Oh wow, this is awesome. I am writing my MSc thesis on BEC physics, and i saw this video. This is really cool to see. Question for you. You state the OD, are you using an on-resonant probe, but for an OD near 1, I assume you're detuned by a linewidth? Is this a parameter that you have added in the code?
We don't change the detuning of the probe based on OD, and we can still measure up to an OD of 3. Beyond that, so much light has been absorbed that we are limited by the bit-depth of our cameras, and the OD images become unreliable.
