His AUDIO EUROPE is EVERYTHING! My partner and I did all of Paris (the walking tour and all museums) on our own with this app and it was better than anything we could've done otherwise. We both hit 'play' at the same time on our own devices ..walked, laughed at the same time, paused and chatted about it, kept going ..it was the BEST! If you love Rick and his style it will be unforgettable. Can not recommend enough!
I have never bought Mr. Steves' merchandise. Never seen his books. But, consciously or otherwise, I've followed his advise. I have a lifetime of two-weeks-worth travels all over the world, jam-packed with experiences. I know it was time and money well spent and i'm better for it. If I had grandchildren, I've enough tall tales to bore them to death. So take heed, follow his advise and, if you are lucky, you will die a happy and contented human.
Rick was preaching carry on travel before it was trendy thanks to him I have been travelling lighter each visit I still buy his books and love his mindset
RS emphasis on preparation, minimalist packing and exploring paths less frequently taken, key to our phenomenal trip to Italy. Love the RS mindset and this video. Thanks!
Rick has a wealth of time and weight saving tips. I just downloaded your App and will definitely consult the topics for my next adventure. He has an uncanny wit and humor, thank you for your videos.
I grew up watching his shows and I am thankful for that. I've never traveled with more than a carry on. Over 30 years now, it's all about being on the ground and being open to people and moments. Thanks Rick. ❤😊❤
I became a fanatical pack-light guy after returning home from trip. As I unpacked I was amazed at home much stuff I brought that I did not use even once. I wrote those items down and stuck the list in the bag so that next time I could learn from the mistake.
Was fortunate enough to see Rick on MPTV before our trip to Europe and his tips saved us so much especially the carry on rule which I thought was nuts until the two mile walk to our hotel and no lifts in hotels
I think Rick makes a true believer out of most people who use his tips and his pack-lite rule. I did the carry-on for a few weeks in Paris and, at one point, stowed my bag in a locker there and took only a day pack on a one week trip to Rome and back. It's easy once you get used to it. Did my wash every night in sink. I don't even recall missing anything - had everything I needed. It was wonderful.
Im german and never heard of rick steves before, but his approach to travel is the same as mine. So i just bought the London pocket guide for my Trip in a few Weeks....great guy with great and Inspirational travel advices
Inspirational and I so appreciate Rick’s passion and enthusiasm 😀. I have downloaded the app for Audio Europe and told my friends and family about it - amazing 🤩
I just love Rick Steves! I used to watch his show on TV and dream about the day I’d get to go somewhere! And now, I’ve been to some of those places! I must have learned a lot from him because I’ve always been a good packer. And am not afraid to try new things! Thanks Rick!😃
I love Rick's videos so muuuch, there is always something to learn. I wish someone will do these type of videos for Asia or America or South America or Africa as well.
Found the Isle of Iona in Scotland thru a Rick Steve’s video and guidebook. We have been to Scotland two times with a third time coming in 2022; Iona has been on the itinerary each time! It is truly a place where we feel at peace and close to those who have passed before us. Thank you RS for the recommendation we would have never found it or the lovely little city of Oban without you.
My sister and I are in the planning stages of a Dream Trip to the UK May or Sept of ‘23. It has morphed during the last week from 14 day bus excursion to “let’s do a small 7 day tour then travel around UK on our own by train”! We’re in our 60’s and just brave enough to try. I’m going to look into the town you mentioned. We want to visit small, non touristy places when we set out on our own! Thank you for the info. Getting RS Guidebooks for sure!!
This video was so valuable! I love Rick Steves and what he teaches travelers. I feel more prepared and equipped for my trip to Europe after seeing this video.
Rick I love your informative shows. You seem to be so passionate about what you do. I would love to know more about you and your life. Have you ever been interviewed
Wonderful information Rick! I’ve enjoyed 4 different trips to Europe based on your travel guides and information you have shared. I am now addicted to traveling to Europe. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge of travel. I enjoy watching all your programs. Keep on traveling Rick!! You’re the best!
Kathy Rodriquez me too . I travel with my 19 year old daughter this year we have been to Denmark, Sweden and Lithuania staying in hostels and cheap airb&b only taking a backpack on the flights . We have Croatia booked for august and Katowice, Kraków and taking the night train to Slovakia in October for my 40th :)
Wow I randomly stumbled upon this video and thought I saw a familiar place at 26:26. Had to pause for a second and realised it's my favourite spot in the 28 countries I've been to - a random restaurant on the island of Hydra, Greece, that I walked to with my girlfriend at the time. Not a single person was at the restaurant with us as we had the best seafood of our lives and drank ouzo for the first time. Right in front of the restaurant is a little cliff jump where there were local men swimming, and a picture of that exact spot has been my phone wallpaper for two years now. What are the odds...
I also like to become part of the woodwork. Be with the people. Party with the people. We take the high speed from Brussels to Paris, it's great. Thanks Steve.
An excellent example is the Leprechaun Museum in Dublin. Very kitchsy but so much fun. We had a good laugh all through it. Then we went to the Giant’s Causeway. Truly amazing!
After years of talking about travel to Italy, we're currently researching our trip to Venice 2020. Instead of jumping around all over the country, we plan to stay 6 days. Gives us a reason to return and vist other parts in the future. Thanks Rick for what you do. Going to get you book soon. Looking to planning the trip and bring you along.
Joe Man that’s wonderful! That’s what we did too. Our original plan was to go country-hopping in Europe, but while planning we realized it was too much. So we spent entire 2-weeks in Italy alone. What a great decision.
be careful of scams in Venice we took a water taxi which we prepaid and after we got to the train station he told us to pay again ..he got very angry shouting at us we showed him the receipt and told him to get the police we were not paying period ...so keep all receipts and on check out of the hotel the clerk tried to scam us out of cash for the hotel tax(12.eruo each) .I showed her the print out of what the hotel tax in Venice should be she backed right down ..said it was a language issue ..Loved Venice !! but ..some people see tourists as an easy mark
I love listening to Rick speak on traveling. I get so inspired to go and see the world, more specifically Europe and other places that are not so popular with most people. Thank you Rick for your experiences and talks. I hope to one day backpack my way through any part of Europe. God bless
You have a wonderful delivery as a speaker. Have been watching you for years, but rarely travel. You are exciting in your presentations, and knowledge is incredible! More importantly, you are genuine in your caring for your audience. Thank you!
Love this information ...just a heads up on the effel tower ..you can buy those tickets up to 3 months prior to your trip and that museum pass ...worth the money ..buy it straight off the websight and have it shipped to USA then take it with you ..we got the max days 6 ,just keep in mind these are consecutive days that you have to use it . Definitely worth every penny . Check the museum list before your purchase then purchase what you want to see that's not on the list on line . 😊
Rick you are my travel god. By reading your guide book I had confidence to travel interdependently to Europe. Your tips and tricks are universal and I used them when I travelled within my home country India
I love my Rick Steves backpack! I call it "The Amoeba" because it can always swallow a little more, and it can always squeeze into the overhead compartment.
Regarding using ATM's. I suggest smaller transactions and smaller bills. Big banks charge $5 plus 3 percent, many smaller banks and credit unions charge a flat one percent (some are even free). With a small flat percentage, I can pick up less cash as I need it rather than pack extra cash. As long as the card has a Visa or MC logo, it will work anywhere. Most places frown if they see a 50 euro note, especially for a small purchase. It's much better to have 20 euro notes, ten or smaller is even better.
Did you notice that his ATM gave 50 Euro notes? If your ATM doesn’t have the ability to specify the denominations, then pick an amount that will get some, such as 285.
I love everything in this video. However, the best part is highligthing the best beers from Prague (Czech premium pale lager-Pilsner Urquell) and Belgium (Trappist Single or Trippel in the Chimay glass). As a homebrewer, these are the best beers that I've had let alone brewed. I've dedicated myself to always have a Czech Premium Lager on tap at all times because of this beer. I've never been to Prague (or Plzen) so I hope to make it there soon. Keep up the great work.
I'd like to point out that Prague has original medieval points. That church shown is from 14th century. Some quarters of Prague do have neogothic beauty (as Vysehrad - standing atop a gothic basilica or the St. Ludmila church). But when you are walking through the center it's original. It takes my breath away. I can almost hear the old bells sound and feel the big cobblestones under my feet. ♡
I've lived in Europe for 38 years and I endorse your philosophy, especially going light. The only thing American you will not be able to buy in Europe is corndogs and grits. You don't need your "might use" and "just in case" stuff, you can buy it if you need it. You can buy a lot of stuff for the $75 you will pay to check your bag.
Love your videos - so informative and i love your voice. I havent really been interested in traveling - it seemed like too much trouble even though you get so see all these wonderful places in person. You have taken all of the trouble out of it - long lines, packing light, everybody speaks some english, where to stay, how enjoy dining - modes of travel - you make it all feel pretty easy. Thank you so much!!
Rick awesome resource, thank you! Hello from Chicago! it was because of you that both my self and fiancé's favorite place is Monterosso! our fist time was in October 2018 and for our honeymoon we're going back in May 2019.... :) I actually lived in Hawaii (Oahu) and Monterosso's one of my fave beaches... what better place to have italian food, wine and gelato... graze mille! :)

Absolutely wonderful Rick. I'm a student so I head to Europe every other summer or so in May. You have been a huge inspiration for me to take on Europe through the back door. It started with your shows on cable TV and then on to your guide books and talks. Anyone can see how passionate you are about teaching the secrets of Europe. I am always yearning to head back and planning future travels. Your shows are the best sort of escapism. Better than any major TV platform with a fancy script and cameramen. You have inspired a generation to truly keep on travelling. Thanks mate!
Think about how much you're likely to want to buy on your trip. Unless I'm going to be taking a lot of flights within Europe I check a mid-size wheeled bag and pack light; that way I have room for purchases.
I just watched your video "Packing Light & Right with Rick Steves" from May 2, 2014. At the very end you introduced Joan Robinson to show how women can pack light and classy. Is there a video of that presentation?
I'm heading to Portugal in 2 weeks for my first trip to a country where English isn't their first language. I feel like I'm prepared but watching this has been an inspiration to someone my age. Thanks
For the seasons your are recommending Rick, its fine if you can take a few weeks off anytime of the year, but I have set vacation time,.... so i have summer months which I can travel, mostly, ... and would love for you to do shows about different parts of Europe that you havent talked about in your shows or books. ex. Bordeaux, Lyon, St. Petersburg, Bari, ... cheers
Really like the educated guesses part. Remember in Milan asking for the Duomo. They guy kept repeating "piedzone" as non Italian speaker that didn't make sense but followed his directions. When entering the "piedzone" I started laughing since now I understood, pedestrian zone/crossing.
Pocket Guides should be good. They cover a specific city or small area and offer things to do for up to a week. Travel Guides are broader in scope, usually covering the whole country. How good is this?? Love your work,
Rick's radio show is the best travel podcast in the world.
Bob Mob Hi how do you get the podcast if you don't mind me asking please?
lisette la chat it’s called Rick Steves Radio Europe. If you search for that in Apple Podcasts or go on Rick’s website it should be easy to find.
Can't agree more.

Rick does some seriously interesting stuff. I live in the UK and travel around Europe regularly in Europe and I continually learn things.
I am so grateful for this guy and his work!

Me too
Lovely
20 years old and doing my first solo trip in 2 weeks... have planned several family trips previously using our man ricks books
Amazing how much quality content Mr. Steves brings out on a regular basis. Looking forward to my 4th Rick Steves tour coming up soon!
Hi there,
I am Dutch and lived in The Netherlands all my life, yet I watch his videos on travel in Europe.
@@mikehydropneumatic2583 - Same here.
Can I come along? ; ~ ))
What's a "Rick Steves tour"?
I know I'm well equipped to tour Europe with Ricks help.
Thanks!
Watching these shows on Sunday night is very relaxing

Will go to the Best of Europe 21 Day Tour with Rick Steve in 3 months, so exited :)!
Wonderful inspiration. Travel with a companion, it sucks to not talk with someone for a trip because of the language barrier.
Thanks for this. I love watching these videos. If I ever get to Europe the success of the trip will be credited entirely to Rick’s tutorials.
Rick Steves and Samantha Brown are the gurus of travel! They energized us up to go out there and see what the world can offer
I also like to become part of the woodwork. Be with the people. Party with the people. We take the high speed from Brussels to Paris, it's great. Thanks Steve.

Rick Steves great show.💯🤟🌹
RickSteves books are fabulous. I wonder how he started and wrote those books which are crazy detailed
Used the app in the Vatican, much easier to understand than tour guide. Rick Steve’s made the difference.
Being hearing impaired, I'm looking forward to this. I miss so much with guides.
I just did this in the vatican a couple of months ago, I loved it

I’d like Rick Steve’s to do Transportation for senior citizens who must use wheelies and can’t drag them up and down 4 flights of steps or ride bikes.
Listened to Rick's audio tour at the Pantheon and the Coliseum, great experience!
I love listening to Rick speak on traveling. I get so inspired to go and see the world, more specifically Europe and other places that are not so popular with most people. Thank you Rick for your experiences and talks. I hope to one day backpack my way through any part of Europe. God bless

I love this man!!!! Thank you Rick for all the tips! ❤❤❤❤
I agree 100% with getting up early staying until late, the problem is when the weather is not nice at those times.
I bring my curiosity and leave with a wealth of history . Claudia . Austin Texas
Thanks for making this a separate channel
I’m so happy I found this so much inspiration and information
Minor point at 1:05:30, the Paris Museum Pass does not include admission to Versailles
Very good your travel tips,i am from Indonesian 🇮🇩

Rick awesome resource, thank you! Hello from Chicago! it was because of you that both my self and fiancé's favorite place is Monterosso! our fist time was in October 2018 and for our honeymoon we're going back in May 2019.... :) I actually lived in Hawaii (Oahu) and Monterosso's one of my fave beaches... what better place to have italian food, wine and gelato... graze mille! :)
Thank YOU so much! Excellent tips, very much to my taste, reassures me we're doing it right!
Very good info and tips. I just found your channel and I’ve been bingeing your videos for my upcoming cruise. Very helpful and useful. Thank you!
Agreed, see much more and enjoy better away from the crowd with some planning different from tours schedules.
Travel brings riches in life with experiences, learning and making new friends.✌💕

Mom and I are going to Great Britain this fall (2023). I was a little worried undertaking a 3-week trip and planning where to stay. But based on Steve's tips and his other videos, my approach of staying out of larger towns and in B&B's seems to be the right move.
I am flying to Barcelona in a week before a 3 week Med and Trans Atlantic trip. You have to be flexible when the AirBnb I had originally booked cancelled I found a new one in the same central area. My Parents and I love traveling like locals. I booked myself a Paella cooking class in Barcelona. We are seeing Portofino, Cinque Terre, Lake Bracchiano and an Etruscan Winery, Almafi Coast, Cordoba, Murcia, Lisbon and Azores. I worked out the plan and am looking forward.
I booked us at Los Coracoles in Barcelona for Friday night! I love traveling.
I was in istanbul ,turkey, and I had with me a book make by Rick steves about istanbul, too much to learn ,it help me a lot,you have to take time to choose what you want to see

You have inspired a generation to truly keep on travelling. Thanks mate!
I so want to go on one of Rick's tours.
Also try on the Dutch wooden shoes. They are quite comfortable and nice and warm even in a Canadian winter!
Think about how much you're likely to want to buy on your trip. Unless I'm going to be taking a lot of flights within Europe I check a mid-size wheeled bag and pack light; that way I have room for purchases.
I am my own tour organized and do all the travel arrangements prior to leave my home. I travel on my own since 1973.
Rick, you should have been a comedian!! Great information communicated in a fun amusing way. Thank you.
Rick you do travel so well...why don't you go yo Augsburg, Germany?
Awesome presentation!
I just watched your video "Packing Light & Right with Rick Steves" from May 2, 2014. At the very end you introduced Joan Robinson to show how women can pack light and classy. Is there a video of that presentation?
Hugely helpful, thanks!
A rule of thumb: if a castle has big windows at or near ground level, it's not a real castle, irrespective of any crenellations or pointy bits.
He meant to say that Neuschwanstein was built in the late 19th century, not the late 1900s
RICK I LOVE YOUUU
I'm heading to Portugal in 2 weeks for my first trip to a country where English isn't their first language. I feel like I'm prepared but watching this has been an inspiration to someone my age. Thanks

You are the "Jim Rohan" for travellers.
What brand is the travel suitcase?
Great info!
Thanks for captions for the Deaf. Real cations that you took the time to do, rather than the automatic. ;)
this is grand... thank you ♥️

You are the best Me Steves
He is right on the money on every point
Im going to Paris and London, 3 days in each city. Should I gett the Rick Steves Pocket Guide or Travel Guide?
Pocket Guides should be good. They cover a specific city or small area and offer things to do for up to a week.
Travel Guides are broader in scope, usually covering the whole country. In exchange for this they don’t go quite as deep into any one city. It’ll still do fine, but it won’t have as many options as Pocket Berlin and it’s not as convenient to carry.
