Fear of missing out: the name alone sounds like a trap
One theory I've heard is that the name was picked so that searches for "MTG FOMO" will have this card appear before any article, thus obfuscating them.

Also, Fear of Missing Out is a profound fear for people raised in a bad, constricting religious context. They're taught negatively, as opposed to instructively, effectively teaching them "your righteousness is determined by what you don't do". So, they grow up understanding the best of evil and the worst of goodness. They wouldn't be afraid of missing out on what's bad for them if they were properly taught or allowed to learn for themselves what the consequences were.
It could also be about the kid who has to go to bed early, but can hear the party going from their bed. . . or people who think they're not doing all they can in life. I imagine at least one of these is what they're going for in the art--the faces appear to represent varying forms of existential dread.
So I wasn't raised in a religious household but was raised in a conservative british one and your description here has hit me like a bit of a lightning bolt. Thank you! Things make a bit more sense now.
Or a magic the gathering player who can't afford to buy into a 5th standard set because they need to make rent.

Wow that is actually a really interesting observation. I grew up in a very religious household. I never got to go to friends parties cuz it was always a sat night sleepover or on a Sunday. The very few I got to go to, I had to go to bed early, wasn't allowed to have soda, and was only allowed to have a little bit of the food because my parents were very restrictive with what I ate and drank. I could hear all my friends staying up late enjoying themselves without me and would be picked up super early in the morning before any of them woke up. I eventually stopped getting invited to things and had to listen to them all talk about the fun things they all did together. FOMO has genuinely affected me deeply for a long time, and it's anxiety based around being overly sheltered and protected as a kid, and also abandonment type issues.
There's already a chainsaw creature in New Capenna and a chainsaw equipment in Crimson Vow, and now that I look it up in the art tags on Scryfall, a probably Ikoria-based chainsaw creature in C20. If someone's mad about chainsaws in the main Magic setting, they're years too late.
I think the Imperium dudes from 40K had Chainsaw-guns too, IIRC.
This is the first time I realized that Cursed Recording kills YOU and not your opponent. I’ve seen quite a few content creators get that wrong, and I also misread it.

I do like the vibes of both of those sets though the transition is not easy to make to say the least. Plus I find some of artworks absolutely incredible, like "Early Winter", "Twitching Doll" or that alternate version of Salvation Swan. Those artists are the real MVPs.
I have to say that My good old Deranged hermit pal would love that comfy Oakhollow village. I hope Dennis Moore will never find that white Cagliostro Castle one though, 100% sure no one will get the first reference especially if your neither British, neither a boomer! Cheers man
On one hand, I am excited about this set. On the other hand, fatigue has definitely set in. That feeling of fatigue is getting worse and worse with each release.

I absolutely love the theme of these two sets, especially since duskmourne is coming out around the spooky season.
Enduring Tenacity + Zur, Eternal Schemer
You can reanimate the Snake again and again into a Creature
And as Creature, it has Lifelink and Deathtouch
love it! to be fair there's gonna be a lot of great homes for that snake, but zur is definitely one!
I think one thing to emphasize with Duskmourne is that the set is still inundated with supernatural things and magical effects. If anything, it feels like it's going to have more actual magical things than Neon Dynasty and New Capenna
I like the design aspect of the Flying counter for Salvation Swan. Seems like an upside to new players (and can be) while actually being a stop on any infinite shenanigans with changelings and other non-flying birds since the blink is an enter trigger not a cast trigger.
FOMO is a real thing for some, can be as big a problem as fear of heights. Love the content, keep up the great work!
You all see animal tribal in the bloomborrow set, all I see is more and more changeling support. And sir that is a Topiary Stomper that creates Urza Lands, not to mention the plethra of land types we have access to in standard.
The token lands are all basic land types, but they aren't *every land type* like the commander from the Tricky Terrain deck makes.
That said, ramping into a full power Drag to the Bottom with a 6/5 body on layaway is still pretty cool.

And I think you hit the nail on the head with Mono B devotion. Forget trying to get the cast trigger, just animate dead the dude.
Duskmourn got the Ghostbusters guns and ghost hunter TV series feel and art, so I can’t take it as a horror like Eldrazi Lovecraftian horror.

If 6 creatures die at once to a board wipe you only get 1 rev counter
When Foundations drops, you'll be able to go Elves on T1, impending Overlord of the Hauntwoods on T2, and then have five mana on turn 3 plus a 6/5 cooking. Don't know where you go from there but that's neat. Day of Judgment will also put a little pressure on Sunfall too and might make dies triggers better.
If there's a decent reanimation option in Duskmourn (and it seems likely) then Doomsday Excruciator will be a bomb in limited since the deck destruction is only on cast not on enter. There's better targets in constructed but I'm definitely not saying no to a 6/6 flyer that gives me an extra card each turn.
Only reanimator spell i know that will actiavte doomsday's effect is Invasion of Ahmonket
FoMO seems like it could be really cool in a RG aggro deck, using stuff like Sentinel of the Nameless City, Goldvien Hydra, Samut to have multiple creatures ready for your second combat. It would be really nice to have a bit more generic artifact synergy in the colours besides treasures to get the most out of your map token but I could see this being a neat stompy list.
On Duskmourne's flavour: I think it looks like stranger things because stranger things looks like a pastiche of 80s horror. I see as much John Carpenter and Sam Raimi and Wes Craven and in fact much more than I see actual stranger things which is slightly more cosmic in its horror. I think people are getting worked up over it because of the secret lair, but I guarantee you the designers have been watching a lot of great horror movies from the 70s and 80s.
Soooo... what happened to the "beast" type??? is it retired?
What makes you think that? We just got a bunch of Beasts in OTJ (including Loot and Fortune), and DSK will have Beasts as the friendly-ish "beasties" (Toby makes one).

Screaming Nemesis looks like it's gonna be really good in mono red aggro. Especially as we see lifegain matters cards being printed in the set too. A lot of the other cards look cool too.
Might of the meek is like a cross between charge through and defiant strike, but it's red :D

When you convoke something, the creatures you tap can pay for the colored mana cost as well, assuming they're of that color.
Ive not been as hyped for Bloom as everyone else i know. Never read Redwall. Cute small animals are cute and all that but eh not my thing. Now Duskmourn?? Im ready for some body horror, haunted house and creepy creatures :3 so hyped for that set. Hope it lands well
i love the lore that i've heard. i think the eighties flavor, with like TVs and chainsaws, isn't very "magic" but neither was cyberpunk, neither was prohibition era, or outlaws, to say nothing of universes beyond. I DON'T WANT A CHAINSAW IN MAGIC!

I miss blocks. It's a shame that as soon as we're presented to a new plane, we're already gone. Three sets would properly allow one to build decks more steeped in the flavor and mechanics of a plane. As it stands, it'd be very unlikely that one could make very interesting or competitive decks using only/mostly cards from one plane.

They're changing it to "enters" with Bloomburrow. The idea is it makes cards less wordy, but I could definitely see a new player being like "when it enters what"

Bloomburrow's tribal cards seem like they'll be made significantly better when Lorwyn 2 drops, *assuming* that return to Lorwyn has changelings.
Slickshot showoff is a bird wizard birdemic aggro deck on the way.
Not that shroud has been forgotten about, but Nowhere to Run might make it more relevant in some commander pods. Cool card though!

The Swan is actually quite different than resto angel. The blink target comes back at end of turn, so you can't flash it in and double block. It alos gives flying token after blink, which is good for offensive, but bad for value as you can't blink it again. I am a big fan of blink-value decks, but I am not sure what is the best use of the swan yet.

Both these sets look awesome. And I love OTJ. Cool sets this year. I think it's cool when sets are weird and seem like unlikely decisions for magic.

I said it many times, and been many times wrong. But does those white and black village finally enable the shapeshifters party deck?
Bloomburrow might be the magic set that can lure my kids into this mess. I really hope they do the art and set real good in it's own vaccum! Playing with only animal fantasy settings feels like true magic.
Swan puts a flying counter on the creature it blinks, so it can only blink a creature once.
Early Winter is exactly what Black Decks have been looking for ever since OTJ because High Noon is a major issue against Black Decks, which lack Enchantment Removal Options.
Of course, there will be the "wise guy" that would say this card is bad because it's expensive. But do I need to remind them that this Floodgate will not let you cast more than 1 Spell per turn anyway, so it wouldn't matter in the situation this card was made for (which is getting rid of Floodgates like High Noon)

I feel doomsday excruciator's only deck in standsrd RN is a "invasion of ahmonket reanimator" deck. Invasion of ahmonket is special because of the way it is worded + battle permanent mechanics; but at the end of the day is that you CAN scam doomsday out using invasion of ahmonket and still satisfy the "if it was cast" requirement. I will be play testing this card

Chainsaw only gets 1 counter per instance of creatures dying. So, if you play it, kill a creature, and then get wrathed, even a full board will only leave youe chainsaw with 2 counters :/

it bothers me that the sunshower druid just says enters, because what enters are they refering to enters the battlefield? enters the graveyard? enters combat? enters the room? im mean im sure it means enters the battlefield but it could locicly mean when it enters the graveyard so i could argue with someone that when it enters play and dies i get to gain life and give a counter to something.

How does twitching doll even work in the rules? It doesn’t say “for each counter that WAS on it” since sacrificing it was a part of the cost, wouldn’t there be no counters on it by the time the ability resolves?
A creature's dying effect sees itself as well as other creatures dying, and therefore knows how many counters are on it when it dies.
It's the same ruling as the card Fling. Part of Fling's casting cost is to sac a creature and the ability deals damage equal to creature's power. If the sacc'd creature's P/T was different from its original, Fling uses the last known info (so right before it was sacc'd). This means if a 2/2 creature with 3 +1/+1 counters on it (making it a 5/5) was sacc'd, Fling does 5 damage.
The key concept is "last known information". Twitching Doll counts the number of counters as it was sacc'd and that is it's last known info.

I have a bad feeling that this set is going to be creature type focused and have very little impact on standard. I just don't see them printing powerful enough creatures to make a tribal deck competitive. They will fear how they will impact commander

What am I missing about the Wandering Ambusher though? She's become my favorite, but isnt this one kinda too expensive? Its to justify the convoke I suppose, but tbh I rather she didnt have that and instead gave hexproof to all other creatures regardless of if theyre tapped or not. Sigarda is a 4 cost 4/4 flyer that gives hexproof to all other permanents, btw.
I think the design intent is more as a surprise protection piece. Sigarda needs to already be on the board which just means she gets targeted first. But if there's a 'wait until I untap' piece on your board and they try spot removal you can use that piece to convoke her and protect it especially if the opponent having blockers means you've had to keep back some of your early chumps because there wasn't a good attack line.
I still don't think she's *great*, mind you, but I can see where she's expected to slot in especially if there's other cards to make a white flash/reactive deck more feasible. You can also drop her as early as turn three but I don't think she has enough offensive punch to be worth running that line even if it's open to you (skrelv on one, resolute reinforcements on two, can convoke her in on three with keeping skrelv open to protect her and be protected in turn by her when it taps to ward)

Fear of Missing Out is a cool card, but its base stats are too pushed for red. A 2mana 2/3 should be a green statline or have two colours in the mana cost. Red should be restricted to 2/2 for 2 unless it has some drawback in my opinion.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure we’ve seen technology comparable to chainsaws before, but i am bothered by contemporary looking sneakers in the art.

As far the ravenous squirrel goes it a open house promo i would say it not going to be standard legal the last four open house haven't not been standard legal but have tied to the set in some way and with the retro frame like it has there. So like I say before it's must like not going to be standard legal.
The flavor for Duskmourn is, I'll admit, pretty awesome.
