I recommend not plotting all three books. Plot the first one, and outline the second and third. You'll discover a lot about the story and world as you write and it will change the plot of books 2-3 and if you've already plotted them, that might mess up how you feel about them.
I plot my next book in a series, outline one or two in detail, then rought outline a few more. As I write, I learn more and add things to the outlines, then when I've gone through enough edits that I know there's no big discoveries left, I begin to plot the next book. That way I'm not having to change things later to keep to ensure continuity with the first book.

Plotting doesn't just make the writing process faster, it actually makes editing faster, because when you plot, you do a lot of your editing before you write the story. Then your vomit draft is more like a good 3rd draft.
When I plotted the first book I self-published, I plotted it in the september and October. I wrote it in November for NaNoWriMo, finished it in December. Edited it in February and March and published it in June.
Now, it wasn't my best work and my writing has gotten stronger since then, but with plotting you can definitely get a book up faster. But, after publishing 16 novels and 5 novellas, my big piece of advice is if you are a low energy person, avoid rapid release publishing at all costs. I didn't and I burned out. I'll probably never write that genre again because so much of my exhaustion is tied to writing that genre and I know a lot of other rapid release people who are burning out as well.

@@lucypeace6132 love this!!! I just listened to another girl who’s normally a super plotter in her stand alones say the same about writing series. This seems more manageable for sure!

Oh my gosh so when you said K.M. Weiland I freaked out. That's my girl! I just found her craft books a few monhs ago and totally adore them. Have you checked out her Writing Archetypal Character Arcs book? Its been a revelation for me, especially while plotting my own fantast trilogy.
You are super inspiring me to make a bunch of trilogy planning videos that have been kicking around in the back if my head so thank you! I love love love seeing other peoples approaches. I'm a mom, too, and my oldest just started kindergarten even though we had been planning to homeschool (I was homeschooled and it was great, but apparently my daughter is a massive extrovert and it wasn't a good fit for now 😅) and I'm home trying to make writing happen while momming the four year old.
I dont think theres any wrong way to plot a trilogy! Whatever makes sense for you is probably right. Everyone has different styles and its all a learning process. I also thought I could pants- just realized last year that I actually do waaay better when I plot. I Would highly recommend checking out Ellen Brock's video on the Four Writing Types- she's a novel editor and talks about the two continuums of writers that she sees- Pantsers and Plotters, and Intuiting and Methodology. She gives some great examples of each to help you identify where you fall and has awesome tips for how to work with your style of writing. That's how I discovered I'm actually a Methodological Plotter and not an Intuitive Pantser like I'd been hoping I was for years. Writing isn't like pulling teeth anymore! It's great!
Anyways good luck and keep going! Youre doing great! 🎉😊

@@C.F.Claire okay, sister, you are my people! I haven’t read that book of K.M Weiland’s but I did listen to her podcast on it. She truly has such valuable resources!
My oldest went to school last year for that exact reason! And I’m home with a four year old also! ( and a 2 year old😅)
Make the videos!!! I love hearing about other moms doing the writing thing! Good luck with yours also!!!
