I Need To Leave San Diego

After several months of vanlife in San Diego, it is time for me to leave. The great advantage to vanlife in general is being able to pick up and move whenever the need or want happens to arise.
Even though I feel a need to leave the area, I don’t have a clear idea of where to go. But that’s ok. Because my van is my home, I can be at home wherever I park.
So, I am just going to drive and let the road take me to my new destination.
My first stop is to see friends in the Coachella Valley. This is a day in my life of being back on the road.
If you would like to help me keep making videos, please take a look at some of the links below. Thank you!

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

Oh my, I so love this orchestra 🎶 🎵 I totalmente agree. I remember making those tortillas wrap, yummm. Beautiful mountains gorgeous flowers. Cicadas music enjoy listening to.

Sounds right
I lived in San Diego in the early 80s...loved it. I'd return, but there is just too many people, traffic noise. Call somewhere paradise...kiss it goodbye.
Love the classical music.....good taste
Hi Scott I’ve been watching your videos 🤩
Hey Scott. My son and I are leaving Tucson today, so I guess the title to this one applies to us too. My dad needs help with Mama, she’s had Alzheimer’s for quite a few years now. So, back to North Carolina we go. I’m not sad to be leaving this desert, but I kinda wish we had been able to go back up to Oregon. Maybe I’ll make it back out there one of these days. Thanks for sharing, Here we go!😊🌲🌺
I hope you have a pleasant drive back home.
Your friend with the lovely floral growing that keeps a "Mountain Lion," and makes oh so delicious looking a dinner... Kinda liken to the feel for me of may have lasted only a few hours yet seemed to be a couple of weeks vacation break
🌺🌸🌺 😻 🌺🌸🌺
I live in Pa. We had thousands of cicadas, they were louder than the Crickets at night, when they first came up out of the ground, we fed them to our eastern box turtles, when they got their wings, you could see the birds catch them in mid air❣
Free turtle food! All you can eat. Haha
lots of love from turkey scot brother,i have been watching you so long,i hope one day you become rich and famous.
Aww, Thanks. But I don’t want to be rich and famous. I’m just trying to be happy.
It's good to get away and I do see the outline of the mountain where you're sitting at right now so stay safe and be careful out on the road and happy travels and I love watching your videos🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🙏🙏🙏🙏
Enjoy the Journey and be safe. Remember our Community is flexible Nomadic and sometimes find ourselves back where we started, in case San Diego. Thanks for Sharing Making Memories. 👍👍⬆️☘️🚙🍀💪💪
s.c.v. i love that view at the beginning you standing in total peace sir much loved
I just traveled in time to leave a like
🦋
Great video, nice to see the comparison between different weather. Makes such a huge different on comfort!
Good luck in you're new travels.
Very kindest of wishes.
Thank you
Thank you for taking us along on your journey. This seems to be the summer of the heat wave. Hello from Western Missouri. Safe travels.
Thanks for following along.
This morning I was driving with my window open and air conditioner turned off. It was only 101f . Live in a desert and you will adjust to it. In the winter when it gets down to 60f, I am wearing a heavy jacket. One can tell who the snow birds are, they are running around in shorts.
I’ve spent almost 40 years living in the desert. As I am getting older, it seems that I don’t do well in very hot or very cold weather.
I stayed in the 70s all summer in Co.
Nice!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and got tickled each time you laughed ! I’ve never seen you laugh so much 😄 Thank you and I can’t wait to see what you do next !!!
Oh yes that shot overlooking the water while enjoying your coffee was astounding 💁♀️ Thank you !!
Head for the hills!
You know it!
Its in the high 70's daytime and low 40's at night here in Western Montana this week, smoke's pretty well gone. I hope your urge to leave SD doesn't portend disaster, my 19 year old daughter flew there yesterday to accompany her BF back here.
San Diego is a great place to be, your kids are going to be good. They might change their minds and stay a few months!
Wishing you well my friend. 🙂
Thank you. Hope you’re doing awesome.
Beautifully Done the music and scenery. Beginning of video
Thanks so much
I have had those ( I need to leave California ) feelings every since I moved here , but I have stayed for different reasons ... some day I will travel God willing.
Good to see you traveling again...
I hope all is well, it appeared as though your mind is full, (maybe some stress?)
I'm anxious to see where life takes you... where you take life.
I always enjoy seeing your van... the simplicity of living a minimalistic life in a smaller van I admire.
I bought a boat... a four-wheeled boat. 🙄
Yes, I can carry more but...
But the grass is always greener as they say. I like yours...
I'm just beginning my build as it presently sits on my driveway.
Sitting here this AM procrastinating and enjoying a cup of coffee, and your video, while doing so, (I wish your video were longer!) Someone awhile back called you a coffee snob... I'm not.
Why do I bring this up?
Coffee snob or not... there's a difference. I'm beginning to learn the sometimes subtle differences, sometimes strong differences, with brands, roasts, pre-ground or not... and I'm enjoying the quest for just that perfect cup-o-joe I can duplicate. Had fresh ground coffee yesterday while out, a better quality caramel creamer...
And it was about as close to an adult cup of coffee I've ever had. =]
I'm 58... and to date my coffee has been heavily modified with... all things childish. Quik, Snickers creamer, (a lot), sugar... (again, a lot.)
It was truly an enjoyable cup of coffee which didn't have all that garb in it... I was able to really enjoy the coffee for what it was. Coffee snob? No... you're just someone who appreciates, (I'm learning myself), the pleasure of an 'adult' cup of coffee... the pleasure of it, a simple, basic pleasure. ☕
At this pace, rate of development, I expect to fully mature by the year 2080, 2082... give or take.
I'm in Sacramento... woke at three this morning and the smoke was thick in the nostrils. You're going to be experiencing it if you drive up this way. Be safe...
All the best!
Thanks for the words.
My intention is to upload more often. Maybe that will make up for shorter videos. Or maybe I can start making some longer. I appreciate hearing feedback.
Most days, I’ve switched to making coffee with an AeroPress. It makes a fantastic cup even if I do everything wrong.
Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with smoke. I’d be up in the Sierra now if not for the fires.
The grass will always be greener ✌🏼
@@StaticCamperVan
Thank you for responding...
I will pick up the AreoPress at your suggestion.
Love the music and that’s a nice ‘photo’ of you standing there at the beginning of the video... peaceful.
I wish you well, always...
Steve.
Good for you Scotty, you’re on the move again. 🌹👍🏼
“A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.” - Lao Tzu. Sounds to me like you’re a good practitioner of this philosophy.
I’m living one day at a time. And loving it.
Very interesting video like always, thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge of van life
The 🎶 used in the intro was stunning.
Stay. We went East. Bad mistake. Oceanside would be perfect!
I also had problems with oil consumption (in a Subaru Forester) and, as long as you are out of warranty period, a swap from 0-20 to 5-30 solved it.
Nice you found a solution
I live in the Sac Valley can't see across my backyard
That’s awful, sorry to hear that.
It's like pooh bear on an adventure 😊.
I lived in Cali for 33 years and when I took my early retirement, I had to leave, the cost of living was getting crazy high, so I can to a tiny town in Texas and I live it. I pay 99 cents for eggs and gas is $1.67 a gal so life on a fixed income is very doable and ppl are so sweet and I love it herem
That sounds wonderful
Good update, looking forward to seeing where your travels may bring you. I like how mindful you are of your vehicle's "health" - a good reminder for me, as I'm still adjusting to the differences between passenger car and cargo van, and the different kinds of driving I do now. Safe travels, I know you'll share the warts-n-all of your journeys.
Thank you. We need to look after our home. Be it made of sticks or iron.
you are so welcome thanks for sharing
Absolutely nothing wrong with the motto..." No schedule....No problem" ✌️ 🚐
✌🏼
Love your videos. Oil burn is common now days with many vehicles. Poor quality at higher prices and we keep buying this junk.
Pretty amazing to have a home on wheels. Can't wait to see where you go next.
Me too!
Gas is 2.85 a gallon here in North Carolina . California is crazy expensive !
Oil and water, something a lot of people never check even when they head out to the highway on a long road trip.
Oops , Sorry, I found your amazon page with all the links. thanks!!
You’re welcome. I don’t have the monetization turned on for Amazon. So don’t feel the need to buy from my links.
I used Google to find the best deal on the filters I’m currently using.
Hey buddy. Just wanted to tell you that I am stocking up on nodoz and jet alert CAFFEINE tabs. We could run out of soda and coffee. Those CAFFEINE withdrawal headaches! Many will suffer! They also are a appetite suppressor. You won't feel as hungry as you really are. If it comes to that. Easy to pack too. Put some in your kit. You never know! Stay safe from Washington state!
Best of luck to you. th-cam.com/video/qe162m7fuag/w-d-xo.html
I lived from Pasadena to San Bernardino. I remember 100 degrees plus. I would like to know if Arrowhead or Big Bear would allow boondocking. I know there is a camp ground up there. One of the big differences between west and east. East won’t cool down very much.
You might be interested in my upcoming vlog. Should be finished and uploaded on Tuesday.
Believe the national forests are closed here in socal.
@@Morongobill my videos are uploaded on a delay. SB National Forest was open back when I recorded this.
I do a lot of trips between LA and San Francisco. I’ve been enjoying Carpinteria, it’s in between Ventura and Santa Barbara.
Also Santa Cruz-Monterey.
Beautiful intro👌🏼safe travels Scott😃
Thanks Sunny
It looks like blocks beach,,,
My goal is to travel up and down the Pacific coast chasing whatever type of weather I feel like having.
Wow that is warm for 10:30pm!! Great video, thanks!
Thanks my friends!
Hey. In Southeast Florida on the coast some nights in July and August are brutal. The other night I was on the beach and with humidity the feels like was 96F at 2am. I had to get up and shower in the beach shower to cool off and run my engine AC on full blast for 20 minutes to cool off enough to go to back to sleep. Oddly enough, the temperature at night 200 miles inland, north and 150' higher is a much better mid 70s at night in August after midnight.
I know you're a west coaster and that you weren't probably asking for suggestions. That said, my vote is for the Flint hills and the wildlife refuge in Coffey County. : ) Parts of KS are beautiful.
Sounds good. I’m open to traveling anywhere but my finances will ultimately control how far I go.
Continue on with the Adventure 🤟🤙
Thanks dude ✌🏼
You were just about 4 weeks away from heading out of San Diego with a lot less heat along the way. August like the worst time to go typically. I'm in Montana and the air quality looks same here.
Haha. We vanlifers don’t really do anything that’s normal. Do we?
@@StaticCamperVan I really feel for you because when I first started vanning I got so frustrated mid August in San Diego, beaches so crowded, I just wanted to get away and I drove my POS van heading to Flagstaff, I made it to Prescott about a month later. I ended up getting stuck in Yuma with a blown head gasket. Luckily had friends there and the $650 to get picked off the two way one lane highway with 18 wheelers zipping by at 60mph in 110+ temps. I used ice out of my cooler to keep my dog calm and chill my cell phone that was overheating. Dangerous! Could have been a lot worse, could have broken down on a lonely treeless road I had been going down for miles without another vehicle in sight. If it would have been a flat tire at least I could keep engine running and AC. From then on I don't drive when the heat goes into the 100s until evening and night. Either that or cross before August or after, avoiding heatwaves, unless there is some weird cold front that comes through. This sometimes happens. I'm heading for Colorado hopefully tomorrow. Attending Gutted event.
Hope your new van is a bit more reliable. Have fun at the event. Colorado seems to be a lot of peoples favorite.
Grocery Outlet next to Planet SHOWER Fitness !!! Perfect.
How about Santa Cruz area? I love that part of California
Hey Scott..I was out on the coast in Oregon..got kinda chilly so I headed inland a bit. Then it got pretty warm inland..so I'm up in the mtns near Mt Hood. Nice in the daytime..bit chilly at night. Actually dusted off the buddy heater this morning..lol. Found some good dispersed camping up here 👍 Headn towards and to Bend..then back out to the West as it's gonna cool down rapidly at the higher elevations. Take care and perhaps I'll see you out on the road 😁
Are you going to Descend on Bend?
Dispersed camping sounds so good right now.
Bob Wells is in the Colorado forest this time of year. New Mexico mountains or maybe Flagstaff are other options for desert but cooler.
And as for elevation problems, just go up slower.
Great video! Enjoy your freedom!
I hope you’re going to see Dawn!!!
Hopefully our paths will cross.
4 bucks a gallon is cheap. In my country i pay 1 dollar 90 for 1 litre of diesel. Weirdos unit, lol.
We got some cooler temps here in Manitoba Canada now 👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟👍👍
Good for you. Hopefully your getting some relief on the wildfires too.
Ever been to Mansfield Texas? It’s before Brownsville Texas’s it’s a small fishing community. Look it up you might like it.
Thanks, I’ll give it a look
Beautiful intro. 😍
Thanks my friend ❤️
I'm at wind and sea beach now....2 weeks straight here. Will be very hard to return back to Phoenix.
We had a little rain yesterday here in the Seattle area. Very nice.... :-)
I bought a 5 pack sampler of Yellow Bird hot sauce on your recommendation and they’re all delicious 👍
Awesome 👍🏼
@@StaticCamperVan Also I’ve been getting Groundwork Ethiopia blend here in Portland. Best coffee ☕️
My favorite! ☕️
I really enjoyed your into... Very nice buddy
There is a price to nice weather and clean fresh air!😁 Safe travel!🙏
True ✌🏼
The beginning of this video was really beautiful. I used to watch the smog blow in from L.A. every day, slowly erasing the view of the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains as if they didn't exist. Have you ever spent time up around Pismo/San Luis Obispo/Morro Bay? They are lovely areas and might give you a change of scene while keeping cool. 🌞☕️🥦ᵛᶦˡᵉ ʷᵉᵉᵈ
The whole California coast is a favorite of mine. Broccoli not so much.
@@StaticCamperVan 🥦
Great share and video! THanks MUCH and glad you got to see firends and wonderful meal! Looked yummy! I know that area some, as brotherinlaw used to snowbird to Indio, and I have driven down to visit him. Stay cool if you can, and btw, gas is not far off at $3.78 at Fre Meyer:( Safe travels, and all the BEST to you! Cheers :)
16:22... Where are you heading???
Back to Washington State, Vancouver BC.

Haha, wasn’t a clue. I was drinking massive amounts of water.
I hope you will go to the East coast or mid west Colorado, Texas, New Orleans, Key West etc what do u think? You will enjoy more relaxing lifestyle and nice either mountain or ocean view 📸
Ultimately, my finances will determine how far I will be able to travel.
@@StaticCamperVan I totally understand but when U have a chance or save up then go I will support ur channel
@@StaticCamperVan it is FAR cheaper east of CA.
@@THENOBOHOBO I think you should visit north and South Lake Tahoe, Nevada city beautiful small town, Carson city etc.. Napa or Sonoma or Camel Beach sea etc
It’s ok to be spoiled on occasion. Enjoy.
Oregon coast is pretty nice right now.
Time to go back to San Diego! 🥰
I see Chromes sticker on your bottle! It's cool in Canada!
Come to Oregon, it's beautiful here 🚙🌲🌄
Just got back it was my fourth trip there in less than a year. I love that State and Washington too. Only thing that sucked kinda this last trip was the heatwave but was still awesome. It was hot like Denver but with a touch of humidity. Oregon is a beautiful State.
Where did you get mini swamp cooler? I don't see it on your AMZ page.
I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. There are less expensive options on Amazon.
@@StaticCamperVan Thanks, any you recommend?
Sorry, no. They are all fairly similar. This is the one I bought, but it’s overpriced: th-cam.com/video/2TcZzj8_PC4/w-d-xo.html
Hi. That oil looks like it’s ready for a change. It shouldn’t be black. 😉
Righty-O
I just got back from a trip to SE Oregon to visit my Dad. Took the 101 back up because my air conditioner wasn't working well enough for the I-5 Valley heat on the way down. Boy, the smoke was nasty all the way from east to west until I went over the coastal range. Finally quit coughing so I know I didn't pick up the Covid amongst the masklessness in the tiny town Dad lives in. ;)
That coast drive is so good!
Time to come to Florida. We have nicer weather in the fall. Always welcome!
It’s a possibility.
@@StaticCamperVan well come on then! I’m a great tour guide of the local area!!
Why & NO!
I just saw your post about leaving San Diego. From the Static Camper Van videos I've seen, you seem to prefer urban settings. But it you get a wild hair and want to experience perfect temperatures, the bonita playa, and and an amazingly different lifestyle, our offer to check out secret Baja still stands. Living in this "primitive" lifestyle makes us less and less inclined to venture back north, except occasionally for supplies!
Oh Hi! I appreciate your offer. And hopefully I can get down there someday. After some research, I am sorry to admit that I don’t trust my van for that trip.
It’s a dream trip though. I feel like the trip will happen at some point. Thanks for the encouragement!
Face the music Scott.... The PNW beckons! Nothing is finer than sipping a piping hot coffee on a drizzly, misty morning before work overlooking the ocean with snowcapped, semi- active volcano mountains at your back! 🏔️🐋.
Oh , and the birthplace of your favourite coffee brand ... starbucks! is worth a visit seeing how you love it sooo much!🤪🤣
The active volcano sells it!
Its good to see your videos, Scott. I hope you find happiness where ever you journey. Have you ever thought about sailing the seven seas? I am going to build the pocket cruiser by Wave Rover design and cast off in the near future. You should join me with your own pocket cruiser.
Sailing looks so cool. I’m a land lubber though.
Wave rover is an awesome boat.

You have a Fiat dude. Made in Italy I believe. Good luck. I have a Citroen Relay which is aka a Fiat Ducato aka a Dodge RAM 3500 van. 4 years old and the aircon condenser needs to be replaced at 700 bucks. Ouch
Sorry to hear about your troubles. This van is actually designed and built in Turkey by Tofas. But it’s a mix of Fiat, Ram and Jeep parts.
Enjoy your clips. Havent got around to see you describe your van . What model is it ?
Your channel reminds of the Bill Bixby character Bruce Banner from The Incredible Hulk. Banner was a traveler. Some would say he was a vagabond, traveling from town to town helping the helpless and the defenseless. Times were simpler back then.
For the record, I don’t turn into a monster when agitated.
@@StaticCamperVan Ha!
I love olives and they are a good snack! You can get sugar snap peas which are green and good for dip-
I am wondering which tortillas are your go to? I love them all. I am eating low carb these days and a local brand has a good one but they are much better heated.
I like coconut wraps too and they do not have to heat them!
I usually buy tortillas at Trader Joe’s. I have some dietary restrictions and most tortillas cause me trouble. TJ’s has a few options of tortillas that don’t contain added ingredients.

You should NOT travel north in Ca. Fire is EVERYWHERE and the reason you could not see that mountain is smoke. Ca is just not safe right now if you are anywhere in the mountains because fires keep breaking out here and there and they are raging with high winds. Just Bazaar!!! Certainly NOT normal!!!
