Really good video! 👍 So with Bridgets yoyo setting moves she actually has to pick whether it hits on the way out or on return. If it hits on the way out you can tell because it'll have flames coming off of it while it travels, while the one that hits on return will not have the effect while it's going out. Additionally, her having the yoyo set out unlocks that crazy blanka ball move she has, so when the yoyo is set that's when you need to be ready for that move. It's easy to beat the move out in neutral if she's being impatient with it, but she has a lot of ways to cancel it into tons of different moves, it's what makes her corner mix so infamous. Even though it doesn't look like it, Sols Night Raid Vortex actually low profiles so low that it can go under Potemkins laser wall projectile. Only him and I-No have the ability to do that. Your other options are to try to super jump over it (quickly input down then up) and air dash, or just block it and hold the mix. Other characters have their own unique options against it tho like Bridget can set a yoyo really high up and then jump and roll to it and Potemkin has almost no chance of catching her in the act. Also projectiles like Potemkins wall and Goldlewis's laser can't cross up! Even if you're in between the opponent and the projectile you just need to hold away from the opponent and the projectile will be blocked too. Also for Goldewis if you can side switch before the laser reaches you it'll make it a little harder for him to play off of the laser. Also regarding the matchup, Goldlewis does have pretty bad defense but he still does have a frame 5 mash and a reversal super so he's not fucked, and his offense feels almost perfectly tuned to screw over DP characters like Sol. Sols defense is infamous as being super baby mode but Goldlewis has tricks to deal with it. Goldewis j.D also is apparently really hard for Sol to beat is what I've heard. You don't really wanna use Sols command grab super unless you wanna be silly. It's really easy to jump over it if you know what's happening. His other super is great tho it's a reversal and a good move to break the wall with. Yeah Bridget HATES low profiles. She has the tools to answer back but if you just let 1 vortex rip into a full combo it hurts her so much cuz of how little health she has. Faust also is the only character in the game who can crawl and his crawl hurtbox is microscopic. My main practice partner is a Faust main and I have to restructure my neutral and corner pressure so much vs that char. But uh about Sol vs Bridget I think both chars hate the matchup mutually lmao. Also Testaments pronouns are they/them :)
Hey Sol's command grab super is an INSANELY good whiff punish, it's not a meme it's just niche, it's a great way to catch people mashing just out of range and has insane wall carry, it's a genuinely good super but purely in a whiff punish
Def would show my friends this video having someone go through the learning process and explaining how to play Sol in small sections while showing actual gameplay and not being super technical is great! ❤❤
This video was a joy to watch! I'm a newbie to both Strive and fighting games in general, seeing your approach to learning a new game was really fun and inspiring!
It'd be cool to see one of these videos done while on call with a coach - I kept seeing so many opportunities for quick gameplan changes or additions that would've made such a huge immediate difference, interesting to see how far you could push with that
I love these kinds of videos. I've been in the FGC for so long I forgot what it was like to be new. You have a good mindset when learning games. Keep at it, and keep up the content.
Honestly these videos get me in such a good mindset to go in ranked. You go in with an open mind to learn and it reminds me that’s the only way I’ll continue to grow!😊

The most Sol Badguy casual player to do is in neutral, you just hit his grab super. Dragon install in neutral or right after wall break is just such a fun option, because if it lands, you know your opponent is gonna be mad. Since it litterally doesn't stop and will continue, even through other characters supers, you can use it as a super reversal. Like the Potenkim ranged super, just freaking Dragon install and go right through it
Man your videos about being a noob in fighting games are literally a blessing from god to people like me I’m so grateful for them, I’m trying to decide which fighting game I want ro play between Street fighter 6, Tekken 8, and guilty gear and those are so helpful
A couple of tips for when you're fighting Baiken (from a Baiken player). When she knocks you down with her kabari (the chain move), she can go in with a safe jump afterwards to close the gap, catch mashing, and keep herself safe from reversals. The other tip is that she has a frame 1 parry, so be careful when applying oki or pressure, as she can throw it out if there is even just a single frame or two during a blockstring where she's able to press buttons.
its honestly kind of insane how much of the games like correct responses you picked up naturally, like i know youve been playing other fighting games and of course smash but its still really neat to see the natural progression!
24:48 they’re not cross ups and you dont have to block both ways, you only ever have to hold block in the direction your opponent is opposite of. What Potemkin’s super does is set up 3 hits where he can either do a j.p to reduce the blockstun and set up an unavoidable mixup scenario (you mash, you get hit by Giganter, you don’t mash, you get Pot Bustered, you jump, your pre jump frames get hit by Pot going for another strike). Goldlewis gets something similar by forcing you in with his super, then using the giant laser to make you unable to see a high/low mixup, or he can go for jump j.h for a crossup overhead.
You love to see the meter usage in match 99, vortex is super unsafe on block, but with meter there's no downside! And yeah, the cool / terrifying thing about some fighting games, when you're asking "how are you even supposed to deal with this??", sometimes the answer is "sorry, you can't. You just have to stop them from getting into that situation to begin with". Millia disc, elphelt rekka, I-no hover, the way to win those matches is to stop them from getting their win condition at all costs.
I also just started Guilty Gear and have been having so much fun (except honestly Elphelt reallly tests me..) I really appreciate seeing videos of people in my skill range
I kept thinking “oh he dropped” and then he says he did the combo right. Maybe I’m just too used to floor 10 players busting down after leaving the lab.
24:46 easy mistake to make when starting out, but no, you always block by pressing back. Goldlewis’ super’s utility isn’t that you have to block all crazy and get unblockabled, its utility is that it brings you back into his range. Also, I gotta see the match that transpired against a pot that made you come to the conclusion of adding him to this statement lol.
As a veteran fighting player, I really enjoyed the way you segmented each new mechanic or knowledge and kept adding to your game. Also, appreciate the way you explained the things you were learning along the way. Glad to see you are enjoying yourself with the fighting games. It can be tough sometimes, but it's extremely fun to learn and adapt.
Tips against Potemkin! Try to stay grounded and play the spacing game. Hammerfall can be countered with your 5k since it hits twice, but the spacing and timing needs to be practice. It's very minus on block if you block it so it's your turn afterwards. If you want a sparring partner, I'm a floor 10 faust and I love this game so much I'm always happy to help out new players, especially with a matchup as weird as faust. Great job on the journey! You grew a lot but I also saw that you'd definitely played fighting games before
im by no means a good player after almost 2 years of playing this but its such a sweet treat for me to see people still getting into this game. i love it and i hope ggst lives to see more stronger years
I really like that despite everything, everyone has to start from somewhere. no one is imidiatly good when jumping into any game be it fighting or other genres. you never really notice how much you improve but I like this video highlights how it takes a couple matches to see you are already 10 times the better player you use to be
If you wanna keep going in strive things i noticed idk if you figured them out is: there is a few frames of grab invuln on wake up, if something is hitting from both sides you just have to hold away from your opponent like gold lewis super it's not a crossup, also after hitting charge dust you cant do an air combo but double tapping a button ends it into a hard knockdown. great video overall love to see this kind of stuff.
Damn, seeing the rapid progress is terrifying. 3 pieces of unsolicited advice i hope help, 1. Blue rc works anytime in neutral, and is incredibly versatile. You can def use it to stop the opponent to see what they're doing, but it can also be used on pressure to lock them down and even do a backdash rc to make yourself airborne for an unseeable high/low 2. 6P abuse is a huge part of the game because it deletes your hurtbox all the way down to your knees. While dp is great for calling out air stall, its really bad if they airblock. 6p is easy, low commit and works really well 90% of the time. Also a lot of pokes in the game are abusable bc 6P being a low-commit way to shut them down. Use it often to call out people trying to swing anything that goes above your knees, even Leos sweep or Mays dolphin, 6p counters so much stuff. 3. Normal grabs are 2 frames, if they're close to you and not doing a meaty or tight frame trap, they're often an incredible reversal option. Everyone has 5frame protection against grab anytime they leave blockstun or wakeup that is lost when using a dp, so don't use grab until you've conditioned them to stop mashing or start dping bc they essentially get +5 advantage against your grab option on wakeup or pressure.
if you wanna keep this endevor of learning strive, i recommend you look into mods like advantage in training mode and the frame data display. those are all extremely useful. also, try out granblue fantasy versus rising. it has a free edition
to beat potemkin's barrier you need to block it 3 times and it will disappear (or get hit by it 3 times, i guess) yes, i know, it's very oppressive, but trust me, pot kinda needs it and sol you can also 214S under it, but be careful, he may see it coming and push you back into the barrier or grab you the sol/pot matchup is actually more or less balanced, it's just painful on both ends also, as sol, you have the best pressure tools in the game. your main pressure tool is f.s (far slash). it's +3 on block. absolute terror. (most 5s moves in the game change depending on distance to the opponent, and as sol you can even combo c.s into f.s for free just by pressing slash twice). oh, and i should also mention that 6p in the universal anti-air. every character's 6p makes the top half of their body invincible for a few frames. granted, sol has 5k, aka, the best normal in the game, which is definetly a good anti-air, but 6p will go through many attacks that 5k won't. you can 6p a lot of annoying moves such as gio's kick thing also, when you get a wallbreak, the opponent will get a hard knockdown if you break the wall with a super, or with wild assault (236d), which you can take advantage of. try to hit them with a meaty or a safe jump as they get up, they will be forced to block/dp/raw super out of it, which you can see coming. as sol, hitting a meaty c.s is usually a good option, since that sets up for his incredible pressure. also, try to grab every once in a while (4d or 6d). keep them guessing. you can grab in the air, too. sol has one of the most damaging commands grabs in the game (623k). it can't be teched also, missinputing 623k when trying to 236k happens more often than i would like to admit. if you're dashing forward before trying to do bandit revolver, try to let go of the stick/dpad before inputing 236k. don't go straight from holding 6 to 2. if you pressed 6 too recently it could be misread. also, if they block and unsafe move, such as 214s, and you have tension, you can always roman cancel to get out of disadvantage also, sol's hmc (214214h) is the wordt super in the game. yes it's a command grab and does absurd damage, but you can just completely avoid it by jumping over it and get a free punish. sol's tyrant rave (632146h) however, is a great super, and like 623h, it's much stronger if you hit it very close also, ramlethal's mortobato is the best super in the game and you should always be afraid of it also, you can 5k/5p/2p/623s out of elphelt's rekka, but you need to guess right at least once when blocking. it's very annoying. my best advice is to just do your best to avoid that situation if you can
As someone with a loooooot of hours in this game, your note about potemkin’s grab being invulnerable is true for all command grabs (grabs with specific special inputs) Edit: as a millia main, the way you beat hdisk on knockdown depends on what knocked you down. She gets more advantage on 2d>throw>haircar in that order, so Sol 5k will work for throw and haircar but not 2d. If you get 2d’d, you have to gamble with Reversal VV or hold the mix.
17:10 there is a common tech for doing the 236 special when you have both 236 and 623 on the same button - you have to press 4 before inputing 236 so like 66(to run up) > 4 > 236K
It was funny looking at the thumbnail and imagining you as a Sol player being converted from getting crush counter-hit for pressing buttons to eventually VVing on wakeup, just like a real Sol player would
Super happy to see you evolving your craft, and comforting seeing the gameplay progress. Think a lot of people dont get to see how closely someone who knows HOW to while playing, along with supplements like the Dustloop Wiki you were demonstrating and videos talking about video game articles, like Krakatoa in his Neutral.mp4 video (definitely worth the watch and to read the article related to it if you have the downtime) Funny seeing this video as I barely put my 100 hours in the game

Some things that a I want to tell you:
- Use 6P, universal antiair
- RC after Dust, secure overhead and combo potencial
- You can block the Burst, so you can bait a hit and wait for the burst, he will be vulnerable until touch the floor
- You can RC any move that made you vulnerable and evade o counter an opponent's attack
- You can dash just before the RC to move to that direction (front, back, up and down)
- After Bandit Revolver try RC, if it hits, you can extend with closeS > jump > j. S > j. H > j. D
If Bandit Revolver doesn't hit, after the de RC is 50/50, press P just after the RC and it will be an overhead or wait a little a do 2K to lowprofile, or can mix up with jump and wait reaction
- You can cancel 5K and closeS into a jump (works on almost every character)
- RC after Vortex and there's no whiff and even you can punish the reaction
- Use the command grab to mix
- You use Volcanic Viper after they block Bandit Bringer, but it's risky, just block it's the best option most of the time
Maybe there are some things that I forgot but this would be enough to start

I can't believe you got 100 games and none against Leo
Leo and Happy Chaos aren't common characters on lower floors, so it makes sense why they weren't repped in this video.
I would love to see more of a GG series! Watching you get better at the game over time was great! Keep up the great videos!
its honestly kind of insane how much of the games like correct responses you picked up naturally, like i know youve been playing other fighting games and of course smash but its still really neat to see the natural progression!
7:42 command grabs being immune to grabs is a universal mechanic, every command grab in the game has that not just potemkin's
Bridget's rock the baby definitely isn't for the record. That's the main way people counter it
“I keep trying to wind god fist” lmao
Maybe I’m just too used to floor 10 players busting down after leaving the lab.
good video, you should do a 100 days of learning a hard char in strive would love to watch
This video coming out 1 day after buying strive is perfect timing! Looking forward to get into this game more!
Saying "look at the range of her grab super" and "wow look at all those reversals" about Jack O, as Sol Badguy, is beyond hilarious lmao
“When is it my turn”
Good question
Fighting happy chaos pre nerf fits this perfectly
Bridgets are laggy because after HRT we don’t have money for an Ethernet cable. Sorry I don’t make the rules🤷♀️
Sick video, strive was my first fighting game and watching you is like revisiting those experiences.
Ky and honest haven’t been in the same sentence for about 6 months lmao. Glad ur mixing up the content
You improved a lot in just one day pretty impressive tbh
Wow first Faust and the first item he throws are the meteors lol
Tips against Potemkin! Try to stay grounded and play the spacing game. Hammerfall can be countered with your 5k since it hits twice, but the spacing and timing needs to be practice. It's very minus on block if you block it so it's your turn afterwards.
If you want a sparring partner, I'm a floor 10 faust and I love this game so much I'm always happy to help out new players, especially with a matchup as weird as faust. Great job on the journey! You grew a lot but I also saw that you'd definitely played fighting games before
Coming from a Bridget player, when i decide to go for a higher floor, millia is fucking terrifying
Strive is such a good looking game
I don’t know when it will be surpassed but it will take years at least im sure
One thing I learned about Bridget, (because it’s who I’m playing the most) the yo-yos count as hurt-boxes. One well timed hit and it’s a punish.
im by no means a good player after almost 2 years of playing this but its such a sweet treat for me to see people still getting into this game. i love it and i hope ggst lives to see more stronger years
I really like that despite everything, everyone has to start from somewhere. no one is imidiatly good when jumping into any game be it fighting or other genres. you never really notice how much you improve but I like this video highlights how it takes a couple matches to see you are already 10 times the better player you use to be
You were always laughing so much in your melee vids I could not recognize your voice lmao
No way, I was waiting for Happy Chaos the whole time
ludvix doing more content is already treat but going outside of melee is an even bigger treat
I’m glad to see you like Faust. Everyone’s favorite goofy guy.
Guilty gear is nostalgic game in the world,I love this game so much
Damn, seeing the rapid progress is terrifying. 3 pieces of unsolicited advice i hope help,
1. Blue rc works anytime in neutral, and is incredibly versatile. You can def use it to stop the opponent to see what they're doing, but it can also be used on pressure to lock them down and even do a backdash rc to make yourself airborne for an unseeable high/low
2. 6P abuse is a huge part of the game because it deletes your hurtbox all the way down to your knees.
Its really funny seeing you have touble getting in when sol has one of the best burst movement combo starters.
i literaly fell of my chair as i heard you say that ky is an honest character
Wake up babe ludvix uploaded. old time viewer.
Thought that elphelt combo was long, oh you sweet summer child
Typical test main here to represent my themporers test is nonbinary not a she still love the video would love to see you play more strive
I'm also a Testament main, love them.
The stage that the Brigitte was on was the problem, the snow stage is notoriously laggy
Damn, no Anji match-up, we are so rare nowadays
Great video, loved your thought process
interesting game play. love to see more of this... 👊 nice vid brother
if you wanna keep this endevor of learning strive, i recommend you look into mods like advantage in training mode and the frame data display. those are all extremely useful.
also, try out granblue fantasy versus rising. it has a free edition
Still waiting for "playing Shrek super slam for 100 games"
Me: in the back watching all his problems Also me: coughs in Faust💀
to beat potemkin's barrier you need to block it 3 times and it will disappear (or get hit by it 3 times, i guess)
yes, i know, it's very oppressive, but trust me, pot kinda needs it
and sol you can also 214S under it, but be careful, he may see it coming and push you back into the barrier or grab you
the sol/pot matchup is actually more or less balanced, it's just painful on both ends
also, as sol, you have the best pressure tools in the game. your main pressure tool is f.s (far slash). it's +3 on block. absolute terror. (most 5s moves in the game change depending on distance to the opponent, and as sol you can even combo c.s into f.s for free just by pressing slash twice).
oh, and i should also mention that 6p in the universal anti-air. every character's 6p makes the top half of their body invincible for a few frames. granted, sol has 5k, aka, the best normal in the game, which is definetly a good anti-air, but 6p will go through many attacks that 5k won't. you can 6p a lot of annoying moves such as gio's kick thing
also, when you get a wallbreak, the opponent will get a hard knockdown if you break the wall with a super, or with wild assault (236d), which you can take advantage of. try to hit them with a meaty or a safe jump as they get up, they will be forced to block/dp/raw super out of it, which you can see coming. as sol, hitting a meaty c.s is usually a good option, since that sets up for his incredible pressure.
also, try to grab every once in a while (4d or 6d). keep them guessing. you can grab in the air, too. sol has one of the most damaging commands grabs in the game (623k). it can't be teched
also, missinputing 623k when trying to 236k happens more often than i would like to admit. if you're dashing forward before trying to do bandit revolver, try to let go of the stick/dpad before inputing 236k. don't go straight from holding 6 to 2. if you pressed 6 too recently it could be misread.
also, if they block and unsafe move, such as 214s, and you have tension, you can always roman cancel to get out of disadvantage
also, sol's hmc (214214h) is the wordt super in the game. yes it's a command grab and does absurd damage, but you can just completely avoid it by jumping over it and get a free punish. sol's tyrant rave (632146h) however, is a great super, and like 623h, it's much stronger if you hit it very close
also, ramlethal's mortobato is the best super in the game and you should always be afraid of it
also, you can 5k/5p/2p/623s out of elphelt's rekka, but you need to guess right at least once when blocking. it's very annoying. my best advice is to just do your best to avoid that situation if you can
17:05 u can prevent missinput if u do half circle instead of quarter circle 41236k bandit revolver for example. works for other specials too
As someone with a loooooot of hours in this game, your note about potemkin’s grab being invulnerable is true for all command grabs (grabs with specific special inputs)
Edit: as a millia main, the way you beat hdisk on knockdown depends on what knocked you down. She gets more advantage on 2d>throw>haircar in that order, so Sol 5k will work for throw and haircar but not 2d. If you get 2d’d, you have to gamble with Reversal VV or hold the mix.
calling pot a grappler is merciful, he's more of a brick wall
When you FD block not only does is stop chip damage but it also causes larger pushback, so it helps create space when they're super rush down on you.
17:10 there is a common tech for doing the 236 special when you have both 236 and 623 on the same button - you have to press 4 before inputing 236
so like 66(to run up) > 4 > 236K
18 minutes in and he still hasnt used sol's super grab, I can't wait for when he discovers it lmao.
warms my heart to see a 0% winrate vs my fellow potemkin players lol
37:41 that ping... Rollback is amazing.
Respect doing what was working at first
It was funny looking at the thumbnail and imagining you as a Sol player being converted from getting crush counter-hit for pressing buttons to eventually VVing on wakeup, just like a real Sol player would
I like this style of video and its cool that a smasher i watched for years finally got around to my game of choice lol
GGS!!! I am a noob still but am LOVING the game!
Super happy to see you evolving your craft, and comforting seeing the gameplay progress. Think a lot of people dont get to see how closely someone who knows HOW to while playing, along with supplements like the Dustloop Wiki you were demonstrating and videos talking about video game articles, like Krakatoa in his Neutral.mp4 video (definitely worth the watch and to read the article related to it if you have the downtime) Funny seeing this video as I barely put my 100 hours in the game
if you think Millia is wack just wait till you fight an I-No...
also Testament is non-binary!! they're referred to with they/them, i love em a lot, ESPECIALLY THEIR ENGLISH VA ITS SO COOL
Love these videos bro
You should try guilty gear plus r next it’s similar but different, and fun in its own way.
