I could swear you guys said you serviced the bull gear? If so why didn't you replace the idler gear then? It's a known wear item that should be replaced any time you have to service the bull gear.
Is there anything that I can do to try to avoid this situation? I have 600k on my 2015 d13 with only a six pack of injectors and overheads done on it a few times. I change the oil on it every 15,000 miles and try to keep the revs down. I'm hoping to make 1.2 million without any headwork or idler gear work how common is it for trucks to make it?
@@TruckYoo I started with a hotshot truck. Now have two of them and I purchased my first semi two months ago. (Cascadia) I'm looking to get 2 more by spring. For the trucks in the 15 to 25k range. What model/year would you look for? (Volvo with the DD engine seems to be your cup of tea.)

Hi i no this is old but i just bought a 2015 d13 and i swear some times only you here a rattling sound coming from that area of the engine. Every time i take it to the dealer you can never here it. Its being used now as an rv hauler for my trailer so not a lot of miles on it since i got it. They did over head and said bull gear is still tight.
Hello I have a 2013 Mack granite gu713 mp8 motor and they did an oil change and little metal balls came out in the oil would that be the idler gear thanks im advance didn’t feel any symptoms though

really there is not set price on damage like this till you open up the gear housing and inspect all damage and parts needed. any time the gear housing has to come off its expensive.
Definitely an underrated youtube channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge/experience.
Great video! Good to know that there are symptoms to look out for before a catastrophic failure!
