This was absolutly heartbreaking and hard to watch. Then things seemed to turn around but then the plate perished. Thank God she left babies and a piece of herself to remember her by. Must have been such a joy to raise those babies and seeing glimpses of their mother! May she rest in peace :(
Haha that's a funny way to make a video. Pretty awesome though what happened. Talk about a disaster turning into a beautiful thing! This happened to the owner of my LFS with an orange fungia. Guy brought it in to the shop and traded it in as the rock it was connected to had a digi on it with a "dead" fungia at the bottom. 2 years later he said there are a half a dozen baby orange fungias growing. I am now the proud owner of one of them! Tiny little guy, about the size of my thumb nail and brilliant orange color!
Omg i was to late I read your information . I throw my plate already 😢😢 my plate was so beautiful. The base is yellow and tentacles are green. I bought $250 😢😢. But thank you so much your sharing video.
Could you do another video on plate corals? One that includes it's basic needs and how to prevent bleaching. Lights, water flow, what yours likes to eat and how often etc. Thanks! Love the video and your dramatics. It was fun to watch.
I really enjoyed this video, I just wish I would have seen it a few months ago...I had a plate coral that was also damaged by a rock and eventually died and I removed it thinking it could be spreading disease.. Great info and very entertaining
Great video!! I definitely needed this. Hey, if I am thinking correctly you said in another video something about buying corals from other reefers out there. If so, where do you get yours? Someone told me they buy a lot on eBay but I was a little leery about it.. What do you think? Or is there somewhere else where people are able to exchange corals?
+Ashley L Hi Ashley, thanks. There are lots of places to buy coral from besides your LFS. There are frags swaps in certain areas you have to look out for on Facebook and online. There are lots of private vendors there and often hobbyists exchange coral there. On forums and Facebook you can find people in your area selling coral out of their homes and you typically can just message them and meet up with them. I have never used eBay, a lot of people do though. Some eBay vendors are simply those private vendors just selling online too!
Congrats on the plate coral I had one die in three days about two years ago the thing I noticed was that it started to decompose and I took it out of the tank , what your saying is to leave it in the tank, won't that pollute the water reason am asking is because I just got another one and I want to make sure what to do for it to thrive and if anything happens what to do.
Usually plates die slowly and so there is always a small portion of the coral alive right before it dies. I think a water change is worth it or take it out and put it into its own little container until you can kinda clean it off before putting it back in.
thanks for answering just want to know as much as I can about them i would like for this one to last me as much as posible its eating every day i give it mysid and brine i wait until lights go off that way my always hungry fish won't steel the food
Question I was out of town for one full week and 2 days, on the on the 4 day of vacation my Sister calls me and said your water is all cloudy, I said look for the fan, she said if at fallen so I fold her that's why the water is like that the fan was blowing the sand everywhere but she did not want to miss with it no to make it worse being that she knows nothing about the salt water hobby, long story short I get back on Sunday and the sand is all over the plate Coral and is mostly all dried up but can still see some of the little tentacles whatever you call them, u think I may live or not
got a dead orange plate with probably 30-40 babies that i can see its been about 3 weeks since i noticed this .... i got pictures i was wondering what your thoughts are ... i got a 2 part and mag ... never dosed before was wondering if i could mess up the process by dosing all a sudden... thanks
It is a little bit of both. Eventually it will be such a weak connection, but it is ok to just tap it off even when it's barely on there. Imagine it like, there isn't really any harm in pulling a wiggly tooth out, that was going to fall out anyways.
Very good question. If you have an algae problem in your tank you need to address that as a whole. I recommend Bacter M from Continuum Aquatics for that. Try to pull it off gently or brush it very lightly in case any babies have already started growing.
f*ck it i wish i had seen this video 3 mouths ago because my one had died and i removed it from my tank but thank you for this video as i have learnt something :)
LOL you just leave it in the tank and when the babies grow your pick it up your break it up then settle them back down in the sand and tell people you got a few for sale
Great quality videos . Keep it up . I love your videos out of all TH-cam
Thank you for documenting this. Its information will be worth so much to so many.

I have a nano tank and need a small one inch, possibly 2 inch plate coral. Any suggestions where I can purchase one? Thank you
Man i loved this video i have a plate but its also not doing well but after this that i saw there is hope after all
Also wondering if these can be fragged. As well as where would be a good place to sell frags, plate coral offspring ect?
Online forums, local fish store, facebook groups.
What do I do when the flesh is completely coming off? Do I put it under low light? Do I wash off the dead flesh?

Armando Elizondo Jr. Did it live?
Hey my plate coral has damaged skin on the underside. Should i worry?

As long as you are not overdosing you should be fine. Why mess with it though if things seem to be doing ok without the dosing so far?
yeah thats what i was thinking ... how long till they mature ??? or round about !! appreciate your time tho thanks
For them to be ready to come off the mother coral, the size of quarters or so, might take 3 months to a year!
will they all stay on the skeleton of the mother or will they walk off on there own ???

Mine is all puffed out. Can she recover from this?
Yes! That doesn't always mean that it is dying.
awesome~ nice editing
How to clip them off

If one dies and algae starts growing on it, should i try cleaning it off or let it be?
