I assume this is in reference to ISIS' flag. The Free Syrian Army is not to be mistaken with ISIS - they are different groups with different motives and end goals. Most of those fighting for the Free Syrian Army are defects from the Syrian Armed Forces, and a good portion of them are civilians who picked up arms against Bashar Al-Assad's regime.

There's been a ceasefire since 2020. From what little I've looked at today, there may have been signs that Assad was going to launch an offensive on the rebels but they decided to beat him to the punch. I doubt I fully understand it all, though.

Dumb comment, they've been actively fighting a war since 2011, they've been armed the whole time. Most of their equipment was taken from the Syrian army, or the Iraqi army through what they managed to capture from ISIS. Rest is bought from the black market, funded by donations from various Islamist organisations. Some groups are sponsored by Turkey but I don't think those are involved in the offensive.
The Russians can’t afford these side shows, however Ukraine benefits from them. I hope other Russian interests outside of their motherland follow suit. There’s never been a better time to break away from the Tyranny..
