After getting so many requests on my Instagram (@mathieu_hulliger) to make a video about my vehicle I finally found the time to make one. Thank you Kevin Hauser (@steadyprod) for filming me that afternoon.

Gordon Chapman the Real Defender is iconic with development going back to the original landrover series 1. The new “Defender” has nothing to do with the old one. It should be named something new and let us mourn the death of such an iconic, beautiful unique truck.

Hi mate. I have a Land Rover in Australia. I always tell everybody that we were both made in England and designed for Australia. Good to see you are using Australian gear (ARB). They are quality products with many years experience. The ARB rooftop tent might have been designed for Australia and not Europe. It doesnt get as cold in Australia. Your Land Rover is amazingly excellent and it has been really good to watch your TH-cam video. Keep making them. I have subscribed so should see all you upload. Dont lose that great spirit of adventure. I am 67 and I am still just as keen as I was 50 years ago. Thank you (basically hahahahaha) See ya - Gerry (Australia).

Hi Gerry, Sorry for the late response. Thank you so much for your comment! Yes I'm currently on my way back home from a 2.5 month road trip in Iceland. Only spent one night in a hotel otherwise all in the Landy. So far so good, no brake downs and had water up to the bonnet and the door handles. haha.
I hope to make it out to Australia one day, but will need another 3-4 months holidays to do so I guess. :)

Love the build. My wife doesn’t like camping so it’s a difficult project for me to convince her.
But that's luxury camping. Sleeping in a roof top tent is a lot more comfy, then in a ground tent. Took a lot of people camping with me that said they don't like it. But loved the week end in the Defender. :)

Is relativ viel Geld ins Auto geflossen, hätte auch ein Laster werden können dafür. Was mich immer wundert ist, die Seilwinde vorne. Ich mein, wenn es nicht weiter geht, dann versucht eigentlich jeder wieder zurück zu kommen... trotzdem ist die Winde nicht hinten. Nun, wer viel unterwegs ist hat in der Regel ohnehin keine. Son Landy bekommt man auch ohne wieder los.

As a Brit raised in Scotland who's first car was a Land Rover Safari 12 seater with a 3.8 litre v8 that got less than 1 mpg!!! ... I ldo ove Land Rover Defenders. And I love your attention to detail - the thought that has gone into this build is impressive :) But I can't help wonder what you could do with a Nissan Safari and all the extra space / capability that it offers :)

Roof mounted fuel cans are illegal in Switzerland and Italy, and probably a lot of other EU countries too. They're a safety risk if they leak - diesel doesn't burn easily, but imagine diesel all over the windows: you wouldn't be able to see and the wipers and washers would be useless. 80l up top is a lot of weight in addition to the roll cage and tent, so your handling would be bad and side slope capability severely restricted. You'd be far better off with extra\a fuel tank capacity under the vehicle - 300Tdi Camel Trophy 110s used SIII MoD spec front fuel tanks under the right front seat, and if you move the battery, you could add another under the left seat. There are plenty of aftermarket fuel tanks, too. They are safer than roof mounted cans, legal, bring the CoG lower than normal and also can be selected without stopping driving, so are safer in that respect too of not needing you to climb up on the roof in wind and rain and then refill the tank beside a busy highway or road.

Very cool truck and well laid out....I know its for expedition but whats the all up weight.

My Hummer 3 does pretty good off road.
Its also does great in winter.
I didn't add any upgrades.
One thing it don't do well, It don't like it when it get hit head on.

Some dude decides to stop watching the road and came into my lane and hit my Hummer head one.
His Chevy pickup was around $13,000 damage.
My Hummer's damage was around $7.000.
They repair place destroyed my alarm some how, and did not pull my front end all the way back out,
and broke the new plastic bracing trying to fit it back together on a bent front end.
From the outside it looks fine, but i know its still broke.
I paid $30.000 for it used.
Because i could only afford to get it on payments.
Its always nice to run into bad drivers.
I think it messed up my universal joints when he rammed me, because i hear squeaking now when its moving.
But i still love my Hummer.
My dream truck when i was a kid was a Land Rover.
The machine that has gone all over the world in places no other machines have gone.

Sick set up! You missed out a lot of things though. I wanted to know about all your body panels and guards. Also the window guards. Wondered if they come like that or did you put in all the metal sidings?

Very nice looking Defender. I love the usability of the build + focus on cosmetics a bit and the fact that its not too prim and proper but has hacks and DIY. A couple of suggestions/ asks
1. I wonder why you put the water tank in the back instead of in the footwells of the second row. More centralized weight..no?
2. I would love to hear more about weight increase, especially by each major add on (tent, tank, etc.) and the performance trade off and how the increased HP/ Trq helped
3. You should do a video where you live in the vehicle and show 'a day in the life with the D'. It will b e useful to see how you setup camp, how you live off the vehicle etc.
4. I would love to also know more about the vehicle basic stats like curb weight, GVM, tank size, economy/ range with stock tank
5. You mention that the SD roll cage wont help in case of a roll over. Why? Because its a half cage? Why didnt you go for a full cage?
6. Have you explored the Alucab poptop? You might not have the roll cage and the ability to carry fuel on the roof (but that can be sorted with another swing out carrier
All in all a great build. I hope you enjoy it.
