    One of my favorite plugins, as someone who is interested in history, super handy to add locations and view the notes on a map.

      have you been able to configure other map sources such as a historic map instead of the default openstreet map? in theory the plugin allows you to set a different map source, though I haven't yet played with that feature until now.

      I'm using the default map. So no.

    Thank you very much for spotlighting this app, 🎉🎉❤ it's a great add-on for my needs. I'm currently reading through it to figure out the best way to use it for my needs. I actually need to add 2 locations for the majority of my notes.

    Nice! I installed already more than 40 Plugins, but I was still missing this one. Will give it a try. One question: it seems that loading Obsidian became slower with installing so many plugins. Still everything works quite nice. How many plugins as a limit would you recommend? Does it also depend on the plugin? There should be a difference between installing for example the Excalidraw Plugin or a single command plugin like maximize pane. Anyway, I am really hot to learn more from you about Obsidian and the organization of the vault. Really can't await it.

      The issue is not with how many plugins you have, but how well those plugins are written, and what those do. Plugins that process all the notes in your vault on an on-going bases (breadcrumbs, dataview, mapview, etc.) will have a higher likelihood of slowing you down, compared to plugins like maximize pane.
      I have 21 plugins enabled currently:
      table-editor-obsidian
      obsidian-annotator
      obsidian-gtd-plugin
      calendar
      templater-obsidian
      obsidian-kanban
      obsidian-map-view
      nldates-obsidian
      obsidian-jump-to-date-plugin
      obsidian-wordnet-plugin
      darlal-switcher-plus
      quickadd
      recent-files-obsidian
      dataview
      obsidian-hotkeys-for-templates
      hotkey-helper
      obsidian42-brat
      obsidian-excalidraw-plugin
      obsidian-charts
      breadcrumbs
      obsidian-advanced-slides

    Thank you very much for your plugin and its constant support.
    When i use the command: Create a new drawing - ... - and embed into active document - an excalidraw file is created with the type header: Note header + YYYY-MM-DD HH.mm.ss
    Question:
    How to make the header of a new inserted Excalidraw file in the format: YYYY-MM-DD HH.mm.ss?
    Why I need this:
    When I take notes of some material (e.g. TH-cam videos) - I take a lot of screenshots, insert them in a note through Excalidraw, and highlight important points, but:
    When I search for this note, I find a lot of unnecessary files and it degrades the workflow.
    Help please!
    You could upload a short video to TH-cam or create a new main.js file and upload it to one of your resources so I can download it.

      I can add a setting for this. May I ask you to create a feature request on GitHub here: github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/issues

  • @tajsec

    I had a question when I want to edit excalidraw file after clicking on "open as markdown", the file becomes smaller and embed inside markdown so I can't edit it, is there a way to edit excalidraw in markdown like we did in preview versions? thankss

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Markdown editing of Excalidraw files work as they did before, nothing changed with that. Maybe you are viewing the markdown file in "Obsidian reading mode" instead of "Obsidian editing mode"?
      If this does not solve your issue, can I ask you to open an issue for this on GitHub github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/issues? We can exchange screenshots there and have a more in-depth conversation.

    Thanks for making me discover this plugin ! However, I have the following issue : after copy-pasting an address from google maps into Obsidian, the link in Obsidian leads to an point on the map which is a few blocks off the right (original) address in Google Maps... Maybe it has something to do with the source type ? I didn't find where I could get help from the developer, and I'm not familiar at all with GitHub things.. Could someone help me ?🤨

    Great video! I have a question: what was the reason to move from The Brain to Obsidian?

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The key reason is extensibility. TheBrain is great, but it is a closed proprietary system. There are no plugins. You are not able to do more with your data, only what TheBrain developer team creates. Their mobile app has developed over the years, but very slowly. I constantly ran into limitations in how I was able to integrate TheBrain with my PKM workflow - especially how I could attach, edit, reuse drawings. I developed some plugins of my own, but when I asked for support on TheBrain forum the feedback from devs was - not supported, "don't go there"... I could hack my way through, but it was a constant uphill battle.
      Obisidian in contrast is designed to work with plugins, and has a developer team who actively supports and encourages plugin development. Also the data format of Obsidian (markdown files sitting on your local harddrive) is much more transparent and future proof.

    It looks quite elaborate and time-expensive. If I understood correctly, we have to create a new note and a new tag for each location? Doesn't this process add an insane amount of notes of tags that could slow down Obsidian or get in the way when we're searching for a note/tag?
    Great video anyways!

    • @VisualPKM
      @VisualPKM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't want to tag all the locations in the world - google map does that for me. All I want is to tag locations that are important to me for some reason. And I am not particularly concerned about Obsidian slowing down, so far performance has not been an issue at all.
      On the subject of creating pages:
      You do not need to create a page for all the locations. See the example at 6:10 where I show an example with Zion national park. You can add multiple location tags in a single document using the following format: [name](geo:Lat,Lon). If you add a tag to this line, then that tag will be used for displaying the icon on the pin. i.e.
      [Zion](geo:37.2501554,-112.9586237) #location/national-park
      the added benefit of geo links, is that on your phone, when you click the link, the map app will open up automatically.

    • @OttoVanluchene
      @OttoVanluchene 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add location as frontmatter to any note. Or Multiple inline geo coord. Also no need for Google maps. Is has a Search function to find the coordinates. Or you can create a note from the map itself.
