Those vertical rock crop "scampers" in PA are no joke! I was feelin' the tone in your voice. PA prepares you for the lava fields here in my state along the PCT. So impressed with how you navigate thru adversity and roll with the punches. Master Jedi Dixie..You're quite the trooper Ms. Jessica!

Thank you to you and your editor for sharing your AT experience. You've honestly inspired and given me that final push to go out there and actually do something REAL WITH MY LIFE in the near future. All the best for your Pacific Crest Through Hike.

The pinnacle trail is right near my house where I grew up! And your family lives so close to my area where I live now!! Such a small world! Yet again the AT just about runs through my back yard! 😂😂 and those damn rocks are typical on PA trails... gets old lol

I live in PA and i hike this section of trail all the time! its cool to see the views i see here on your journey. the rocks there on that section are terrible but you get used to them.

when I was a child 30 years ago that superfund site near palmerton did not even have a blade of grass on it. about ten years ago there was a couple hundred acre fire on that section of trail and the growth then was sparse. I'm really enjoying your blog. thank you!

Been watching your videos and truly amazing what all you have accomplished. What’s really touching is losing a pet I’m a pretty tough guy hold back a lot but losing a pet really is emotional mans best friend brings tears.

I know this all happened a long time ago, but I just wanted to say I’m so sorry about sugar. Our fur babies are our family too. It’s just heartbreaking watching you go through such a devastating loss. Having been there, I cried with you a couple years later.

On my 1994 thru hike that area above Lehigh Gap was barren of any vegatation. Its good to see some plant life returning to what appeared to be Dannte's Inferno. Your hike brings back some great memories. Why don't you check out ALDHA and come to their annual Gathering in October after your adventure. A lot of like minded people that get it. I know you are looking forward to Katadyn as the end but trust me it will only be the beginning. Keep pushing yourself to do the impossible.

Love the views looking down at the bridge. I can't even imagine doing any of the trail alone, wish I had done this when I was young.

Thank you! It's never too late to start. There were multiple folks in their 70's out thru-hiking this year. Don't let your age stop you!

+Homemade Wanderlust If I could get someone to go with me I would seriously consider it. I do plan to get in better physical shape, do some dayhikes, get some gear, etc. Maybe I could get a friend to do a section hike at Clingmans Dome and Newfound Gap. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement. "a journey of 2,000 miles begins with the first step." :-)

Great update Dixie! I love the view of the bridge when you climbed the rock wall, beautiful. I love the history of Allentown, PA and some of their covered bridges as well. You're fearless to be scaling rock walls and video recording at the same time. btw., impressive that the guitarist has made it that far with instrument still intact. Be safe. I bet you get to see the stars clearly at night. Glimpsed the Milky Way yet : )

Whoa, you're giving me vertigo, glad the rocks weren't wet, too! Glad you have the trail to keep you focused on life after Sugar's ordeal and loss. Be strong. My mantra from the fire service was "Omnis Cedo Domus". (We all go home).

Thanks for putting us right down on the rocky, rocky trail, Dixie. Are you using your poles or on hands and feet? Do a pro & con on poles, how much you used them, how much they got in the way, how many hikers lost, broke, or quit on poles?

I mention to everyone that hikes the AT in PA. That's the worst place they could have routed the trail through Rocksylvania. Just a few hours west of there those talus fields disappear. The eastern slope is horrible.
And that kind of trail navigation is called "scrambling" by the trail running community.

OMG, you girls know how to edit! I'm not done balling my eyes out over the loss of your dog and now this video starts and you absolutely cracked me up! Thanks for sharing and I am so sorry for your loss. I want to hike the AT but and so scared to leave my dog at home if you see my videos you'll see she is always with me on my adventures and I just don't know how I'd do it without her, contrary, I don't know how a cocker spaniel could walk the AT. her legs are too short :-)

Great work on knocking out miles! Hope you catch the Family!
Note to the editor: I know that she is WAY ahead of the videos, so can you maybe put the date up at the beginning of each video to give us a perspective of when this was?

Have been to the BWCAW several times. It is yet to be determined, but I may be getting to old and out of shape to go again. I will say, everybody owes themselves at least one trip. I'm not sure if the paddling or the hiking is more enjoyable!

Dixie, I know you're through with the AT, but now that you're on the PC, you should considering doing leg drains every night. You literally prop your feet straight up in the air so your blood drains down and new blood circles through. My brother is a distance runner and distance running coach and he swears by it after log runs

FWLIW: Your sunrise footage, starting at about 0:52, reminds me of the beginning of the "Dawn Of Man" sequence from 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Really....

Homemade Wanderlust >>> Watch the movie. Read the novel. Repeat as necessary...《grin》

    • @Allan_aka_RocKITEman
      @Allan_aka_RocKITEman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Homemade Wanderlust >>> That "Repeat as necessary" is something I heard Arthur C. Clarke say in a video clip. He was suggesting that for people who had trouble *understanding* the movie, "2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY".
*I personally* like to call 2001 'visually narrated'. Don't just *listen to* what is *said* in this movie. The first spoken words are at something like 22 minutes into the film. The Dawn of Man sequence is first, & has no dialog. Instead of just *listening* to the film, *WATCH* what happens. And it will likely take MORE THAN ONE SITTING if you do not read the novel.
One other point: Part of the movie involves a manned mision to the planet Jupiter. In the novel, the destination is the planet Saturn. {Clarke later wrote three sequel novels, & in all of them he changed the 'destination' to Jupiter.} Don't let that 'confuse you' between the novel & the film.

Gee, one minute you're hiking treacherous rocky mountains, the next socializing with fellow a large group of hikers. - I'm finding I need to pull out my maps ( or search maps) to see the geography of your location. And it's hard to find maps that show elevation. I hope the opening shot situation worked out ok (and I think we all need an bathroom emergency plan for getting stuck in a bad Interstate standstill, don't you?) You probably have a too many posts to read them all.

After hiking over 1000 miles, I think I would not very attentive to the "veteran thru hiker". I guess I just have a bad attitude but I figure if I do not know by now, what he tells will not help. The only way I can learn more is by experience..... so onward.
