Hey thanks for the videos! I followed exactly what you did and turned my 18 Indian river canke into a 15 square end. I added a pcv extension to the trolling motor handle so I could sit further up and that helped tremendously!
Very neat job. Squared off canoes made specifically for mounting a motor generally cary the fullness of the hull from about midship back for the buoyancy needed, they retain most of their beam width right through to the transom for greater displacement. However, rather than build a new one, use what you've got.....👍 Lowering that battery down into the hull would do wonders for stability, but with the outriggers, probably not important. Nice job.
Put your battery right on the bottom of the canoe. It will help with stability and you might not even need the outriggers. It helps to sit right on the bottom as well, but you'd need to do something about getting the tiller down lower for steering.
Thanks, I'm sure all that you said is true. Since I made that video I shortened the shaft on the trolling motor. I made a wooden grate to stand on the bottom and cast a fishing line. Sometimes I use a seat for the middle of the canoe that lets me sit lower. I use my kayak paddles without the motor or pontoons and it works good.
Great job Les! I built a similar set up with an electric trolling motor on a sea kayak that I also added a pair of pontoons I made I used aluminum tubing to make the frame to hold a small transom on the rear of the sea kayak and to hold the two pontoons. I added a 166 watt solar panel to the frame. You should add a solar panel too. It will really extend your range and keep your battery charged. My friend has room for 2 panels on his canoe for 300 watts of power. I sure enjoyed your first part too. You did a fantastic job making you canoe a square stern.
I personally don't think it would be a good idea myself. I think it would be too heavy for one thing and the back wash might swamp the canoe if you have to stop quickly. There are no chines on the canoe to divert the water either. You would have to put a lot of weight up front to balance out the canoe. So I don't think I would do it on my canoe.
Looks good. But when the motor is on the side of the boat you can face forward and use the control arm.. Don’t think you need that outrigger it looks pretty stable the way it is. I would keep the boat lighter.

Keep the weights such as yourself and the marine battery as close to the bottom as possible i.e. sit on a cushion right on the bottom of the canoe.
