  • Happy Halloween!
    This is my take on the Dollar Tree toy Doll House to Haunted House transformation!
    I created some of the project while live over on my Twitch channel: / madam_mg and recorded the rest to make this complete process video!
    I used many items from Dollar Tree as well as some fun paints and other mediums. For a full supply list, check out the blog post on my website, www.mandascreativeclutter.com
    Halloween is my favorite holiday, I had a ton of fun making this decor piece, and I hope you have fun watching the video, I would love to know if you tried this transformation DIY out as well!

    This is the best doll house makeover I've ever seen. I especially like the size not to big to store after the holiday. I can't wait to give this a try although I'm afraid my painting skills have a lot to be desired. Job well done.

      One thing I like about this type of project is there are so many different ways to do it! I try to pick the houses up if I see them so I can make more. Another nice thing is you can always remake or add to the projects!

    So awesome!! I think maybe adding a pizza pan on the bottom that way to expand the yard space and it will have a flat bottom so you can sit it on a pedestal. Also Dollar tree has a witches LED fog cauldron for $5!! That would be bad ass in your little setting or maybe even inside the house.
    Thanks for sharing your ideas. Gonna go check out your site now. 🧡 🎃 👻

      Lol, I hoard all kinds of things, drives my family crazy! Can't tell you how many times I've said "I can make something with this". But hey, some things work so well, like who knew the top to an advil bottle would make a perfect steampunk bunny tail?! I've also saved most of my daughter's pacifier caps bc they look like they could be hats lol. I probably already have some pizza pans from Dollar Tree, I used a pizza, pie and cake pan to make one of the three tiered trays that have been popular. I do like the idea of having more space to play around with scenery, etc!

    Alot of great ideas here, thank you. My dollar store does not get anything good in, ever, so last year I had to order a case of these houses from the website. I have yet to make any into a haunted house but I think this year I will pull them out & get to work.
    Now that they raised the prices at dollar tree, I am very happy I did order a case of the houses, lol. I also had to order a case of the thin wood halloween house silhouettes & I am very happy I have them sitting here cause I have several different ideas to make them over. That price increase has hit those of us who have to order by the case really hard. I would prefer to buy in the store but they pick & choose what to give some of us & that is not fair. As a matter of fact, there are some things I cant even buy online, after I put my zip code in, it says they cant ship to me on many items.

    • @mandascreativeclutter
      @mandascreativeclutter  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so frustrating! I have a few Trees around my area that I juggle between to try to find what I want, but a lot of times I'm out just out of luck or they all sold already. I haven't bought a case of anything yet, I just don't have the space in my apartment. I wish some of the Halloween stuff would come in the smaller quantities, like those wood houses, I have some too and haven't done anything with them yet. AND I agree the price increase stinks, but I'm addicted to the place, it used to be so nice to go in and not have to look at the price tag (like every other store), I guess I can still do that, still cheaper than most stores. Thanks for watching, I'll try to show some alternatives in other projects, maybe things around the house or that you can find cheap at other stores, it does stink that we can't all have access to the same things!

      @@mandascreativeclutter Unfortunately I live in rural West Virginia. I have one 20 min away & the next closest is an hour drive each way. Neither get much of the newer stuff in & if they do, it is usually at least a year later. I looked for those small skeleton hands for 2 years after I saw people crafting with them until the store farther from me finally had them but I forgot what I was going to make with them by then! I have been searching for those house shaped shadow boxes for over a year & still have never seen them (that is one of the things the website says I cant have). I gave up watching people showing the new stuff & making things from dollar tree stuff because it is just too frustrating that I cant find it. I just dont understand why my location matters, especially when buying online.

    I love this so much could you please share the brand of paint that you used?

    • @mandascreativeclutter
      @mandascreativeclutter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and thank you! So I used a lot of different paints, but here's a short rundown, you can visit my blogpost here for a full, detailed supply list!: mandascreativeclutter.com/haunted-house-diy-from-dollar-tree-doll-house/
      (Hopefully that works lol)
      I used Black Gesso for the base, you could also spray paint or use acrylic paint.
      The shimmery powder paints are from Lindy's Stamp Gang, www.lindysgang.com, they're called "Magicals", and they are sold separately or in sets like you'll see in the video, they actually have a Halloween set which I LOVE, and those colors were used here a lot, Freaky Frakenlime, Screamin' Banshee Black, Hag's Wart Orange, Witch's Potion Purple (they're hard to resist based on the names alone!).
      I also used a good amount of Distress Products from Tim Holtz, Spray Stain, Oxide Spray and crayons, mostly in colors to add the grunge/antique feel, these colors include Black Soot, Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain
      The metallic acrylic paints I used were from a line by the artist Finnabair (Prima Marketing, Inc). They're called Art Alchemy Metalliques, I used Royal Red, Steampunk Copper, and Ancient Coin. Acrylic paints from Craft Smart (Michael's), Folk Art, etc can also be used, there is a wide selection of metallic colors in these brands and can be found in most craft stores and superstores like Walmart.
      Again, I have a detailed list for everything I used as well as some suggestions for alternatives and advice on where to find some products on the blog post on my website, the link is above, but you can also go to mandascreativeclutter.com and you should be able to find the haunted house post fairly easy if you'd like some more information.
      The coolest thing about a project like this is you can use so many different tools/products, you can experiment, you can stay as frugal as possible or go overboard, all you really need is your imagination and some patience! Hopefully this helps, I'm so sorry for being so long winded lol.

Your attention to detail is amazing in the various colors that you used and all the details of the embellishments that you used. Thanks for providing the link to your supplies. I'm new to making DIY crafts but I'm going to try this for this year's halloween. I really like the metal Beware sign listed. Where did you get that from?

      Thank you! I'm also fond of Halloween, it's pretty much celebrated all year long here! Lol! I'm excited for you to start your DIY crafting journey, once you start it's hard to stop (at least when it comes to buying all the fun supplies!) The metal Beware sign is a charm from a previous Tim Holtz Idealogy Halloween line. If you do a search with that info you should find them, if you have trouble, let me know! You could also emboss on a popsicle stick with a stamp or even find some letter rub on transfers to get a similar accent piece!

      @@mandascreativeclutter Your welcome. For the decorative embellishments on top of the windows, did you find it in the Finding page for the Tim Holtz Idea-ology line? Where did you get the stones that you used for the cobblestone path leading to the doorway? I wasn't sure if they were small rock flat stones or small round pebbles. I'm new to using black gesso. I did a search on Amazon using the words of 'black gesso'. It came up with several selections. I noticed on different ones it said the following words underneath the Black Gesso wording on the label: acrylic medium, universal primer, matte opaque, surface prep medium, opaque acrylic primer. I wasn't sure which one to select. Which one do you recommend for me to use for this DIY project?

    • @mandascreativeclutter
      @mandascreativeclutter  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tingleong8773 The embellishments on top of the windows aren't Tim Holtz, they're technically corner embellishments, I think I got them from Walmart or a craft store. I did a search on Amazon "corner embellishments for crafting" and a lot of similar items came up. The "Beware" metal piece is from Idea Ology Tim Holtz though. The stones are actually pieces of shell and they came in a pack from the craft store. You could use ripped or cut carton or cereal box cardboard as an alternative, you'd just have to paint the colors onto them. Anything lightweight, kind of flat and paintable will do! There are a lot of good info videos on Gesso on YT, one that helped me when I started out was th-cam.com/video/l4pk2n40uBo/w-d-xo.html , it's a video by Keren Tamir. The descriptions you're seeing all basically mean the same thing. It's essentially a primer so that other mediums you use (pastes, inks, paints, etc) will stick to the surface of your project. I think it boils down to preference. Finnabair Heavy Black Gesso is popular and one I use. It's a very thick consisteny. I also have a black gesso by Studio 71, it's a thinner consistency, I tend to use this one more because alittle goes a long way, and it doesn't coat small details too much where I might lose the texture, hope that makes sense! Golden brand is another good one. Personally, I'd start out with something on the cheaper side so you can experiment and get a feel for what works best for you!

      Hi Manda. I hope you are doing well. I started this DIY. I have a couple of more questions for you. Hopefully you don't mind. 1) The decorative elements on the bottom and on the side of the house that you said in the video that is similar looking to a coffin, do you use one of the paints in the Art Alchemy Metallique acrylic paint line? If so, was the color that you used Ancient Coin or a different color? 2) The rust appearance coming down from the windows on the roof, did you use Hag's Wart Orange color in Haunted Halloween set in Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals line? 3) Did you use a hair dryer on low setting to dry the parts of the house that you sprinkled the recollections embossing powder Aged Silver color? Thanks Ting
