Generally, it's so interesting to learn about other cultures - especially those with which we have some connections (for instance because of our ancestors), but not only those. Generally about various countries, societies, their culture, history, cuisines, traditions etc., so to be interested in the world. And they seem not to be interested at all.

What makes me angry is when they say "I am 100% Polish" or "my father is 100% Polish", but for 4 generations they were all born in the US, they don't speak Polish, from Polish culture the only thing they can mention is vodka... They are Americans whose great-great-great-grandfather was born in Poland, but that doesn't make them Polish. PS: I once came across a statement that in studies, in order to say that someone is "from here", their father must have been born in a given place. So if I moved to Warsaw, my grandchildren will be Varsovians in studies of the origins of the population. My grandson is half Polish half British, my daughter and I speak to him in Polish but he is surrounded by Brits everywhere and he says that his language is English 😞 So I keep buying him Polish literature and cartoons to make him more interested in our culture and 1/2 of his heritage. But believe me it’s not easy, especially that he is more keen to learn Spanish since his step-grandfather (my husband) is Spanish 😉
what can i say? Most Polish ancestors, that came here about 100 years ago, looking for a better life. Most of them were ashkenazi jews, that lived in the south-estern parts of elden Poland. They seek refuge from prejudice and hostility. Worked in harsh industrial conditions. Another wave of Polish immigrants was from between world wars 1 & 2. They lived in poor districts in cities like Chicago, Cheektowaga, Warren, Buffalo.. You should watch animated movie "American Pop" from 1981. Polish descendants that live today in the US, don't care about their past. Sorry for my bad english.
Wątpię by to śmieszyło i ciekawiło obcokrajowca tak jak Polaków. By rozumieć ten serial trzeba wiedzieć jak wygląda życie w Polsce i dobrze znać satyre polski.
