Perfect video for me. I have a brand new 790 and I’m quilting my second quilt on it and with both I’m having a terrible time with puckering on the top and it’s driving me crazy. I just stopped because I have a feeling I need a walking foot. I’m going to my dealer for something else and I am buying one. At least I hope that will solve my problem because I’ve never had this happen on a quilt before.
Thank you for another great video! As a garment sewer I also prefer the walking foot when sewing slippery fabrics, or projects worth narrower seam allowance that the wide feed dogs aren’t good for. Another area is stitching very short and bulky seams, like the 1 cm long seam to stitch down the joint of knit binding on a jersey project (after stitching a binding with a binder attachment on a coverstitch machine).
Hello Jeff, you’re awesome! You explain things that no one does! I have a 475 qE without automatic dual feed . My aim is to have better feeding on stretch fabric. I bought the walking foot but I don’t feel that it’s enough. So I am thinking about upgrading to a BERNINA of a higher series dual feed in Bernina or just switching to PFAFF IDT feed system or even BROTHER (though stitch quality may suffer in the latter case). What do you think?
Your videos are always teaching me something new! I have a 765se from a 3rd party and the only walking foot I could find in my sewing room is the old 2 sole one - I obviously didn't realize the virtue of a walking foot. I was going to buy the newer one until I saw the price - then I realized the bottom fork is broken. So I went to my dealer today and bit the bullet. I wonder if that part is available for the older one or maybe the newer one would work? Do you sell those parts?
Wish I had known you could fix a walking foot! Mine got out of alignment when I was piecing a denim ragg quilt years ago and a Bernina dealer told me it wasn't repairable and I should throw it away and get a new one!
Hey Jeff. I have to disagree a bit. The difference between the machines with "dual feed" (like pfaff's IDT) or whatever bernina's is called is that the upper feed actually pulls the fabric through the machine. The walking foot you are using doesn't. It doesn't actively pull the fabric back. All it does is touch the fabric with spring loaded "feet" that don't impede the fabric's backwards movement as much as a normal foot would. The "dual feed" machines actively do pull the fabric back with that upper feed mechanism.

Can you stitch a 9mm stitch with the walking foot?
I've not been able to find a walking foot for my Bernette b77. I thought the dual feed must replace it. Thanks for explaining the difference.
I just bought a Bernette 77 and was told that you can not use a walking foot on it.
