Brilliant! Your camera work is always spot on. I agree that this is way too much in materials and resources for one simple project. It also brought a lot of attention due to size and thus - it had to be worth it despite that. I love how you investigate and semi-preserve items from the water too! Another most excellent walk through!
In 95 having spent over a week walking the Somme battlefields, we decided to bag a few bonuses. Canadian memorial Vimy Ridge. Denied entry to La Coupole as the museum was under construction. So did the Blockhaus d' Eperlecques. Followed by V-1 site Siracourt. Unfortunately ran out of days & missed V-3 site Mimoyecques. Waiting to see what's downstairs at Eperlecques now.
Great content Tino.. I was waiting for one of you to step in an unseen hole under water or somehow fall & take a soaking... Looked like pretty treacherous footing.. Stay safe & Thank you.
The only Nazi missile larger than V2, which actually went further than just being a design drawings, was the first in the world ICBM A9/A10 developed until 1943, when all effort and resources were redirected to more realistic goals. The program restarted in 1944, but it was too late, platform never become operational. Perhaps these oversized bunkers were built with A9/A10 in mind.
Tino....ever since you started covering these two sites, I've often wondered why the Allies never were able to get Albert Speer to reveal the true purpose of these buildings and the surrounding sites. I know you will find out.....and what is the prognosis of your Achilles heel?
Speer was not involved in the ultra secret "O.N." Organisation Nebulus. O.N. was a subpart of SD even beyond Himmlers authority, the leading person of ON was Reinhard Heydrich who did not die in Prague his dead in hospital was a cover story. He was Reichsführer SD-ON.
Giday from NZ. Quick idea on the fly. I would hazzard a guess that A, Spear knew and obfuscated to tie up intelligence resources? B, He was in on an expensive joke that soaked up allied bombs and didn't have the heart to tell them. C, Albert didn't know the full picture of its purpose or didn't care by that stage as he was under no illusion the was to be lost and had his concerns elsewhere. Would be great to pour over the transcripts of the interviews if they still not under lock and key?
50:08 This is what remains when the softer coniferous wood rots and the harder branch wood remains. This used to be a passive trunk. And these were the branches that grew from it. You often find them on or in rivers.
i imagine as with any mining, it makes perfect sense as you advance forward you place some timbers above you in case of collapse just as you can still see today in the old mines like Cerro Gordo and the hundreds of old mines across the US being explored today, hundreds of years of mining has changed very little what i do find intreaging is the completed tunnel with its concrete block finish, and the apurtures for new tunnels, with a wall of rock not yet curved out, and then a small rectangular entrence into a new larger tunnel, lots of unfinished systems, just seems an odd way to tunnel i suspect as the tunnels moved forward, a large wooden former would be errected so as the block work advanced behind, the new tunnel entrances would mark the layout for the next tunnels, rails placed so that trains and carts can be brought in, loaded and remove the spoil from the new tunnels left and right of the main tunnel, but i just don't quite get the small rectangular entries, unless the tunnel was dug from the other side, and this entry became a joining tunnel i think at 22:00 on i understand the construction a little better, it seems like they dug a small rectangular passage, this then opens to full width and the concrete walls are built extending forward, then as you begin to carve out above you place the beams to build a floor, extent the concrete over head over a wooden former and keep advancing, pretty clever and fairly straight forward i can't help but think of the poor souls who dug this out, probably by hand too PS Tino if that is lime, its not a good habitat for your bat friends, thanks for sharing and thanks to those chaps granting you permission
The cross beams were deck beams which allowed the upper part of the tunnel to be worked first, then removed. The steel hangers are to support utilities.....
Rockets for short range nuclear weapons? Or rockets for N Stuff? This would be the only reason I can think of, since its construction was still going toward the end of the war, suggesting a Hail Mary last attempt at stopping the war in its tracks, suggesting it had to be something very big.
Kammler was only responsible for the secret bases and underground buildings NOT FOR THE RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY. He was Dr. construction engineer not physicist or chemist AND he was not a super high O.N. officer. He was Obergruppenführer (1 star General) BUT NOT Oberst-Gruppenführer = 3 star General! (His boss was Reichsführer SD-O.N. Reinhard Heydrich!) He lived well in total secrecy and build up the Organisation Nebulus after the hand grande attack in Prague. He did not die. And Oberstgruppenführer SD and ON were for example Dr. Bosacker from Reichspost who also gave many orders to Kammler! Kammler was a further small wheel in the SD-ON work of gears.
Well if it was so much larger than the A4 (V2) rocket then that would suggest that they could have been thinking of the A10 booster and A9 winged rocket, and then there was the Silverbird concept as well.
Missed the premier on this one, was on a 250 bike ride trying to get a new bike for another disabled biker. I found him a new bike, then he says he didn't get the cash like he was promised, so ended up having to pay for it as well after checking it all over. Still not got the bike.. hope to pick it up Saturday, well couldn't ride two bike at once could I? Think he's getting me a lift and he'll be asking me to ride it home for him as he hasn't ridden for 10 years and doubt he'll cope on the M25 and M40. I did tell him to rent a van, but doubt he will.... As the saying goes a friend in need is a PAIN IN THE NECK! At least he gave me the cash back.... Just as well he did as I would have sold it on and doubled my money easily.
Hi mate, I know I mentioned this about two weeks ago. But again a lot of the audio was impossible to hear or understand. Your mic was fine ?? mostly but the people you were with was non intelligible due to echoes etc and detracts, and would be better without them as such sadly.if they were micd up too it would have been so much better as their input was missing . It would be great to have an audible complete vlog. Please as I love your work, others must be heard too whilst with you. Thanks and with great respect Grant from Australia. I know it's hard in some places re audio but Omni directional mics would be awesome,or is it unidirectional? Anyway the ones that pick up from direct not indirect sounds and directions
would you build a house on that chalky rock ? . Imagine some mighty rocket engines vibration shaking the rocks nearby ! Maybe it seemed a bit more solid when it was freshly dug , but it now has rising damp and falling logs . No bats , no wonder , Interesting to see the developing military engineering and the compromises . But it is sketchy as heck ., you needed a Ned Kelly suit I reckon ! If these sites were actually constructed for the reasons given and engineered just to withstand aerial bombing by the RAF, don't you think they're over engineered? Infantry soldiers dug in on the frontline are subjected to all manner of artillery and aerial bombardments and survive unscathed using far less sophisticated trenches than these massive concrete structures. These look like early atomic bunkers in my opinion.

Yes they do, but still classified as Top Secret.
