    Recently got out my grandfather’s Rocket that I have. Cleaned and lubed it. Along with 2 Silkcast and Supremes. Amazing how smooth these reels are after all these years. BTW, one of the Supremes is the reel that I was taught how to cast with when I was a kid. (62 years old) I was able to date the Supremes to somewhere between 1953 and 1961. Grandfather bought one for himself and one for my Dad.
    Keep making the videos. Love watching them!

    Dennis you’re a legend!! I picked up a rocket the other day and after disassembly and a clean and service I got to the stage of reassembling the drags and main gear as I found them however they just didn’t seem right, now after watching your video I could see the correct way to assemble them, it would seem someone before me put the main gear in upside down...?? Thanks again you have solved the problem...Paul Sydney Australia

    Thank you for doing these videos. After watching this one I decided to add a 1355 Rocket to my small Pflueger collection. Mine is about as close to new as you are going to find and came with the manual. After a complete disassembly and lube, it was put onto a 6`6" Ugly stik casting rod and it has gone fishing with me the last few times, including this morning. It has been a little more finicky to get adjusted for casting compared to the other Pfluegers, but it looks like I`ve about got it now, with 35 yd casts without backlash becoming normal. Without your tutelage, this process would have been much more difficult. Thanks

    Hi Dennis. I have a 1355 Rocket. I took it apart just for maint per this 1375 video. When reassembling my (Grandmother's old reel!), I put the anti-reverse gear in with the same orientation as shown in this vid. At next use, I noticed the anti-reverse wasn't locking up, so I just switched rods and kept fishing. This morning, I opened the reel up again while following this video and assumed the orientation of the gear couldn't have been the problem. Well, after opening & closing it several times tinkering with it to no avail, I finally decided to flip the lock gear and Voila! I don't know if that's a difference between the 1355 and the 1375, or, ummm...perhaps not MY mistake? Regardless, your vids are typically very informative, helpful and appreciated. Kind regards, Mike.

      Not sure. I will check to see if I can find comparative schematics for the models. This is why I suggest that pictures help. Some reels mount from the left and some from the right. Pictures at critical points in the disassembly will confirm an orientation when it is time for reassembly. Thanks for the note - Dennis

    The Penn 6-155 washer, used in the Beachmasters (and others..) is an almost exact replacement for the Rocket originals. The reel uses only two washers as you showed in this video, one inside the main gear cavity and the other on the outside. The Penn washers are an exact fit for the gear post, but the outer diameter is just a smidge too big for the main drive gear cavity. Reducing the outer diameter a couple tenths of a millimeter or so using a few swipes on 200 grit sandpaper and it drops right in. The outside washer requires no adjustment.

      Thanks - that's good to know. You may be able to get by with he 710 Spinfisher drag, which is smaller, or perhaps trim down the 155

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can only find replacement parts for these through used equipment sellers, like eBay. There is no longer manufacturer support for the reels. Also check for donor reels at yard sales, clean markets, etc. - Dennis

    Hi, thank you for the video. It is very informative and useful. Do you happen to know what reel first included the star drag system?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that a Pflueger specific questions or are you asking when the first star drag system was introduced. I do not know what the first Pflueger star drag reel was. I do know that Julius Von Hofe is generally credited with the introduction of a star drag system. He introduced the set up on his B-Ocean reel in the early 1900's. I would guess you would need to look at Pflueger reels in the 1930's or 40's to find their first star drag model. Both the Von Hofe (Frederick) and the Pflueger (Ernest) families were involved in fishing reel manufacturing going back into the late 1800's. - Thanks for asking - Dennis

    • @dustincmills
      @dustincmills 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2ndChanceTackle Oh no, not Pflueger specific, I should have been more clear in my original question. I apologize for that. You have given me something to look into today, thanks! I appreciate your time and the information you have shared. All the best!

    Thanks for Good Info. I acquired pflueger Bond 2000 reel by way of purchasing rod that it was on- Really just after rod- It has burgandy bake lite side plates- The reel looks on excellent condition as though it's been sitting for many years appears in need of lube & service but drags are either stuck or wore out & bsit ckicker nit ckicking - Are parts available for these reels? How do they stack up to Penn reels of similar size (was thinking maybe close to P109)- are they not worth fooling with or should maybe just throw it junk pile - Always appreciate your videos - thnx. jack

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally parts are not available for this reel. The reel is a solid performerer and you should be able to restore it to good working order. If the drags are stuck and you cannot find replacements, you may be able to substitute them by ordering by size. there are some sites like Smoothdrag.com that sell drag washers by dimensions, so you may be able to find replacements. The reel is similar in quality and performance to the Penn peer 109 - Dennis

    Awesome! Love your videos! Super helpful! Just picked up a lot of 5 reels, among which are a Penn 309 and a Pflueger Capital 1989! The Penn is an easy clean thanks to you! But i cant really find anything on this Pflueger Capital 1989 other than its probably from the 40s. Do you happen to have one you could show how to take apart?

      I did find this video that seems to be one of the only one showing how to open it up! I had kinda tried it before but it wasnt doing anything so figured it was something else.. this confirmed it was a take down pin! Let it soak in some penetrating oil for a bit, and it finally came apart! Waiting for your vid to take the gears apart tho! :D

      There are no "reliable" sources, so check the used market, like Ebay - The parts are no longer available from distributors and the like. You may need to buy a donor reel to get the parts you need - Dennis
