BARIPADA: PALLISHREE mela provides an opportunity to rural producers to directly sell their products, interact with outsiders from the same group and assessment of the preferences of urban consumers, said Keshaw Jha, Chief Executive of DSMS, a district unit of ORMAS (Orissa Rural Development and Marketing Society).
To help Mayurbhanj’s rural producers upgrade their skills, adjust their products as per the latest trends and polish their marketing capabilities a six-day Mass Marketing Mission will be held in the district from April 11 to 16. Rural artisans, self help groups (SHGs) and Swarojgaris from across the State will put up stalls during the mela.
The mela, this year, is expected to become a big draw with a few more rural producers from more areas of the state thronging the mass marketing mission at Baripada. Craftsmen in brass and bell metal and Chikan products from Uttar Pradesh, dry flower, cane and bamboo and mat weaving from West Bengal and bedsheets from Rajasthan are also participating in the mela, sources added.
The pallishree mela is being organised by Ormas in collaboration with the Mayurbhanj district administration, sources pointed out and added that this year’s mela is likely to be a big draw.
