    Ok, just an FYI.
    The tail end of a line is the Taper. Ex: A line tapers at the end.
    The thickness of a line is it’s weight not width. Lines don’t have a consistent width when they taper, but they have weight.
    Line weight should be considered as it relates to light. Line art has a ton of different applications and sometimes it’s better to not finish lines to allow the mind to fill in information. Generally, the case you’d allow a line to tape to nothing is when planes are clearly defined and the respective plane is facing light. This application is called a lost edge. It allows a clear implication of value where none exists should you have a line only piece.
    See Scott Robertson or Peter Han or really any Visual Communication (Vis Com) class for more information.

      Yeh... I think I'm satisfied with how I do my lineart with no line variations.

    • @nylo_arts
      @nylo_arts 5 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @@kinosden2428 It really can depend on your style or what you're trying to communicate. For example, most anime has consistent weight and no variation throughout all the lining (probably for animation purposes) but sometimes still adds some weight and variation to help depict distance and lighting. Definitely worth looking into, especially if you don't color your pieces. But, I don't think it's necessary for every art piece, because sometimes you want line art that doesn't stand out in order for the coloring to shine, etc.

    In a weird way, I think Blender may be one of the best tools for doing line art now. 2.8 added a new Grease Pencil tool and you can use sculpting tools to adjust your strokes - nudge them around, smooth them out, sharpen corners, adjust their thickness, erase unnecessary bits, even go into edit mode to adjust the individual nodes that make up the line if you want.

  • @sapsolace
    @sapsolace 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    if you're coloring your lines, make a clipping layer above your lineart layer! coloring on the clipped layer will make it so only your lineart is colored. i will also make a base color layer underneath the lineart and clip a layer on top of that so i don't have to worry about coloring outside any lines or missing pixels when using a paint bucket. hope this helps! :0

    • @SomeNormalArtist
      @SomeNormalArtist  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don’t have to make a clipped layer to change the color. It’s easier to check the “preserve opacity” box. This will give you the same result but it’s faster to do so.

    This is mostly from a western perspective, to be honest. A lot of Japanese mangaka who I´ve seen work (in documentaries, live streams, live drawings etc) construct many of their lines the way that you just told us not to, while drawing some the way that you did.
    This kind of minimal difference is why many people who´ve consumed manga for a long time can tell if something was drawn by a Japanese or a westerner.
