Hmm, Siegmire does seem to have the best heart out of the four, but he feels like an ineffectual ally atm. Bast has enough clarity and care to recommend we get the duck outta fodge, but he also thinks a war killing, presumably, a lot of people is a fair exchange for easier familial relationships. Niles really has done a bad job protecting us thus far tbh, and there is the worry of what will happen if he wins the war, but I feel like I align with him and his goals the most? I guess I'm mostly with Niles for now, but he really needs to put his money where his mouth is. Also, it took me a hot second to realize he was "tsk tsk tsk"ing at us and not like- kissing our face with pecks or something XD
So Sunny’s “beloved” died in an incident that left scorch marks, Niles says our blood burnt him. Sunny insists we remind him of his “beloved”, Niles said “you” instead of “your predecessor” before correcting himself… methinks some hijinks are gonna ensue…
I do pity Sunny. He seems convinced his brothers had something to do with his beloved's death. Meanwhile, they all seem very wary of him. I wonder where the truth lies, but Sunny's definitely unstable and not to be trusted. With how he projects his grief, Niles makes a good point about his inability to love others. Very excited to see where this goes. I smell a confrontation brewing!

He's a knight, but so far he hasn't given off that vibe-the chivalrous to the end kind of vibe. he's very protective of the listener, but it obviously seems like a special case. which makes me think there was something going on with him and Sunny's lover too-if not romantic or unrequited, then maybe some level of friend- or kinship? Great job as always. I'm loving this series.

There's also an interesting line Niles says when the listener met his brothers, that it's best if the hand disciplining "the beast" is a familiar one. Maybe Niles recognised the listener (he even says they have a fire within them!) and thought they'd be a good way to get Sunny in line and out of grieving. Meanwhile Sieg and Bast are on edge because this could motivate people (either the listener or Sunny or even Niles) to take a closer look at what happened that day. After all, when Sunny attacked Sieg, it was Bast and not Niles who went looking for Sunny afterwards.
