  • Know how to make perfect crispy Karasev or Khara Sev in just a few minutes without baking soda. It is a lightweight snack that is loved by all and it is a popular Diwali snack. Recipe in Kannada with English subtitles.
    Follow my instructions in the video to prepare perfectly crispy Karasev or Khara Kaddi without using Baking soda. This is healthier and homely version of this snack.

    Ingredients with reduced measurements for 2 people (scale accordingly):
    Besan or Gram Flour - 2 Cups
    Rice Flour - 1/4 Cup
    Red Chilli Powder - 3 tsp
    Crushed Ajwain or Carom Seeds - 1 tsp
    Crushed Jeera or Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
    Salt - 1 and 1/2 tsp
    Hot Oil - 1/4 Cup
    Oil for frying
    The measurements listed below in the instructions follow what is shown in the uploaded video.
    Instructions :
    In a big bowl, add 5 Cups of Besan, 1/2 Cup Rice Flour and mix once
    Next add 2 tsp crushed Carom Seeds, 2 tsp crushed Jeera or Cumin Seeds, 5 tsp Red Chilli Powder and 3 tsp Salt and mix it up well once.
    Add 1/2 Cup of Oil in a pan and heat it till it starts to to turn to piping hot. Add this Oil to the flour mixture and mix it up with spatula.
    Now slowly add water little at a time and knead well till it turns to soft dough. Dough should be little softer than normal chapati dough.
    Now take Chakli press and use Karasev plate. Pour little oil on the sides of press and keep ready.
    Take little portion of the Karasev dough and make oblong shape and add it to the press a fix it to the Chakli press.
    In a flat pan, add Oil for deep frying. Once Oil turns to hot, press the Karasev dough directly to the Oil as you see in the video.
    Fry in medium flame, once the one side turns slight crispy then fry other side and remove from Oil and transfer to a strainer to drip excess oil.
    Repeat for the remaining dough till you finish it.
    Now crispy Karasev or Khara Sev or Khara Kaddi is ready to serve.
