops they are meant to go tail first but you really need to heat it up before doing so , also didn't have any issue with my slash but the turtles in time version that uses the same mold has a locked leg
Jared, I had to rewatch this review. My 2-pack finally showed up along with my Beebop and Rocksteady. The Neca store is getting their (our) orders out. I got more villains to menace my Turtles. Fantastic.
Had the exact problems with slash, and the belt came out of the backpack, and it didn't have a shoulderpad, and my leatherhead tail came off, and the side holster came off. Despite all of this...I absolutely love this two pack!
Yeah, that arcade Slash is the only one I got from the line due to what it looks like. But I'm totally down with replacing it if they give them a non pixelated look. Plus it'd be cool to get more vintage figure inspired weapons.
I have the Turtles in Time Leatherhead, and his tail really throws him off balance on that figure. I think they have different shoes/feet (don't have the toon one yet), so that might be why. His legs were also incredibly stiff and had to heat them up to move them.
Yeah, they have Rocksteady's boots I believe, and a different belt. It's kinda a different enough of a figure to warrant getting...even though I don't collect the arcade stuff (except Slash).
I guess this is where the height from Casey and April went. I wonder what a Turtles in Time head put on that body and repainted into that green would look like.
Just opened this today, dec 24 2021, and leatherhead has some serious problems in terms of QC and just holding both compared to the newer stuff, its night and day. NECA has upped their game recently
Totally agree on Slash! I was a huge fan of the toy when it came out, then was totally disappointed when he showed up in the show. We need Super7 to include Slash in their Ultimates line!
Yeah, I think it's still cool...but yeah, the original toy is more badass. I haven't seen the show since I was 10 in '90, and I didn't remember at all how they looked in the show. In fact, I don't remember a whole hell of a lot about the nuances. Seems like so many around my age do. Makes me wonder if they the re-watched it as an adult. Oh boy, this would be a hard show to watch now...not like BTAS at all.
I think with the cartoon Slash, they should’ve just kept his mouth closed like in the episode of night of the rogues. By the way, how does Rocksteady have his helmet?
That's _very good_ advice, but applying oil to my figures creep me out. Even though companies apply oil like that to some figures, plus it's better than them not breaking...but still 😬. I don't even like dunking a figure in hot water. Even if it's boiled distilled water. Just don't like the idea of water getting inside of the figure. I always use a hair dryer, but sometimes it's not enough. I've actually stuck figures in the freezer before, and it's worked. You'll hear a panic attack sounding snap at times, but I've never broken one doing it.
I seriously haven't opened any of my NECA figures for the past several years. Well, with the exception of a couple Gremlins. I blow-dried the hell out of them, but some joints weren't budging. Back in the package they went, and I'm just afraid to open any of this stuff. Too goddamn terrified.
Even though Bebop and Rocksteady were _waaaay_ oversized, it makes sense so they can reuse the parts to make new legit big characters. At least the reuse isn't rampant like with Marvel Legends. Plus, if you're lucky enough to get these at Target, the value is beyond incredible. Like compare this $51.99 set to the $44.99 Dagobah Luke and Yoda set...it's so baffling. Off topic, but I don't get how that tiny Yoda is worth $25 lol.
Yay more Neca figures I'll never have 🙄😒 I don't even remember this version of Slash. I had the toy and it was way cooler looking than this one. Must have been some overbearing parents saying he was too scary looking for TV or some shit 🙄
Where did you get the rock steady helmet?
dang my joints have the paint worn off as well. One has some blue on it, other is all worn off.

@@Chalor. I remember having to replace mine because the top half of his alligator head wouldn't stay on.

Oh good god 😬

Why were some characters very different from Cartoon vs Toys ?

Hope the game slash gets a vintage toy repaint. That's what I think of first too

My one complaint is I wish the palm tree had a bowl to go in.
Was lucky enough to grab this on haulathon
One of my Leatherhead foot hinges is peach and the other is blue haha
3:02 jumpscare. I thought for sure that was a snap, and I felt the pain.
Still trying to find these! Toon Leatherhead has been a want of mine since I was a kid!
They're on neca store now for pre order. Until next Friday,, I believe

From the waist down, my arcade Leatherhead was basically a statue. Definitely some of the tightest joints I've seen on a Neca figure.

Damn I forgot how lame Slash's design was in the cartoon. One of the rare cases where the Playmates toy looked way better than the show.

Much prefer tight joints than having them loose
When does April go up??
Toy Bro, what you need my friend is some Traxxas silicone shock oil. Heat joints then a drop of oil, it is a game changer.

Snagged mine the other day. Still need to open.

Yeah, I don't move them without a hair dryer.......Come on Neca ! tight joints are nice but I don't want to break my figure by moving!
Great video toybro!

These look like they are terrible build quality ... putting me of NECA
