I metal detect a ski lodge by my brothers in the summer months. We have our best finds on the edge of the parking area. People dress and undress from their ski gear at their cars, and then the lodge scrapes the snow off periodically to the sides of the lot. People drop a lot of coins, keys, etc.. We locate where it was scraped to and find lots. Another is the paths going up to the lodge, and where they stop to get a hot drink, or where the restrooms are. Well good luck and happy hunting.
That's really cool. Someone put alot of time and a little money into build that run. Thanks for showing us and taking us on another Not Thursday adventure. Take care and be safe.
Hey Stealth Diggers ( Charlie ) man that was pretty cool , finding the tow line was sweeeeet , we like to hunt the old ski hills here , good place to find some silver enjoyed the video , stay safe my friend ( BIG thumbs up from Alaska )
That tow line was in great shape! I have worked at a few ski areas and I have always heard that you can hunt under the lifts after closing day. They are usually on National Forest property so, I don't think you need permission. There are always things lost under the chair lifts. Then, check the runs, too. It was awesome to see an old ski hill. Many big ski resorts started that way.
Its Thursday but I thought I'd watch this anyway lol. I still chuckle at the sight of the car or whats left of it. The find of the day was definitely the tow rope, that was an amazing find. Take care my friend, see you later Mary-Ellen LFOD
Absolutely Beautiful country! Thank you for showing us this. Keep Digging up the History! Live Free or Die! Also please enjoy your Not Thursday! !!!!!!!
At the bottom there should be some type of structure (lodge) where the skiers could take a break and get warmed up in ... they also usually have a chimney for heat and ambience... that is where you would find things ...
man that low lying area looked awesome to swing in! thanks for sharing bud! sure does look like a great area to really pound sometime, like you said, its colonial land before the ski area! bet theres gotta be some great relics and coins out there!! man wished i lived out there! lol see ya on the next one HH #SDN
I was a kid a kid in Weare we had 2 ski tows one just off down town the other was on lake Hoarse the one down town had 2 ropes the one on the right had a model A chassis and was run in 1st gear for novices the one on left one had a chevy and run in 2nd gear sum times you went up hill faster than going down haha. My dad was an intructor in the 30's I learned at locks hill just over the line in Amesbury . it was there since I believe the late 30's hope you can check out the ones in Weare. thanks for your vids
That was cool. I try and imagine what that area would have been like during it's hay day. Back then people made their own fun but today they just pick up their ipad or whatever. Enjoyed the adventure DC :)))
Geez, was that line made of hemp ? It didn't look like a rusty cable. If it were natural fiber that's incredible it hasn't rotted away. Grab that for magnet fishing. But, I guess a length of that would weigh a couple hundred pounds. I'm surprised you didn't find lift tickets, some were actual reusable metal safety pins with numbers stamped on them. That and locker keys, broken boot and ski clips. And of course the old stand-by buttons, zippers and odd assortment of Lincoln memorial pennies along with a few spoons used to stir hot cocoa. But, I guess they used those plastic spoon, or swizzle stick tiny straws by then.
In derry nh there is a shi jump and hill behind the old parkland hospital..... I went there as a kid In the late 70s to early 80s to go in sledding.... Would love to see it now. The shi jump was there I'm the 80s.....
It so happens that we had a similiar ski run here in Colorado, but instead of being powered by an old falcon, it was powered by a flock of pigeons. When his mother took little Johnny to the slope, he refused to grab the tow line. When asked why, little Johnny replied, "Gee mom. I don't want to be pigeon 'towed'." True story. - SB
Hi Charlie, Thank you for the stroll through the woods. Amazing history indeed and finding the wrope. It didn't look the old either. I can't walk through the woods anymore but this allows me to... Thank you 🥄😊
Love seeing this kind of old stuff sitting out the woods, virtually untouched. I might have to do a photo series going around to some of the old ski areas out here in NH.
That's a tripod? Holy crap, all these months I've been thinking it was some sort of marital aid. I suppose it could be though.... Sorry I'm late to the party, my computer died a few days ago. Something I know you're familiar with.
You know what always surprises me? You talked about how you can find clad just about anywhere, I've got a couple old field permissions and lots of times I'll cut into the woods surrounding the field just to see. So I'll go along and get 0 signals and then a good high repeatable tone out of no where. Every friggin time it's an old square nail. Those things show up out in the middle of no where.
This was a fun little caper in the woods Charlie. We always went up to Snoqualmie Pass, Washington in the winter for our snow fun, they had rope tows and regular ski lifts, as it is a big ski resort. It was not far from our place and we always had lots of snow. Some years four or five feet of the stuff. I love this backyard version of a rope tow, and I'll bet there are folks who have plenty of fond memories using it, those many years ago. Too bad you got skunked on finding anything, but it is better than a nail in your foot. That rope looked like a great find, and since it hasn't rotted away it is likely to be made out of hemp. Hemp rope is some of the finest rope ever made and was used on sailing vessels and machines of every kind, because of its durability under harsh conditions. You might want to salvage it for the museum as well as one of the old wheel rims to hang it on. Add pictures of the tow line from the old days if you can find some, and take some pictures from now and put a bit of it on display. I think folks would find it interesting. The things you do for your local historical museum are awesome. Every little bit tells a historical story and paints a wonderful picture of your area. Thanks Charlie for sharing, yet another great Not Thursday. I always look forward to seeing your next adventure.
@@Stealthdiggers I'm amazed it's still there Charlie, tho when I think about it, it would probably last in the dirt longer than hemp. Old nylon rope can be pretty nasty on the hands, so I feel sorry for those kids grabbing that tow rope. It can mess up gloves pretty quickly if it has become frayed at all. My hubby got some from a deep sea fishing buddy of his once and it would take your hide off it had become so rough. It was great for putting tension on the tree when he was removing some old tree's from off our place tho. The stuff was tough.
do you ever watch the yt channel gone with the wynns? They're a different kind of channel than your topic, but they did a recent video about great gifts to buy travelers. One of the items was a tripod they really like. Been thinking of checking it out myself. They said they have went thru a bunch of the same tripods you are using this year, so they started looking for a different kind. That was crazy though about the falcon and finding the tow line. Wow
Well you know Charlie ,maybe you should bring a fishing pole and go for some brook trout and have a nice lunch , funny you mentioned the snow fall i remember the Bing Crosby movies about ski resorts in NH ,still looks beautiful around there
Hi Charlie, from Australia. Love the way you take the time to explain they why's and wherefore's.Would it be possible for you to do a Not Thursday and explain American coins.Other diggers talk about 'stinkin lincolns'- standing, walking, seated figures, matron head ,barber you get my drift.VERY confusing for non USA. Also when you talk about buttons Dandy, tom? back. Where I live in Australia is at 780 metres forest an snow too,it was part of the Australian gold rush. Where our house stands used to be a 'Pub' (Bar) from 1901 to 1930 when it burnt down we find lots of stuff, every time we dig the soil.Love watching you guys ,it would help a great deal if I knew what you are talking about some times.Like me saying 'two bob'(two shillings ) would you understand? Love to you All Eileen
Cool little Not Thursday hunt Charlie. I've really enjoyed them. I hope Jen is doing ok, we haven't seen much of her, but I know there are times when she's probably tired of being filmed. I hope ya'll are staying warm up there.
I did enjoy your adventure Charlie, I've never seen a ski run but through this video I can imagine what it looked like. I had to giggle at the thought of the car running it, but it made sense as it was the easiest way to get an engine up the slope. Thank you for an enjoyable NT video Charlie. Take care my friend, Mary-Ellen LFOD
Charlie one day in the continuum whilst going up the hill your going to run into two people's one's going be a fella named Jack and of course the other named Jill what ever you do don't ask about the bucket !!!, Thanks for fun Not Thursday!!!
Well, that is a big bullet you found there Charlie! I found an old 303 round in my front yard the other day, from 1943! It is still live just like the one you just found. Any idea what caliber yours is? Almost looks like a 338. I love the ski hill remains, cool how they used the old Falcon to run the ski lift. Thanks for uploading Charlie.
That was weird you didn't even find any clad. Maybe because it was used a short period of time? Still somebody should have dropped something maybe it's already been detected
I’ve detected a lot of chair lines and the majority of finds are where people load and unload. I’m surprised you didn’t find any clad or buttons or even some hardware from skis. Huh
Charlie, I enjoy every Not Thursday. Sorta a mini vacation for me. Thank you Charlie.
Im glad Denise, we hope your doing well
Nice ride!
Oh yes!
To fix your tripod- if the socket isn't cracked, try dunking the socket in some boiling water for about 30 seconds and squeezing it back tight.
Thank you that is a great tip but it did actually crack......had to replace it
The old Falcon Run. Would be cool if there were pictures from there during its years of operation.
Yes it would Kevin, im still searching for them

Sounds like a great approach to your detecting location John
That's really cool. Someone put alot of time and a little money into build that run. Thanks for showing us and taking us on another Not Thursday adventure. Take care and be safe.
They sure did, it must have been so cool back then

At the bottom there should be some type of structure (lodge) where the skiers could take a break and get warmed up in ... they also usually have a chimney for heat and ambience... that is where you would find things ...
There was no structure at the bottom ever, this info comes directly from the man who was in charge of the ski program
Interesting!
Free Detecting Pass, phew !
Public ski hill near me still in operation, more nothing like you did ?
Cool ! hit that public place

This was a very small private run Danny, and the line was heavy duty plastic
Use it to tow Keeb's Jeep outta da mud. LOL
That is some awesome history Charlie. Where there is a will there is a way.
Roger that Bill
Charlie what about the parking lot
There was no specific parking lot John, this was a very private run
In derry nh there is a shi jump and hill behind the old parkland hospital..... I went there as a kid In the late 70s to early 80s to go in sledding.... Would love to see it now. The shi jump was there I'm the 80s.....

Bill you are a wealth of information....
Looks like someone beat you to it Charlie. You would think you would have found a few zipper pulls at least.
Something .....anything,......odd but who knows, guess I will have to go back at some point
Hi Charlie,
Thank you for the stroll through the woods. Amazing history indeed and finding the wrope. It didn't look the old either.

Real good quality Mary
Tell me why there shouldn't be a round up there. I always hunted the top
You never know Mary, I may just have missed any targets that day

Im not sure what gauge it was Clint
Are you near Pat's Peak?
so where exactly is this in New Hampshire?
It is on private property that we have permission to explore so I am unable to give the location out.
That was weird you didn't even find any clad. Maybe because it was used a short period of time? Still somebody should have dropped something maybe it's already been detected

Nothing
I thought that area was off limits? Sorry you did not find anything.
I thought the same thing when I saw the title. But it's not the same ski lift that they hiked last month.
This is a different location and a permission
What town?
Is this in Springfield nh?
Negative
I see one in Glenwood Springs, CO and have been trying to find a way up there and who owns it to get permission. FYI - email incoming.
Im sure you guys had a lot of them out in CO
