Glad This popped up. I was devastated when I heard Harry died. This is good. Brings me way back to another time in my life. Their will never be anyone who can sing like Harry. He was so unique.
That is Clark Wallace, son of the great Big John Wallace, on the left. Old John is 77 here, and he still has that wonderful baritone voice that he displayed with Harry Chapin way back in the 70's. A great man!!!
No one can sing like Harry did, but I do find Steve's interpretation of it an acceptable substitute. The only thing I don't really like is him singing the review. There's also a version here on YT with Steve and Big John and a cellist, which really does demonstrate how essential the cello is to the song.

Steve Chapin cant sing like Harry did, but Big John Wallace can still sing the part of Mr. Tanner just like he did 40 years ago. Big John!
