I bought my Hitachi TRK-7620H back in '86 for $160. Still have it and it still thumps hard. What a fantastic device. Super nice collection you have there. Mine is represented (in red, mines white bordered), second one from left in your collection.

Your beautiful collection is truly extraordinary; I have the TKR-3D5W, and I was lucky enough to acquire it from a Bolivian friend who was a merchant marine, who sold it to me in 1982, if I had the opportunity to buy another, I would buy it, greetings from Lima Peru.
Thanks for your sharimg your story. The 3D5 has great sound for the size of the box. The early model 3D units were of a much better quality than the later 90s models.
I found a TRK 3D40E out by a skip. I opened it up, wiggled some wires and i works. I didn't have any C batteries to hand so soldered the wires to a plug to my bike light battery and also some other leads that could go to a solar panel, so now I have an outdoor boom box which charges in the sun and has long battery life!
What a great collection, I remember a friend in high school nad one and I didn't appreciate it because of the departure in Looks from the traditional style, but man that thing put ojt sound. I'm looking to buy a 3d80 very soon to give my son for his tunes and gaming setup.
Fantastic and surely very hard job done! To find and get one of these in MINT condition - Mission Impossible - better than Tom Cruise acting! Recpect! A very possitve freak you are indeed. I miss 80' gear too, late 70' were also great in boomboxes, especially Made in Japan, not Singapore, nor Nowhere (China) as today's.
I have the 3D8E,3D88E,3D30E x2, TRK760E This Hitachi model type with its many variants is in my opinion , the most iconic and have quality, I remember them 1st time round! I sure you agree.. Just great that someone answered me back in welsh , iaith y pobol hefo synwyr !!!

Hi Richard.. only just picked this up as not been on for a while.. i don't have one for sale at the minute, but i have a rough one which i kept as both decks are working, so if you find one which is nice but decks are not good, you could always swap them over.. Do you want the one with the gold writing or tye white writing on the front as there are 2 versions. The gold writing front ones are the later ones, exactly the same otherwise. Diolch Julian

I just got my hands on some old hitachi speakers. All writings there is.. hitachi 3d super woofer.. Dunno was 50eur to much for theme but they do look like beasts. Went trough all hitachi speakers i could find info on and nothing is even similar on design :/ Sound is great thou, easly beats much more expensive speakers so I,m quite happy lol.
I have one of those ghetto blasters the big one with the speakers in a row with the twin cassette. I also have a Rover 75 in moonstone green. My old 75 was black like yours though.
Thank you. The Rover 75 is actually Dark Green. It's been sold now. It was my Dads. He had a 75 Estate in Dark Blue. Don't know the actual shade though.
Nice Collection :D I just got a Hitachi TRK-3D8E. But it needs some cleaning and new belts. Does anyone know where i can get the right belts? Are there models with the same tape mechanism?
@@Stylus01 i don't know Im sorry. I'm not good with tape decks and have never replaced belts so have no idea what size is nerdrd. There are service manuals online though for nearly all the models

This is an amazing collection and inspired me to buy a 3D88E which is now on TH-cam. I am trying to replace it belts so if anyone knows the sizes I would appreciate some assistance. Again, superb collection here.

Well endless hours hunting them down on ebay and also some have come from other collectors. Getting them boxed is not easy but I am going to try and get them all boxed if i can.

An amazing collection! I have the chance to buy a 3d88e but before I do I was wondering has this got a nice bass to it? Or is there one from the models that's better?
Hi James. The 3D8 gives you a sense of it being more bass heavy as the woofer really pumps ..6 amps of power goes to the 1 middle speaker. The 3D88 and 3D80 have 2 of those speakers but only 3 amps of power to each one. The Bass is actually about the same but because the 3D8 pumps so hard with the single speaker it gives the impression it is bassier. The 3D88 is a nice sounding box the bass is about the same as the 3D8 but its more refined especially at louder levels. Hope that helps and thanks on your kind comments on my collection. Also I forgot to say the 3D7 is a nice box but not as powerful as the 3d8 or 3D88. However at low sound levels I would put the 3D7 over the 3D8 in terms of sound as it has a 5 band graphic equaliser as where the 3D8 only has a 3 band so you can get a more refined sound on the 3D7... but in terms of loudness the 3D8 wins over the 3D7. Also the 3D7 doesn't have a dedicated line in switch like the 3D8. The 3D88 is 5 band graphic equaliser as well.

Hi Mark, to be honest there isn't really any difference in all 3. The 3D8 sometimes seem like it is more bassy even though it only has the one large woofer. It gives that impression because the chips from the amp drive all the power to the one Woofer , so it bounces much more than the 2 on the 3D88 and 3D80 and it thumps hard. Only half the power goes to the 2 woofers from the amp of the 3D80 and 3D88, so its the same amount of power going to the woofers but it's split in half. This gives the bass a more refined sound on the 3D80 and 3D88 as the speakers are not pounding as hard. I personally prefer the 3D80 sound over the 3D8, but there is no really difference in power. The 3D88 is exactly the same as the 3D80 in terms od sound. It's exactly the same box except the is a tape counter on the 3D80 which the 88 doesn't have and also you have a tape reverse mode on the 3D88 which the 3D80 doesn't have. Apart from that they are identical apart from the styling. Cheers Julian

I will take some pics for you Thursday, I have been thinking of selling the double one I have anyway. It's near perfect condition. no marks on it. I have an original box for it, but no poly inserts or instruction manual. Both cassette decks work perfect on it too as all funnctions

Well endless hours hunting them down on ebay and also some have come from other collectors. Getting them boxed is not easy but I am going to try and get them all boxed if i can.
Hitachi 3D Heaven do you have all they made from those periods? as boxes go they look stunning. perfectly designed and also they sound great. I'm catching up btw, I have 3!!

An amazing collection! I have the chance to buy a 3d88e but before I do I was wondering has this got a nice bass to it? Or is there one from the models that's better?
Is just the 3d8e with single woofer better?
Or even the 3d7 haha
Hi James. The 3D8 gives you a sense of it being more bass heavy as the woofer really pumps ..6 amps of power goes to the 1 middle speaker. The 3D88 and 3D80 have 2 of those speakers but only 3 amps of power to each one. The Bass is actually about the same but because the 3D8 pumps so hard with the single speaker it gives the impression it is bassier. The 3D88 is a nice sounding box the bass is about the same as the 3D8 but its more refined especially at louder levels. Hope that helps and thanks on your kind comments on my collection. Also I forgot to say the 3D7 is a nice box but not as powerful as the 3d8 or 3D88. However at low sound levels I would put the 3D7 over the 3D8 in terms of sound as it has a 5 band graphic equaliser as where the 3D8 only has a 3 band so you can get a more refined sound on the 3D7... but in terms of loudness the 3D8 wins over the 3D7. Also the 3D7 doesn't have a dedicated line in switch like the 3D8. The 3D88 is 5 band graphic equaliser as well.

Hi Mark, to be honest there isn't really any difference in all 3. The 3D8 sometimes seem like it is more bassy even though it only has the one large woofer. It gives that impression because the chips from the amp drive all the power to the one Woofer , so it bounces much more than the 2 on the 3D88 and 3D80 and it thumps hard. Only half the power goes to the 2 woofers from the amp of the 3D80 and 3D88, so its the same amount of power going to the woofers but it's split in half. This gives the bass a more refined sound on the 3D80 and 3D88 as the speakers are not pounding as hard. I personally prefer the 3D80 sound over the 3D8, but there is no really difference in power. The 3D88 is exactly the same as the 3D80 in terms od sound. It's exactly the same box except the is a tape counter on the 3D80 which the 88 doesn't have and also you have a tape reverse mode on the 3D88 which the 3D80 doesn't have. Apart from that they are identical apart from the styling. Cheers Julian

I will take some pics for you Thursday, I have been thinking of selling the double one I have anyway. It's near perfect condition. no marks on it. I have an original box for it, but no poly inserts or instruction manual. Both cassette decks work perfect on it too as all funnctions
