Hilarious thing is think about how many crashes that mail jeep was in. Probably 40 or 50 across countless 80s TV shows. Just like army jeeps of old and crown Victoria squad cars they were wrecked a lot on TV because fleets of them were retired. In this case cool old mail jeeps the Grumman llv replaced.
That small transformer was a life saver cut the power off but even if those lines weren't jumping I'd be to scared to get out not knowing if they're energized
Back in my high school years I used to commute by bus. Usually 2 of them came in peak time, there were so many of us. Most of the people fought their way to the first vehicle which was also faster as it left out some stops, I decided to wait for the second one. We've caught up with the first bus just leaving the town, it was in a trench, a broken high voltage pole on it's roof and the wires dangling. Can't tell you how thankful I was for my patience.

First he gets a missile shot up his exhaust, this happens to him, next an acid pit, then gets his tyre punctured by a laser and then in the season's penultimate episode, gets his scanner knocked out by another laser. Least they didn't encounter the juggernaut til Season 4.

In the pilot episode, Devon says KITT isn't made of steel, but a special alloy with the bonded molecular shell. Maybe that alloy isn't as good as protecting the occupant from a live power line as regular steel and that's why Michael was so shaken up?

NBC tried to reboot Knight Rider in 2008 using a Mustang for KITT and with the Michael Knight in that version portrayed as the son of the original; sadly, Knight Rider 2008 only lasted one season :(

if this was the Defender for the tv show Viper it would shut down after the power wires, BUT not KITT he keeps going
Plus the molecular bonded shell is much stronger than the Defenders armor and KITT is much faster
Yes he shut down in split decision but was still drivable and later it morphed again with all his systems intact still very durable car
