(The correct way to write 'pineapple' in Taiwanese is 王梨) In fact, the pineapple cake was influenced by Western-style pastries and is not purely a traditional Taiwanese pastry. The names of some Taiwanese foods don't reflect their actual ingredients. For example, 'chicken rolls' (雞捲) are not made with chicken but with pork.
