When Alan Rickman passed away in 2016, the New Yorker created a special comic square in his honor, featuring John McClane and one Harry Potter. The two are in a bar together sharing a toast. The caption reads: "Here's to the best damned antagonist a guy could ask for". Truer words were never spoken. RIP to the legend.
Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. The movie everyone watches at Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, only has 18 minutes dedicated to Christmas. In Die Hard, either one of the characters directly mentions Christmas or there is a visual representation of Christmas.
The trivia behind this movie is amazing . Bruce Willis was consider to be a joke to be cast in an action movie. The way the movie was shot changed action movies forever . Bruce lost some of his hearing due to the explosions and gun fire. Alan Rickman's first movie. The actor who played Karl was a world renown ballet dancer who's defection was made into a movie itself
Yup, I remember the talk of Willis leading up to this. They only saw him as a romcom kind of actor from the tv show Moonlighting he was in and nobody every thought he was "Action" material. This movie changed that completely 180 degrees.
And I'm glad that Yasmina is firmly in the camp of "Die Hard is a Christmas movie." It takes place on Christmas Eve, there's Christmas music in the soundtrack and Christmas decorations as set dressing, Christmas is referenced numerous times, and John McClane is there to reconcile with his wife *Holly.* But even more than that, the themes and vibes of the movie are actually very uplifting. It's about a man trying to overcome miraculous odds and good triumphing in the face of evil despite all obstacles. Tell me that doesn't capture the Christmas spirit.
Trivia: When Hans fell from the building, the look on Rickman's face was authentic. There was a countdown he was expecting before they released him for his fall, and the director went early, so that look was him being genuinely surprised at falling.
@@yasminareacts I know right. Hey, while I have you here, I know you get a lot of suggestions but if you can add Orphan Black to your viewing schedule I think it will become one of your top 5 shows ever. So different from anything else. Tatiana Maslany gives one of the greatest performances in television history. Incredibly underrated show. If you decide, don't read anything about it. Just dive in. Happy New Year!
Since Hans calls McClane "cowboy," John's choice of the name Roy is a likely reference to singing cowboy actor Roy Rogers, perhaps the least macho of the cowboy actors.
No one under 60 gets the reference. At the end when McClane says "Happy Trails Hans" that was a reference to the song of that name that Roy Rogers and his wife Dale Evans sang at the end of their TV show.
Reginald VelJohnson (Al Powell) and William Atherton (Richard Thornburg) were both in Ghostbusters. And VelJohnson played a Jail Guard in Ghostbusters.
I just go around from Die Hard reaction to Die Hard reaction pointing out that this is a Christmas movie because the bad guys think Christmas is about the presents, while the good guys learn that family, friends, and forgiveness are what really matters. Plus it ends in a snowstorm as reunited lovers reconnect. Christmas magic! Your reactions are always immensely charming. Have a great new year.
It's so hard to narrow down my recommendations to a small, focused few so that you aren't overwhelmed... but let's do: -The Fifth Element (the Sci-Fi super-fun action flick with heart starring Bruce Willis. Maybe even more fun than Die Hard?) and -Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (a top-2 Christmas action flick; a new noir starring Robert Downey Jr, among others - Val Kilmer, Larry Miller, Michelle Moynahan, Shannyn Sossamon, Corbin Bernsen - with an incredible script, fantastically written dialogue. Very funny. The movie that got RDJ the role of Iron Man, or so I've heard.)
Glad to catch your reaction to this Christmas classic. When the trailers for this showed in theaters most people laughed and the producers where worried about it's success because before this Bruce mostly did comedy most well known for his role in the show "Moonlighting". I'm going to recommend another Bruce Willis movie "The Last Boy Scout" (1991) I think you will really enjoy it.
I loved your reaction, it's definitely one of the best reactions to this movie that I've had the chance to see. Thank you Yasmina. Happy New Year and may 2025 bring you and your channels lots of success.

I liked the comment I saw on another reaction video: a heist movie where the only successful heist was a candy bar. Glad you finally watched this. Bruce Willis made some other fantastic movies I’d recommend: RED, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable are at the top of the list.
Let's Go ! , this is one of my favorite action movies of all time you definitely picked a great movie to watch to end the year with 🤘🔥, also in my opinion Die Hard is definitely without a shadow of a doubt a Christmas movie 😁😂🎄🎁
Omg Yasmina I am really glad you got a chance to see this movie it is awesome love your black nails and hair you look nice happy new years to you and best of luck to your 2025 😊
Hello Yasmina!😊I can't believe you are just watching this classic. I know you know a lot of the references from B99 and Jake. The first three Die Hard films are very good and worth reacting to for sure. Number four is a bit disappointing. Great reactions to this well made action film, Yasmina!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 You should see Alan Rickman in "Galaxy Quest" (1999).😉 Happy New Year, Yasmina!🥳🥳
Very glad you liked this. Can't wait until you watch / react to the 2nd and 3rd Die Hard movie. Unlike most sequels, theese are getting better. No. 4 is debateable, no. 5 is a waste of time.
I really enjoyed your reaction to this movie. Do you think you will react to more old movies like Die Hard? If so, I've got plenty of 80's movies to suggest.
It is undeniably a Christmas classic, but not a "Christmas movie" in the strict sense. Neither actual Jesus nor Santa is a character, and it isn't about the holiday itself, like in How The Grinch Stole Christmas (The 1966 TV special narrated by Boris Karloff, not the movie, which I haven't seen and most likely won't since it looks like warmed-over barf). Die Hard happens at Christmas so there is Christmas music and imagery, a Christmas party, and some sly winter references like the snowstorm of papers at the end. But, Trading Places, for example, has a Christmas party, a Santa suit, and Christmas music, but it is not a Christmas movie either, and not just because it carries over to New Year's Day. It isn't even a holiday movie. It just takes place with the backdrop of the holidays, so if you want Trading Places to be your Christmas movie then Merry Christmas, it's yours. But what is the great thing about not being a Christmas movie? Anyone can enjoy it, of course! Would you deny it? It is for everyone, be ye Christian, Jewish, Shinto, or otherwise. You don't need to celebrate Christmas or believe in the central tenet of the holiday of Christmas, the birth of the Christian savior, to be fully within the target audience of Die Hard. That's the difference.
You should watch the honest trailer for Die Hard Yas, it's great. Learned some cool things like this was Alan Rickman's very first movie. First four movies are all worth watching in my opinion.
WOW Did you really say McClane is better off with bare feet? Omg! (P.s Stuff Brooklyn 99) DIE HARD is not a Christmas Movie. DIE HARD is Thee Christmas Movie Ho-Ho-Ho!
This is not a christmas movie. Its heist movie that happens to take place at christmas time. You can remove every christmas reference and you would have the exact same movie, therefore christmas is not vital to the plot, therefore not a christmas movie.

In some traditions Christmas extends for 12 days after hence the song shifting it to almost a week into January.
4:10 I think, this is called the corporate yes-man-laugh. :D
Since Hans calls McClane "cowboy," John's choice of the name Roy is a likely reference to singing cowboy actor Roy Rogers, perhaps the least macho of the cowboy actors.
It's a line in the movie "I was always kind of partial to Roy Rogers actually."

Still an iconic movie of action genre.
