@@phatminhphan4121 You really think that doctor was innocent? Don't make me laugh. God knows how many people he had killed for the cure, moreover that doc was in the Firefly. The firefly bombed army posts and killed civilians
@@CaptainPikeachu Buddy. Did you play the first game? Like, legitimately. Every gameplay section in which you have to kill or avoid humans, the humans give you no choice. And when it comes to the fireflies, they knocked him out, were going to kill Ellie within a day of receiving her, and were going to force him out of their base with no weapons or supplies, not his own nor the weapons he was promised as payment for escorting Ellie across the entire country. He isn't a bully, he's a survivor. Abby is the murdering bully content and joyful at the prospect of killing a pregnant woman in revenge.
Not just that, if I remember correctly, he holds a knife to confront someone holding a gun. Like don't be an idiot, step aside and let the man with the gun pass. He forced Joel's hand
The surgeon being Abby's dad should've been cut out of the game entirely. It would've been better if Marlene was her adoptive mother. Since we know her from her brief appearances in the first game, it would have been a good opportunity to learn more about her. In the first game she said to Joel "whatever it is you think you're going through right now is nothing to what I have been through." We could not empathize with her back then because we didn't know WHAT she had been through. This game could have shown HER experiences through the perspective of Abby (sometimes young Ellie) and shape her character to be someone who we wouldn't have wanted to kill had we known more about her. The scene where she argues with the surgeon is a good example of one such experience since we find out that she wasn't initially okay with killing Ellie. More moments like that would have made us feel sorry for Marlene. Plus, Abby's motive for revenge would've been a LOT more understandable since both she and the player knows what Marlene has been through (though let's face it, we will always hate her for killing Joel). It also would've made sense why Abby didn't kill Ellie because she has heard about her through Marlene. Abby would've known that Marlene was taking care of Ellie and would've acknowledged the fact that they could've been like sisters if things were different. It would have made for a twisting realization.
This is like playing as the daughter of a random pedestrian you hit with your car in GTA. Whole backstory and everything and they suck you out of the story to explain why they're an antagonist
@@jameslanier2510 I hate it when characters have so much depth, they contradict themselves with depth-ception Let's not forget Abby's dad was literally a different race and called "Bruce" in the game files of the first game. And the dude threatened a one-man army with a scalpel without giving him a choice. One thing is pre-planning a good story within a story, another is shoe-horning a fan fiction to make something completely new. Joel only ever killed in self-defence or to save his loved ones. Slowly killing him for revenge and doing it in front of his daughter-figure is a psychopath move. And we played as said psycho only to have her contradict herself and help a faction of cultists that killed hundreds of her own comrades only because they saved her once. This man Joel literally saved her like 4 times in a row and he got a golf club to the head. This is some last jedi level-writing. Forget continuing the initial plot of finding a cure. I won't be surprised if we play as the unborn baby that didn't die and wants revenge in the sequel.
@@vaalejo1sarchive494 That's straight up not true. Game files are irrelevant, and the doctor was white in the first game. But what exactly are you trying to argue here? That Abby was wrong for killing Joel? Yeah, she was. The game doesn't disagree. Abby doesn't help the Seraphites. She helps Lev and Yara, two exiles from that faction. And she doesn't do it because they saved her. She does it because she's striving to find some kind of redemption after feeling guilty over what she did to Joel. Also, Lev and Yara didn't kill her dad, so you comparing them to Joel doesn't make any sense. Uh the first game's plot was about finding a cure. Why would you want them to do that again? Are you upset that you didn't just get the first game again?
@@jameslanier2510 Since that person didnt wanna answer you which by the way I cant blame him/her for, its tiring having to explain the same stuff over and over again. But anyways first of all it is never shown that Abby feels any sort of guilt of what she did to Joel '' bad writing ''. The first game wasn't just about a cure and if thats as far you can see then I get why youre confused. The first game at its core was about a broken man coming to terms with his daughters death and essentially '' gaining'' a new one to make him feel human again. I do feel sorry for you if all you could see in tlou 1 was the end of the road and not the middle, cause the middle was what mattered and the middle was what people wanted to be even further built on in part 2 '' the middle being the relationship of Joel and Ellie''. @@snefff6560 Yes, it is. She literally says to Lev that the reason she's helping is "guilt" and a need to "lighten the load." And yes, the first game was about finding a cure. How in the world did you ever come to the conclusion that I mistook the plot of TLOU1 for the story based on what I said? I chose my words specifically. You understand the difference between plot and story, right? Also, Part 2 DID build on that further. And the cure plot is over. Joel made sure of that. Why would they continue it in Part 2? You simply cannot introduce new characters and give them great importance while killing off LOVED characters. Abby killed Joel because of the massacre he did inside the Firefly hospital - including Abby's father - just to save his daughter-figure and ruined the development of the cure.
Sasuke Uchiha how was he biased. If people were biased the people hating the game are. Like Jesus just cuz Joel dies it’s automatically an awful game. No one actually payed attention to the good parts to an actually ok story
They did this in the wrong order. They should have made us attached to Abby first and make her at the same time attached to Joel and Ellie (as messed up as it is, because life is as messed up) and save the identity of the person Abby is looking for to avenge his dad a secret until the very end, and then make us choose...
Forreal. The story could have worked if they executed it a good bit differently. Not to mention that because of how they portrayed it, it's like they want us to sympathize for someone who just fucking brutally murdered the protagonist of the previous game....and at one point, Abby LEGIT BLOODY SAYS "GOOD" WHEN TOLD THAT SOMEONE SHE'S ABOUT TO KILL IS PREGNANT. They could have written the story different to make her more morally gray, but no, that is an overtly EVIL action and there is absolutely no excuse for it. There is being a flawed human being, then there's taking pleasure in killing an expecting woman. Abby COULD have worked, but Naughty Dog screwed it up.
Yeah that would’ve been really cool. The second game could’ve been Abby trying to figure out the identity of the man who killed her father, dropping subtle hints that it was Joel until the end when we are faced to kill this man we loved in the first game for the sake of this girl we’ve come to love in this theoretical version of the second game. BUT… I honestly still think they did it well in this game. The first part made us hate Abby and made the deaths of her friends satisfying, until we see her side and start to understand why she did what she did, why her group felt the way they felt. Throughout the first part of the game we can’t fathom why anyone would be so ruthless toward Joel, and after seeing what Abby and her friends went through, and considering the fact that Ellie and her group fell into the same fel pool of vengeance she fell into, you could start to at least understand why things transpired the way they did. The key takeaway is that no matter what, Abby had as much a right to hate Joel as Ellie did to hate Abby.
Here’s what I would have done after Joel sings to Ellie and we get the tittle card we play as Abby right away with her looking for her dad. What this dose is introduce a new character that we know nothing about yet. You see when we played as Ellie we learned about Abby this way we know nothing. We play her part all the way up to the point she breaks into Ellie’s hideout and kills Jesse. That death of Jesse is a shock because we don’t know who the hell he is yet. After that we then go back to Ellie’s story with Jesse knocking at her door. Now we play as Ellie all the way up to the Abby encounter. What this dose is makes the player not know any side of the story because playing as Abby first we don’t know Ellie’s going to kill all her people so it’s new for the player when we get too play Ellie. When we play Abby second we already know all her people will die and it’s kinda boring. After the encounter it switches back to Abby and makes us fight Ellie during the fight Abby stops only because of Lev this has more meaning now because we played Abby first and actually probably cared for her character because we didn’t have the I hate her because she killed Joel. After this encounter Ellie still wants to track Abby down with Dina being against it we still don’t know why because the scene with Joel hasn’t been shown yet we just know he died somehow. Plus by not showing Joel’s death yet the flashback scenes of Ellie and Joel have better meaning leading us on too think he probably died by Abby but we’re still not 100% sure. We get to the final fight and during the fight we get flashbacks of Joel getting his head bashed in by Abby and right when Ellie’s about to kill Abby we learn why Ellie’s on this revenge path and she stops only because she knows she’s already lost everything both have. Doing the game this way would be so much better and more people would probably like Abby

Except she’s not the antagonist. That’s literally the whole point. Joel, Ellie, and Abby are all each other’s antagonists. Joel killed Abby’s dad, Abby killed Ellie’s father figure, and Ellie killed Abby’s closest friend and lover. They are all equally as bad. I guess ND’s mistake was that they expected the players to have enough common sense and maturity to see two sides of one story.
@@datboidiego9164 She killed Joel out of revenge even though he saved her life. Put her friends in danger and risked them getting punished by Isaac for herself. @@datboidiego9164 and it isn't that players who still hate Abby are immature or don't have common sense. The point of Seeing both sides of the coin is obvious. But they did not go through a great adventure and form years of attachment to Abby's character like they did with Joel and Ellie. It's completely understandable. Making players try to feel sorry for the other side and try to lecture you on why there are two sides is what is kinda insulting. Learning that her dad was that Doc is enough to think, "ah, I see why she wanted revenge. He killed her father. Who wouldn't want revenge? " so it was pretty unnecessary.
Then that wouldnt have provided a consistent narrative, leaving the game with broken cannon/non cannon story. Unless you play as either one and Ellie still loses to Abby in the fight, thus continuing the story.
I had a hard time pressing the button prompts to fight Ellie, I know she killed abbys friends, but she still had her reasons yet that’s not how this story’s plays like, it’s kill or be killed
There should've been a normal ending when dying as Abby there, leaving the rest as additional content and secret ending if player manages to do the fight on first try.
let's spend 2 hours getting medicine for this new character, then kill off the new character in the next scene lol that will get the players immersed af

Rogue4life618 _ yes but those are no names and NPC characters. But knowing naughty dog, they’ll make there great great great grandchildren seek revenge
But doesn't that same logic applies to what Ellie did to Owen. Take a minute and think, If Ellie dint kill Owen and Mel, then Abby doesn't track down Ellie and Jesse doesn't get shot. It cause and effect and a vicious cycle. That's why the characters are obvious parallels to each other, Ellie/Abby, Joel/Jerry, Dina/Owen Mel/Jesse
r/wooosh thts true they are jus NPC characters but if we are going deep into the “game world” people are people doesn’t justify our actions jus cause we don’t kno them we can’t just defend cruel shit of the people we only know
Thing is, imagine for a second if they introduced Abby through this flashback around the beginning of the game, after setting the story and characters of Joel, Ellie and the rest. You play through only to realise it’s the surgeon’s daughter. The rest of the game would’ve been felt very differently!
Yeah, i always say that Joel's death should be at half of the story, something like that. That is to have some time to know Abby and her motivations, and then as a player, struggle to decide who is right in this vengance story. In the normal story we already hate Abby and her backstory is irrelevant
That would ruin the story. The whole point is to understand her perspective, After the fact. Luckily naughty dog cares more about the story rather than pleasing the ignorant and stubborn fanbase
Yep I would feel bad if she got hate because of Abby and had to shut her Instagram down like other actors who did because of their characters getting hate
Bruh what I hate about 'that scene' is Joel literally walks into the middle of the room and fully ignored the fact that Abby was holding A FUCKING SHOTGUN
Let Naughty Dog, and all game developers take this as a lesson: when your players are vocally lamenting having to play as a character, and will sometimes actively seek the character's death (despite having to start over), a mistake may have been somewhere.
I had the EXACT same reaction as Felix. How TF did Naughty Dog think this was tucking okay!? I just paused and had to go for a smoke and Google how many other people were disgusted about this segment.
This was all by design - how hard Joel's death hit, or how pissed off people would be when they are forced to play as Abby, since her motivations haven't been explained yet, and we've only seen her kill Joel and Jesse so far. ND wants you to feel EmOtIoNs nowadays, they will make you kill a dog in an unskippable QTE, and then try to make you feel bad by gating your progress until you play fetch with it. They will pause everything and make you initiate Nora's torture, so they can make you feel bad later. So if players are pissed off, ND did a good job, cause they worked hard to make them feel that way. Whether it was a good idea to antagonize your fan base, and whether they did enough to make players invested in Abby by the end, is another thing entirely. I personally think they failed there (and they managed to make Ellie unlikable in the process, too). The fact that Abby is the star of a 10hr-long side story, that has almost no bearing on the plot, that fails to develop the supporting cast in any meaningful way, and that completely stops the story in its tracks in favor of doing menial tasks like going on patrol, and looking for medical supplies, didn't help things, either. Another of ND's storytelling failures is that pretty much every streamer sees through what they're doing, and what's coming next, immediately, and says something along the lines of 'I don't want to play as Abby now, I don't care about her motivations, her backstory, or what made her so pissed off at Joel'.
@@piobu5357 then I guess you should be happy, because reactionaries get to dictate art now. Goodbye risks, goodbye artistic vision, hello common denominator pandering and shallow spectacle!

The problem is that this happens after she killed Joel. If the backstory and getting to know Abby would’ve occurred before she killed Joel, people wouldn’t have problems with Abby. When it gets to Joel’s scene, we already know the gist of what’s going on and Abby can tell Joel why she’s doing what she’s doing and Joel could apologize to Abby but say he doesn’t regret what he did because his “kid” will always come first and that her dad would have done the same if he was in Joel’s situation, causing Abby to kill him. It could be more complex than that but that could’ve made people hate it less.
I'm not saying Abby wouldn't kill Joel anyway, but I think she would have spared him the torture if Joel wasn't too defiant (almost bluffing) when she asked: "who he think she is".
It's absolutely horrible pacing. The first half of the game builds towards this confrontation between Ellie and Abby then immediately switches to Abby's perspective once we get there. It's like having a bucket of cold water thrown in your face. Then we have to play another eight hours just to finally see the full confrontation and the whole impact is diminished. Druckmann was trying too hard to pull off some non-linear Quentin Tarantino shit and failed spectacularly.

@@CaptainPikeachu It's funny how you "call out" other people for ignoring the entire context of Part 2 when people detest Abby and claim they just hate her because they want to when you've consistently ignored the first game's context. The fireflies were a paramilitary terrorist group that gave the go ahead to a doctor that couldn't have possibly completed his post graduate in medical school given the game's time-line and his age to kill Ellie for a cure. He was going to kill the only girl he had ever seen completely immune to the virus with fungal growths on her brain he wanted to harvest to make a vaccine, which to this day to and for our fully functioning international medical community, is impossible. Let alone for a handful of surgeons (who can't even do what he can, namely, the magic vaccine making process) in the apocalypse, themselves. Let alone the vaccine production process, supplies like needles and syringes needed, and safe transport to survivors when it has been shown throughout the game the fireflies failed to meet Joel at their rendezvous points time and time again. Not to mention a vaccine against the infection won't do much at all since the warring human factions and zombies capable of tearing people apart are the more dangerous threat given gas masks to block spores are plentiful. Joel not only stumbles upon a researcher who was dumb enough to get infected by the monkeys he was studying, then released; he also finds the surgeon's notes, which talk of previous failed attempts from experiments on infected to human subjects alike. Couple that with the fact that when the fireflies found him trying to resuscitate Ellie from drowning and decided to knock him unconscious, decided to kill Ellie within a day of receiving her after doing no more tests than an X-Ray when non lethal brain biopsies already exist, and the fact they were going to force Joel out without his supplies and weapons nor the weapon he was owed for completion the delivery of Ellie to them, is it any wonder, ANY wonder at all that he marched right back around to save her life? The next time terrorists come to take your child and claim that if they die, everyone on earth can be cured of cancer, you better not stop them from killing your loved one, because saving their life would be selfish. @@lenalouwho4100 No, it really wouldn't have. The fireflies had been shown to be inept time and time again, failing to meet Joel as he traveled his way to rendezvous points and then bases which they lost. One researcher in their lost university base was dumb enough to get himself infected by infected monkeys he freed. And he isn't the only medical researcher who was inept. Not only is it currently impossible for our fully functioning international medical community to vaccinate against fungal infections, there are ways to extract brain matter in a non-lethal manner, namely brain biopsies. Jerry, Abby's father, couldn't have possibly completed his post graduate medical education before the outbreak occurred, unless he was a child progidy, and a genius amongst prodigies at that. So we're to believe a man who is somehow the universe's greatest virologist, surgeon, fungal researcher, neurologist, and medical practitioner in general can carve out a young girl's brain and create a vaccine? The procedure of which would be lethal despite the existence of brain biopsies? No. I don't think so. I'm almost certain the point was to show that sometimes, people latch onto the impossible in desperate times. Tess did, as it was her dying wish for Joel to go through with Ellie's delivery to the fireflies. Marlene did, since the remaining U.S. military force was set to destroy them once and for all. And Ellie was hopeful that the creation of a vaccine from her would give the deaths of her loved ones meaning. But for Joel? Ellie was his meaning. Securing Ellie's happiness and well-being was what made life worth living again.

Then imagine cutting to Nathan, who kills anyone who gets in his way between him and Rafe in brutal fashion, especially to dogs and pregnant women for the game to “morally” show you that “revenge is BaD”. So then you’re going to tell me I have waited for years for Last of Us to resort to such writing????
@@bjakeijzer She starts of the whole game by killing a beloved character. Thats basic "how to be a villain 101". The cheapest and most cliché way to introduce a new threat/antagonist/villain
I feel like Naughty Dog didn’t know what to do with Abby; -In the Introduction, they paint her as the bad guy and then eventually a villain, which is later solidified before the flashback for Abby -Then they try to make her seem like a good person like making us feel sorry for what happened to her father (which he did not answer the question If his daughter was immune would he still do the surgery) Making her seem redeemable -Then make us fight Ellie (Who we’ve had more time to bond and understand) And almost killed Ellie’s pregnant girlfriend while saying “good” if it weren’t for Lev making Abby once again Villain -Only to at the last moments of the game make her seem pathetic and almost hopeless making her seem like someone you should help. And don’t get me started on the concept art I only remember 2 or 4 of them with Abby in them with Ellie in her parts
I didn’t wish death on Abby, because I wanted to see the story through her eyes, when Joel died we saw her as a killer and a monster, but to her Joel was the monster who killed her father and others trying to create a cure for the virus, and when she appeared in the theater, I realized that her story is just like Ellie’s someone kills another who was family to you, you go to avenge them, others get in your way and you kill them, but the one who you seek revenge on saw that family member as a means to an end
@@kendylmoore6770 well at the end u realise that both characters had a right for revenge, and i guess it's up to u to choose a side. At the end of Abby's story I was glad I got to experience her side of the story. But of course we will stand with Ellie at the end.

This is why I don't like TLOU2, It's just telling a story of someone such as Abby how she lost her father and seek for revenge. It's about revenge or anything like that, It's about people try to survive in this apocalypse.
I love the development of character in tlou 1 but i also love how they take an advantage to make me feel the grief of losing a father in part 2, never in my life think that a video game would make me felt like this. It will be fine if the the ending was like, Joel had to fight Abby at the ending, and then he kills her and Joel losing so much blood but he doesn't care (all he cares is elie alive) and then he stares he's last sunrise and then dies. that well be fine ending It feels more honorable ending for joel
deshaun fortune I just wanted an ending for Joel that makes since for his character. Joel was shown as a cautious and smart man in the first game, but the moment he saves abbys group, they for some reason offer to lead them to their group and give their names. This from the man that immediately recognized an ambush from bandits in the first game or took a while to even consider trusting characters such as Henry and Sam from the first game. But doing everything in his power to protect Ellie even risking his life is what made Joel’s character so endearing for players.
Yeah Remember when he was just an npc that players either just killed with no regrets or tried to non lethally take him down with like a foot shot, only for him to die anyways? I feel that many lets players just killed him and then learn years later that it comes to bite them in the ass

Yeah man, I hate it when characters have depth.
@@jameslanier2510 I hate it when characters have so much depth, they contradict themselves with depth-ception
Let's not forget Abby's dad was literally a different race and called "Bruce" in the game files of the first game.
Of course people expected the cure or smth of the sort to get mixed into tlou2 but they got a shitty revenge is bad plot instead.
@@snefff6560 Yes, it is. She literally says to Lev that the reason she's helping is "guilt" and a need to "lighten the load." And yes, the first game was about finding a cure. It was about Joel learning to love again and rediscover the father he once was.
There's nothing bad about the plot or story in 2 whatsoever.

That would ruin the game. The whole point is to understand her perspective, After the fact

Yes, she didn't know her dad asked for it, but Joel did still save her life.

This game could’ve been saved with just one choice. When Abby and Ellie meet at the theatre, they should’ve added an option to choose who to fight as
Then that wouldnt have provided a consistent narrative, leaving the game with broken cannon/non cannon story.
It had to be Abby because if ellie won Abby would have died. Abby had lev to stop her from killing dina and Ellie

That's not a failure, that's genius. All these streamers are being forced into the same exact mindset as Ellie - "I don't care about her motivations, I just want her dead". And you're forced to confront the consequences of that revenge along with Ellie. Brilliant.

@@ederlabarrera8143 How is he supposed to know who she is anyway? He never encountered Abby at that time.

It's funny how you "call out" other people for ignoring the entire context of Part 2 when people detest Abby and claim they just hate her because they want to when you've consistently ignored the first game's context.

No, it really wouldn't have.
I feel like abby would of been more redeemable if her anger was driven more so by hating that joel stole humanity’s only hope for a cure and less that joel killed her dad

-Then make us fight Ellie (Who we’ve had more time to bond and understand) And almost killed Ellie’s pregnant girlfriend while saying “good” if it weren’t for Lev making Abby once again Villain
-Only to at the last moments of the game make her seem pathetic and almost hopeless making her seem like someone you should help.

In fact Xavier never died cause he appeared in The Last Stand post credit scene
Pewdiepie’s reaction was basically me throughout playing all of Abby’s section
8:14 HAHAHAH OH MY GOD, SO ACCURATE 😂
This is why I don't like TLOU2, It's just telling a story of someone such as Abby how she lost her father and seek for revenge. It's about revenge or anything like that, It's about people try to survive in this apocalypse.
Yeah TLOU1 raises a lot of interesting questions about survival, TLOU2 not so much.
I love the development of character in tlou 1 but i also love how they take an advantage to make me feel the grief of losing a father in part 2, never in my life think that a video game would make me felt like this.
I still like how they made this game so emotional, idc what people say i'll still like it.
That is not the point of either game's story, lol. This just cements my belief that too many fans didnt grasp the plot of the first game.
@@JakeJupiter I know right? People don't understand the story of anything and are just so one sided. They then complain about bad story when they're too dumb to understand it.
@@conayinka most people understand revenge is bad and a fruitless adventure, but guess what? nobody gives a fuck, if they had done things better maybe we would care about the overarching meaning, the way to please a lot more people would have been to give a choice, give meaning to what did. This is a game not a book the consumer should enjoy their time not want to take a break or leave.
It will be fine if the the ending was like, Joel had to fight Abby at the ending, and then he kills her and Joel losing so much blood but he doesn't care (all he cares is elie alive) and then he stares he's last sunrise and then dies. that well be fine ending
It feels more honorable ending for joel
😭😭 if only
Particularly if he does it to save Ellie.
Everyone just wanted a heroic ending which makes no sense. He wasn't a hero.
deshaun fortune I just wanted an ending for Joel that makes since for his character.
@@Pprototype. wow bug pp
im so curious of every player reaction finding out Abby farther was one of the doctor who was been killed by Joel
Yeah
Remember when he was just an npc that players either just killed with no regrets or tried to non lethally take him down with like a foot shot, only for him to die anyways?
I feel that many lets players just killed him and then learn years later that it comes to bite them in the ass
This is what it would be like if we got to play as the people who killed John Wick's dog
U know u messed up when u get Chris Smoove angry 😂
*We need a Joel telling the truth to Ellie reactions too*
Berleezy’s gameplays be the funniest shit ong eughh
I imagine Druckmann watching this, laughing like a cartoony villain and whispering under his breath with a weirdly Slavic accent: "Good, everything according to my P L A N"
6:43, Brad's reaction is my favorite. It was pure shocking that he has to play Abby " Oh No "
4 years earlier - look at her face she looks like Jordan McEwen who played Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 2 Remake. And of course we're gonna play her for 12 hours.
But we liked Claire in RE 2 and i personally hate Abby like hell
Maynard Talisayon No she doesn’t lol
@@slayer4810 i mean almost 😆
My dad bought this game on his ps4 and he NEVERRR let’s me play until he finishes the whole game but when he saw he had to play Abby he was like wtf you know what you wanna play for a little and I was like uhh not really but sure. And even after we figured out why she killed Joel my dad was like I still don’t feel bad or anything for her do you? And I said nope not at all.
I’m doing my first play through on ps5 and once I got to this point I don’t even feel motivated to continue. 15 hours of Abby???!! Yeah I’m good back to playing rogue mode
This is like watching a whole season of Ramsey Bolton in Game of thrones
At least Ramsey was sorta fun.
Give me that season right now
