The Hidden Horror Of The Nazi Cemetery In Berlin - The Invalidenfriedhof

  • Inside of Berlin in the heart of the city is a cemetery with a very dark History. It was an old military cemetery which during the Third Reich and the Second World War became a site synonymous with Nazi burials. Many of World War 2's most evil war criminals such as Reinhard Heydrich were buried inside of the Invalidenfriedhof, or the Invalid's Cemetery but Heydrich's grave was later opened a few years ago.
    But also the Invalidenfriedhof had a dark reputation during the Cold War, as the 'Death Strip' inside of Berlin literally ran through the cemetery as did the Berlin Wall. But today there are still many Nazis who are buried inside of the Invalidenfriedhof, and their graves remain.

    Soviets shooting at those trying to escape from the GDR? The border was constructed and guarded by the East Germans, in certain places there were Soviet Watchtowers i.e Helmstedt, but as already mentioned the East German Border Guards were guarding the IGB, including in Berlin, as a former British Soldier stationed in BAOR/BfG and after my service was still living in West Germany when the Wall came down, so it's very much part of my lifestory! Thanks for your contribution, I watch these more than TV! ❤👍🏽👋🏽🙏🏼

      Yes that's right, that's what they were looking for, Himmler's SS Honour sword. If true that Himmler swapped them out due to their relationship(s) work and private and Heydrich's status (remember that Heydrich was more feared than Himmler within the party circles) Himmler wearing that sword would be regarded as somewhat of a prize.
      And both swords have not been seen since, so if Reinhard's real sword is missing and the one resting beside him was truly Himmler's, in the world of the private Nazi collectors that sword is worth the effort of grave robbing.

      Google Grave Robbers and you'll see that it's a tale as old as time. People have found ways to break into Graves mostly to steal jewelry/pry out gold fillings. Over time it's became less and less of a thing. Modern medicine wouldn't be what it was today if it weren't for those who were paid by doctors to rob fresh corpses for medical research.

    The Invalidenfriedhof is not a "Nazi" cemetery and your video title is entirely misleading and a complete mischaracterization of a cemetery that was already nearly 200 years old before the Nazi's came onto the scene. A better title would be "Nazi's who are buried in the Invalidenfriedhof." Get it right, the Invalidenfridhof is a historical Prussian military cemetery that was used by the Nazi's. Also, Werner von Fritsch was certainly no Nazi. As commander in chief of the Army he was targeted by the Nazi's and forced from office based on false accusations because he was not a Nazi, and ultimately went to his death in what is believed to be a suicide when he strayed too close to the fighting in Poland in 1939 when attached to the artillery regiment that he was the honorary commander of. This kind of Nazi mudslinging is ridiculous when you condemn a legit military cemetery with extensive historical importance just because some Nazi's (Heydrich being the worst example possible) are buried there. Most viewers on TH-cam don't know enough about the issue to draw an accurate conclusion. Shameful pandering.

    Does it bother anyone else that he pronounces cemetery as cemetry? Eliminates an entire syllable. Kind of like nails on a chalkboard. The Brits do that with military, too...militry. But it is not usually so prevalently pronounced.

    • @australiantruckspotting8883
      @australiantruckspotting8883 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It’s an American thing to pronounce every syllable in every word. You don’t need to. It is pronounced just cemetry, militry, commentry etc. The English language is full of silent letters that Americans pronounce unnecessarily.
