Having just seen "Beaches" for the umpteenth time, I believe from every aspect, Mayim's performance is the best "child" performance ever on the big screen. Nuanced and simply wonderful. A gem that never gets stale.
guess you've never seen tatum o'neil in paper moon or jodie foster in taxi driver. or Ricky Schroeder in The Champ. Those are performances. Mayim was great, and still is.
I like how she takes you through the steps of the movie and looking fondly on it. She looks happy to discuss it and doesn’t look like she’s being forced to do it.
One thing about Mayim is that she really is so gracious and appreciative of her acting roots. I love seeing that as much as I’ve loved following her career.
I saw Beaches in the theater when it came out. Mayim Bialik was an absolute stand-out, and her character was the most interesting and fun to watch in the entire movie.
Mayim has a natural beauty about her that no one ever talks about. She has a real "character" face, but there is a beauty to it as well. She has wonderful coloring.
This is what happens when parents stop looking at their celebrity kids as cash cows and actually raise them with love, wisdom and being adequately strict. They also have to guide their path and make drastic decisions if the industry is starting to swallow them whole.
When "Beaches" first came out, it was like they made a movie from mine and my best friends lives. We met very young (almost 40 years ago), and we had complete opposite personalities. Our story is way too long to type out. She ended up moving 1500 miles away. But, we are still the best of friends. Every time we visit each other, we grab our popcorn, and we sit down and watch "Beaches." We've even watched it over the phone a few times when it was playing on TV. We laugh, we cry, and we start comparing every scene to our friendship and just crack up. This movie will always mean more to the both of us than anything else we've ever held onto for almost 40 years. 💛💛
My best friend from childhood, starting 56 years ago, is still one of my best friends. We weren’t alike at all. Yet, in all these years, we’ve never had one fight or even a disagreement. We have always just accepted each other for who we are. Isn’t it funny, that as we get older, we resort to the ‘birds of a feather’ mentality when choosing friends? When in reality, we’d be much more well-rounded if we chose friends with different feathers, or fur, or scales, or skin.
"That's no woman, that's my mother.". Love that line. Love this movie... beautfiul story of friendship. Love Mayim. Such an intelligent and articulate woman. We need more role models like this for the younger generation.
I LOVED this interview.....but then, I Love Mayim!! Glad to hear she had parents who took such great care with her as a newly famous child-star. I believe THAT made all the difference in how she turned out...kind, level-headed,extremely intelligent and self-assure. ❤️ ☮️ 🌸
So nice to hear that it wasn’t a horrible experience for her. So many times, you’d love love, love a movie, and then you hear all this terrible stuff and it ruins it for you.
I remember when the series "Blossom" started saying "hey! Thats the girl from Beaches". And then when Mayim started on "The Big Bang Theory", I was like oh my gosh, I love her! I tried to explain to my kids, they were like, "who?". But Beaches is one of my favorite movies, & Ive enjoyed watching your career, Ms Bialik.
The first time I saw Beaches was before I had even heard of Mayim, and I was amazed at what a plausible young Bette Midler she was able to portray. "In my opinionation", Mayim stole the show and was the best part of the whole movie. She is a show business rarity - a truly intelligent, articulate actor.
To this day I am mystified as to why she was not nominated for an Oscar. She was brilliant, especially with the challenge of capturing what a little Bette would be like.
I watched beaches when I was a young dad with my daughter when she was about 7. It was special.......... wonderful movie......great memory..... my thanks for everyone involved in the movie it was superb
They could not have possibly found a better little girl to play the young C.C. Bloom. I was even younger than Mayim when the film came out (I tagged along with my aunt to the cinema). Even then I was a Bette Midler fan and I loved Mayim as her younger doppelganger. As I've grown over the years, the film has been a constant in my life; I'm very much a C.C. and one of my dearest friends identifies with Hillary. "Beaches" is our movie. Oh! And we're both drag queens. Ha! We don't see each other often, but I know we'll always have this movie to remind us of each other.
The movie Beaches reminds me of my best friend who passed away 15 years into our friendship, she was diagnosed with an illness that finally took her life. She fought so hard to life, we met in high school on a camping week and we instantly became best of friends. So beaches always reminds me of her and I also played the song for my wedding. The wing beneath my wings was played for her. Thank you so much for making it.
I saw Beaches shortly after it was released and was really amazed at how like Midler this girl was - not just in looks but in 'personality' as well. And I loved her performance, she really stood out. I was happy to hear that she landed a series after that, although I never saw it (I think it was a kid's show). I understand she's on a sit-com now too (or was?), so glad she's had a successful career!
Beaches is one of my all time favorite movies ever! Mayim was just over the top fabulous ! I love her. I really enjoyed this interview....thanks for posting it. ❤️
What a fantastically talented and smart person! Geeze, I wish there were more like her walking the earth. I walked across the road to a movie theater in North Columbus with the intention of seeing "Rain Man." It was sold out, so I "settled" for "Beaches." I think everyone enjoyed "Rain Man," but I think I won...
She was perfectly cast in this movie. Although brief in appearance she's so memorable. This movie absolutely crushes me EVERY time I see it..in fact sometimes I can't watch it knowing how it ends.

I went to see this with an older lady friend thst i had met after i git out of the airforce, it was her favorite movie and mine as well, a few years later she sadly passed away. There was me and 2 other girls who I been friends with since I was about 12. The 3 of us were always together, in each other's wedding, had babies around the same time, buried parents. Well on 9/13/2019 our friend Cathy passed away. We knew she was dying. We went to the beach and sat on the sand, walked a little, had coffee at sunrise looking out at the ocean. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 BEACHES! such nostalgia...huge part of my childhood growing up... the amount of crying I would do watching this...like everyone! Gary Marshall really did this movie WELL!
MAYIM BIALIK was so perfect for that part. The scion of the Yenta Stage Mother! I actually wondered, was she Bette Midlers neice or something. It was a great movie! Mayim grew up t be a real human being! her parents surely are proud.

Mayim sounds like a very down to earth person and its great that her parents didn't push her into acting and made sure she stayed grounded. She is awesome on Big Bang Theory!!
Beaches was my all time favorite movie ever. I could watch it over and over throughout the years and it never gets old. I had no clue that she also played blossom.
Mind blowing how much you have done. I remember Blossom, and I watch big bang every day. I think I need to go watch Beaches! What an incredible woman you are❤

How funny that both the child Actors from Beaches are both Doctors. (Mayim has a doctorate and the young Hilary actor Marcie Leeds is now a trained and practising medical doctor.)
Because Barbara Hershey's character bit the dust at the end...I get it. SORRY FOR SPOILERS, BEACHES IS 100 YEARS OLD!!!!!!! Barbara Hershey's character IS NOT, but the movie is!

Ricky Schroeder The Champ
It's truly a great performance, but have you seen Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver and Natalie Portman in Léon: The Professional? Both astonishing.
