  • Flautist Milind Sheorey was born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where he began learning the flute under his first guru, the late Pt. Prabhakar Bagadadev between 1983 and '87. In 1987 he moved to Mumbai in search of a new guru, and two years later, came under the tutelage of the doyenne of the Maihar Gharana and daughter of Baba Allauddin Khan, Vidushi Annapurna Devi, who taught him to play dhrupad, khayal and thumri angs on the bansuri. His rigorous study with Maa Annapurna Devi went on for eight years. She remains to this day an enduring source of inspiration and guidance in his riyaz.
His distinctive style of playing the bansuri is characterised by a highly fluid and vocalised approach, involving the use of sweeping glissando slides (meend) in aalaap and complex tonguing techniques in the jhor and jhala.
In 1993-95, he was awarded the National Scholarship for classical music.
Milind was the opening artiste at the popular FEA-curated KHAYAL RANG series. He began his recital with Raag Marwa. He was accompanied by Kaushik Basu on tabla.
