- The turn of the 20th century sparked a massive migration to American cities, leading to an increase in pollution, crime and disease. Inspired by the beautiful modern urban aesthetic displayed in Chicago's World Fair in 1893, a City Beautiful Movement began to spread throughout the country. Denver's Mayor, Robert Speer, sought to beautify the city's buildings, parks and community areas while simultaneously constructing a controversial legacy.

The content in this Colorado Experience series is amazing. I discovered this channel and this series about a week ago (Oct 2019) and I keep coming back to find more gems. I was born and raised in Denver and at 47 years old, I still enjoy learning new things about my stomping grounds. Excellent job by Rocky Mountain PBS!
Would R. Speer be surprised at the fact that even "common folk" today here in Denver appreciate his realized "visions". Our parks are the BEST IN THE NATION! I also appreciate the fact that there is STILL ELBOW ROOM here in our City. This is one of the very first things I noticed upon my arrival here 3 years ago . May We Keep It this WAY!
Great video. I will look at these buildings differently now
TRUST ME: A BETTER AND ELEVATED CLIMATE DOES TRULY AID IN BETTER HEALTH!
He sounds like the Politicians of T-Hall, NYC. It seems to have been the Era Consciousness, back then.
It's also hard to define Republican and Democrat in that time, as they were admist their swapping agendas, at the time and they just cant be compared to their Counterparts of today.
Grand ideas ALWAYS encounter opposition.
I've walked by his grave in Fairmount many times.
Wish Denver metro would invest more into infrastructure, we need it bad.
He succeeded through "the Law of Attraction" - Physics period.
Jesus taught this. Yep
