I had my BMW dealer do mine, they did so gladly after warning me it would void the warranty (at the time it was a new car) I can reliably report none of its subsequent warranty claims and fiscal outlays were caused by having a dipstick....

It's actual hands-on automotive content not advertising the newest fad. Skill at work, a discernible skill with results vs running a clickbait marketing machine for money and views. I like it, I wish more would stay like this or go back to this type of content.
Seriously. I'd love if there were similar artisan TH-camrs working on Audis, Mercedes, or Porsches with half the level of detail or humor.

His current project is a 1976 Mazda RX-5 Cosmo which is being given an impressive overhaul with some fantastic DIY ranging from a Megasquirt MS3-Pro install, fabricating circuit boards for all sorts of sorcery, all the way up to a Jedi-inspired power lock system and E90 BMW 3-series seats. And plenty of "that's what she said" moments.

the fact tho that it cut in so subtly so sweetly he didnt even kno and felt comfy and confident af just cruising thru that turn at 260..

Congratulations on being one of a handful of people on the planet known to have successfully serviced the S85 V10 rod bearings. Too often we hear about these engines self destructing due to this known flaw in the S85's. Even the Car Ninja, Jonny, a very skilled BMW specialist wasn't able to successfully repair JRGO's S85-powered M6. Huge props to getting this car back on the road. I still long for more E32 content, or even some work on the E21 3 series.
Yeah. Jonhny is great but still things didn't went his way. This channel is like no other and having the autoban is just a german thing.
How difficult was it to follow instructions?
It’s a slightly different situation with JR’s M6. That one already had bearing failure, so surfaces were probably already damaged. This one was done preventatively so presumably the crank and rods were still in good shape.
You don’t know what you are talking about... There are quite a few shops that can easily do the rod bearings on the e85 just as long as it hasn't slipped a bearing yet because the owner waited to long to service it
@@chriskeiser5809 in that video they said the crank wasn't damaged. the reason they scrapped the car was because of the vanos pump he said. he also suspected the cam bearings being eaten by all the metal floating around in the engine.
Oh the sound of that sweet V10 piercing the German countryside air. A few hundred years ago the M5 would’ve looked and sounded so futuristic and eerie. Passing by at 300+ kmh would make anyone believe it was something from a different universe. The sound we have grown to love would spook anyone of that era just because of the sheer volume. What a time to be alive.

Sreten, you have a lot to answer for. After a lifetime running Jaguars, and having watched all of your videos, I have today bought my first BMW. You wouldn't like it because it's got a tractor engine (535D) but I'm blown away by it. Thank you so much for your channel. It is high quality content delivered in an engaging style. Long may you, and it, prosper.
I'm on my second 535d after the first was rear-ended by an idiot in a rental van... It really is an awesome machine and although it doesn't rev to 8000 RPM and sound like the E60 M5, it has its own, purposeful soundtrack which I really like. I'm pretty sure any time I lose while driving against an M5 I would make up by making fewer refuelling stops! 😂

I love the test drives. Not so much as a scrap of paper. The towns and the Autobahn are spotless. In the US you see trash everywhere.
I remember seeing this on craigslist and thinking even at $5000, I pity the person that buys this car. So great to see it back on the road in it's full glory.

The turn signal stock is one of the annoying things in an E60/E61. When I drive my E61, I miss the normal "clicking" stock.

Rock solid at 300kph and you could see you had total confidence on the slight indulations of the surface. Not many people have driven at that kind of speed and when you have, it feels special.

30:50 I've got an e39 525tds and it has an original sticker in the manual gearbox that says "ATF only", so its not a weird thing!

Just 2 cents: wind noise at the sunroof was always an issue with my E39 M5 until I decided to change the otherwise perfect looking seals (with flock-finished) and do the TIS alignment procedure (~1mm down at the front, ~2mm up at the back from neutral). After that, literally zero noise from the top - might help with reducing yours.

Love it. Following your threads on M5board too. I’m at 10 years and 174,xxx miles of daily driving and track days on my 6 speed e60m5. One of my best mods for mine was a 3.91 and a custom diff upgrade.
Such a wonderful car. Perfect German engineer.

Job well done! There were so many details to sort out and you took care of them predictably well. We are very lucky to have the Autobahn system here. I recently drove my MB C300T 1 hour straight at speeds over 200 km/hr between Hanover and Münster (early morning, no traffic). There are few, if any other places on earth that you can do that. Thanks for sharing.

Noisy engine at idle, glitter in the oil after rod bearing change, clunky wind noise sunroof- all completely normal. Gotta love an E60 M5 👍

That V10 engine block does have a casting for oil dip stick, you just have to find it and install the dip stick
I had this done about 3 weeks after buying mine, after reading how unreliable the idrive readout was,and discovering for myself the comments are true, it voided my warranty according to the supplying dealer thankfully my local dealer who still services it to this day thought it a wise mod even if they wouldn't officially advise it being done, yet still honoured the warranty.
It shouldn't void your warranty since you are not modifying the engine, just adding an accessory. Did you keep your iDrive oil level sensor as well
@@NICK-uy3nl I'd concur, but in my experience, BMW - and other "premium" marques are rather good at getting out of warranty claims, especially if you have "modified" the car, never mind the obvious fact it should have been there from the start... :D

@@naifali5141 I think it was probably a combination of the acceleration + monstrous torque from that amazing V10 and hitting the bumps on the autobahn just right to where there was a slight slip in traction. No problem for German engineering though. 😎

Where I live, 140kph is good for arrest, immediate license suspension and vehicle impoundment. No worries about noisy sunroofs here.

One of my favorite cars of all time. I came close to buying one, but needed an AWD car for the area in which I live. My house sits on a large hill/mountain that is locally notorious. I had a 2 year old MB that I would have traded on the Bimmer. I still wonder if I did the right thing. What great cars!

If you just had a video with that exterior camera driving through the country with the sound of that engine/exhaust, it would be an instant hit.

If you pretty much check and overhaul anything in your cars take the time to check sunroof seals and most importantly, the sunroof alignment. They do get out of spec with time and use and most often that not they're the big reason for wind noise. BMW tis should have the proper values, they're usually staggered, lower on the front, higher on the back. One mm over or under the roof line sometimes makes a very noticeable difference! Also, clean the drains preventably, before they clog and then there's a load more work unclogging and drying interiors. More, if BMW doesn't have something similar, I've found VW krytox paste (or a suitable off brand krytox which I haven't been able to source around here) is one of the most intensive sunroof seals hydrant.
Not only entertaining and informative, but also makes me want to get out into the garage and do a better job of taking care of my cars. Keep it up!
