If you want to learn about North West geology, look at youtube videos from Nick Zentner / Central Washington U... he did 75 lectures this spring/ summer...

I hiked all those trails: Old Rag, Little Devil's Stairs, Catoctin. Indeed I climbed Old Rag about 45 times since 1981 when I first arrived in the US. Amazing to find out that the Old Rag granites are a billion years old. In related news, what caused the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, the first epicentered in Germantown, MD and the second in Orange, VA? Both of these are located squarely in the Piedmont. (I experienced both of these: the first one, at 5am was a single pulse where we were, which told me that (a) it was an earthquake, and (b) we were right on top of it. I called in in to the USGS, but they already knew about it).

Callan. you are very smart. but i have a hard time following your videos because you go so fast with so much technical info. i would appreciate if you would publish for the general public and firstly, slow down a bit and also just define and explain the terms and concepts you are covering. or, are these videos meant for advanced geology majors? even if the videos are for geology students or degreed individuals, as a director, I still suggest that you not rush what you are trying to say.
