  • Bob`s Birthday Countdown, Day 33, Bob Dylan
Pt 2 will be published on Day 27 April 28th
Dylan, who is interviewed backstage at Wembley by Martha Quinn for MTV. The interview lasts over half an hour. Dylan is extremely talkative, discussing such matters as his early days at the Cafe Wha, the recording of Infidels, and his attitude toward videos. MTV broadcasts very little of the interview. At the end of the interview, Dylan tells Quinn that she asked some really good questions.

In the comments below, everyone is praising Dylan. Why not give some praise to Martha Quinn, the interviewer? It's thanks to her laidback, friendly, intelligent approach and way of questioning that he opened up like that. He felt comfortable and relaxed in her presence. Great work, Martha Quinn!

Years ago, I read that Bob's son Jesse was dating Quinn at the time. Maybe that's why Bob was so cordial and generous with his time.

Bob has such a clear common sense, it´s refreshing :, how he speaks about the music buisness and himself -it ´s a fun to listen him.."I never listen to any records-well I will if the´re on..but I mean I don`t go home..and" I wanted to fill it up more and more (his music)-every note is it´s already there for you " Bob speaks as the lives..that great

Actually,,Mr ordinary chap, its my favourite album, I no its a bold statement, but sometimes it's not all about the music, but the ambience, the time it came along, it seems to remind me of American civil war, new Orleans, betrayal, mercinairies, witches, and honour and deciet, the album cover is simply cool, and it was the first time I saw him live, earls Court London, in the early eighties, good times dude. 😎

In 1978, I was in tune with many Dylan songs: a la 'Like A Rolling Stone" and "Lay Lady Lay". But hearing "Changing of the Guard", from Street Legal - playing outside "my" college's radio station as I walked through the courtyard one day to class . . . SOLD me on Bobby going forward. And I'm not sure why, except for the constant rhyming masterpiece of songwriting and performance, but the song "No Time To Think" is my current fave from this treasured LP.

Entertaining however, the reporter seemed reluctant to ask any real challenging questions. For instance, he starts to talk about how the press exaggerates poor audience reaction. He says it never happened. What a chance to press on the acrimony he experience when he “went electric”. I would have loved to hear a real perspective- although he probably would dismiss any attempt.
Softball questions for MTV. Still fun though. Knowing Bob and his track record with the ladies, he decided to be nice.

The reason Bob Dylan often gave surly interviews is because he was usually asked inane question. I mean seriously, if you listen to some of those old interviews you soon get the picture.
But when its about the music, not who’s shagged who, not what do you think about religion, not what do you think about politics, Dylan does engage as can be seen here.

My 1st record was a Xmas present from my dad when I was 7 it was The Times they are a changing ... I know more about Bob Dylan than I want to. Tom Petty thought he was God. Tom Petty didn't know how good he himself was. Thank god for the Travelling Wilburys. Jacob Dylan his son is an incredibly armoured person with good reason. I do think Dylan deserved the Nobel Prize for literature. As a human being, jury is out but I am not wasting time on it. The number of people he hurt or discarded is legion and tired of all this rubbish.
