I'm 33 now and remember the Skyrim release like yesterday. Booked the next day off work and I don't think I saw the sun once that day. Curtains closed, lights off and Skyrim for the day. It was immediately brilliant and probably still in my top 5 to this day. Love the channel man, found you on Tiktok and have been really enjoying the TH-cam now too
I was always more of a multiplayer gamer so didn’t get into Skyrim, it’s only now I’m older I’m starting to play games like Skyrim. I’d love more than anything ever for midnight releases to comeback.
Funny story, Skyrim's midnight release is directly responsible for some of my favourite memories from University. Skyrim was the last midnight release I ever went to. I had just started Uni, so me and a few of my flatmates went to Game in York at like, 9pm, walking through town. One of our other flatmates had been longing for a Sofa, as the flat was 12 individual units and shared kitchen with a big table in the middle. We saw a ratty looking Sofa sitting in someones front garden on the way, so we jokingly messaged our flatmate that there was a sofa here if they wanted it. We got the Game. The line was huge, I got my PC copy of the game along with the strategy guide. We got home and I started installing the game and played til like 5am. But not before we got home to discover the ratty looking sofa in the kitchen. And so began a war between the Flat and the Universities Cleaning staff, who wanted us to get rid of the Sofa at the end of the semester. We did eventually get rid of it, by hiding it in our friends Halls of Residence that were due to be sold to a property developer at the end of the year. But man, I'll never forget putting that Sofa on a wagon and riding around the York campus at 9 o clock at night like some sort of Jouster. Good memories.
26 is still young! You wait until your in your 50s and realise just how quickly time really flies. I remember taking the week off work when MW2 came out and release date was the Tuesday 10th Nov 2009 and I took the Monday off as well to get chores done so that I could spend 6 days playing before work the following week, but I had pre ordered and my game arrived in the post a day early on the Monday morning so I jumped on right away! Suffice to say no chores got done that week 🤣
There was a long queue at Smyths for Red Dead Redemption 2 which wasn't too long ago. Like you say, good times and adds great sentimental value over just purchasing a game. IF there is a disk for GTA or maybe Elder Scrolls, there will sure be lots of places with people waiting outside
Cayle the last midnight release I went to was for a book! When’s that happened since? The last Harry Potter book at that. Waterstones Redditch. Will never forget the rain we had that night was absolutely tipping it down but a warm summer night. Good times.
The last midnight release I did was GTA V and that was in Blockbuster of all places so it's safe to say that won't happen again 😂 Got fond memories of midnight launch events and the ensuing late night getting stuck in to the game!
I got back into gaming just before Skyrim released. I remember Destructoid featuring a video about Skyrim and that was the first I had heard of it. Weird thing is I have never been able to get into the game, although I have tried 3 times.
To make a point about the PS5 and Xbox Series Consoles not having hype, that mostly relies on them coming out at the worst timing possible. The hype was there when the trailers for both consoles were out but it came during COVID and a chip shortage making it near damn impossible to get. Tons of big retailers barely got any consoles and most of them got scalped. However when the new Nintendo console comes out next year. The hype will be through the roof.

A short video retrospect would be a fun video! What you like / dislike or has any of your thoughts and opinions changed over those 13 years perhaps?
I’m 28 and remember world at war playing it at my friends house. Feel so old 😢

I think GTA VI or The Elder Scrolls 6 will probably be the next big midnight releases.
Hopefully, the only problem is where, in so many places the physical shops don’t exist anymore 😭
I was 26 one day, blinked and I’m 35 with 2 kids.
I bought GTA IV from a small independent shop that no longer exists for £100 a day before it released.
Stupid really, just to flex on MySpace.
Would be cool to have midnight physical release but where could someone actually go and get it? No GAME stores and no 24hour supermarket
The last midnight release I went to was red dead redemption 2 in 2018 and it was Game I went 2 lol
