Personally love how they completely changed the setting. The gaming market’s oversaturated with so many futuristic scifi shooters now a days. Absolutely dig the style change
What would be cool is if they release the sci fi setting in a future update, you have the same map on a technical level but it would look completely different. Maybe also cheap sci fi skin for each hero.

2:19 good LORD, having 6 slots per category would have been insane late game- and being able to buy upgrades out of order would have led to some really absurd strats
Even though the Cyberpunk aesthetic looks cool, it's too close to Overwatch. I can get why they decided to change it. Also the Neon lights likely would just add clutter to the visuals in a team fight and the new setting is a lot more unique.

Best thing Valve could've done was change the overall aesthetic. I'm glad they were smart to realize that making a futuristic hero shooter, when ALL other hero shooters are futuristic wouldn't do their game any favours, and opted for a 1930s occult aesthetic instead, it's immediately eycatching, and doesn't help that the characters received major design upgrades as well. Neon Prime genuinely looked overwhelmingly lame.

I actually liked the neon futuristic city more but I admit it wouldnt help the game distinguish from the competition and a change had to be made to make it more marketeable, Im glad they went for ~1920 setting as its original and sets it apart. Character wise I prefer the 1920 inpsired designs way more than the futuristic ones, except the ones that were left unchanged and still fit the steampunk/occult 1920 setting, Yamato seems to be left untouched from the alpha but she still fits well in the new design.

You can still see a lot of the DNA of the Asian setting in all the robotics in the game, from the walkers to the heroes like Bebop and Yamato especially. Yamato is straight Japanese (right?) but are those real kanji in the pre-alpha, or is it more of a fictional asian-ish language? I do wonder if this setting will still exist in some form as a second map. I don't think it looks bad at all - just a very different vibe and the Cursed Apple is far more unique in gaming. (Reading some of the comments here and I see that MOBAs are one-map games, I'm cool with that! I can see the immense level of detail and thought poured into every aspect of Deadlock's)
Glad i see many people appreciating the new art direction they took, because i'm abosolutely in love with and it's such a breath of fresh air among many other mainstream multiplayer games. Usually i see a lot of people shitting on the games graphics as if it's a final product when it's literally far from it's launch and you can clearly see a lot isn't polished and multiple characters will get a full redesign

So specifically talking about the map. To me this rural town they made is too grey. Nothing stands out. This makes me look at the map alot. They could have at least choose a modern route or went with a map that has a more bio shock feel instead of infinite. The problem right now is landmarks I think. For me I look at the map alot to figure where I'm at and where I want to go while if the map had landmarks I could visually know exactly where I am. I got 44 hours on the game and it's become easier to know but sometimes I still need to look at the map for information but to see why I'm not where I wanted to be and I blame that on how much gray is on the map. What do you think?
@kozumozu also this alpha skin will probably be available someday and it's an instant buy for me when it does way cool. (In the middle could have at least be keep the aim down sights animation) like what is cool on the alpha the walkers make less sense to me than in the alpha as well. Should be an organic monster or not be a spider golem idk probably just me.
Deadlock is the next big esport and im all for it, this game is great on its own but the fact that it fixed so many issues with mobas is just amazing, a lot of the reasons why i quit league of legends or valorant are simply fixed with Deadlock. I do have one kind of a big gripe with Deadlock though, the map is fucking huge, why is it so big, it takes 2 years to rotate to a lane
