Great tips. My problem one is taking those necessary breaks. It is extremely important but I often forget to do so until the pain hits. It wasn't such a serious issue until I got hurt. Now, I really need to pay attention to this. I had a master instructor years ago who taught how to sew without pinning. It was wonderfully helpful but there are times when the pins and basting are more useful. She also taught me how wonderful, satisfying and secure some handstitching techniques were, such as a hand picked zipper insertion. Thanks for these tips! I've just finished pants for my daughter and granddaughter dropped off on her porch this morning. Now I'm making the little one some dungarees for playing in the garden once it's warm enough to start planting. HUgs from a distance.
I also find taking breaks the hardest tip to follow! I get a lot of pain whilst sewing and generally using a desk so I wanted to emphasise that part of "sewing technique". I also use all those methods of basting, flat tacking and hand-stitching. Everything in its place :)
@@TheCrimsonStitchery Yes indeed, everything in the right place and I would add time. If only we could learn to listen to our body's needs rather than just what our minds want. Now, I'm going to go sew some more and hope I remember to get up and move more than just between the cutting table and the machine. Have my water ready though. HUgs
Hi Anushka. I loved your podcast on sewing. Speaking of scrubs and a nurse, I have worn lots of scrubs over the years. In retirement now, I started sewing pajama scrubs a few years back, to the tune of 15 pairs. I used flannel exclusively and they came out great. Thank you for what you do. Carol
Thank you for such great tips! I will be trying them out for the masks that I am making. I am a beginner with sewing and never thought of sewing a chain of pieces like that. What a great idea.
Excellent, Anushka ! One that I’ve found especially useful in my sewing is the tip you mention on learning key measurements by eye. I’m always surprised when I eyeball maybe an inch or half-inch, etc. and find that I’m exactly on-target. This has been especially useful recently as I’ve been sewing masks for family and friends, and also sent a batch to my local shelter for people who are homeless.
Nice podcast. I have used all of those tips thru the years except with quilting I have placed my pins across instead of vertical because you can take them out without lifting the foot. Great job! Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I was inspired by your channel to buy a machine (I initially followed for the knitting) and I am sewing my first dress, after a few other garments!
What I do, which does and doesnt speed up sewing - you’re supposed to press every seam as you go, but I just press the seams that I’m going to cross with another seam or line of sewing. Ill also just press the seam with my fingernail and do a proper press of the whole garment at the end (unless its a sleeve cap)
thanks for the sewing tips! just a silly remark : i am from belgium and when you started your podcast talking about 'scrubs' i did not know at all where you were talking about. in my simple english it means rubbing hard to clean, so i googled it and when i found out that the NHS does not have the means to provide their personal with the necessary clothes i was very very much surprised that this is possible in a civilised country. on the other hand : your friend-doctor will sure be pleased with her colourfull scrub. by the way: would you wear such a scrub as pyjamas?
I know. It makes me really angry and I got very cross about the situation over the weekend. It's a shocking lack of foresight and adequate planning by the government, and then a gap in the supply chain due to reliance on offshore production. Yes, I'm sure you could use these patterns as pyjamas too. Happy sewing.
Hello...my sewing speed is too much slow...people stitch in 2 hours but it took me whole day to complete a dress......due to this I run away from stitching......I do very fine stitching.but due slow speed I have to face depression.do u have any solution for me?
More machine sewing please. Very worthwhile video

Such great tips, batching tasks seems so unbelievably simple but something I'd never thought to do - I'll be using that for sure!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for making this video, I love watching sewing tips
you're welcome, hope it helped!

Thank you! Flannel scrubs sound very comfy!

That's brilliant! Yes I agree, I often second-guess myself on the measurements, it's good to trust in our skills and abilities

Yes that's true, I do use both directions of pinning for different purposes. I definitely learnt my chain-piecing tips from quilting methods!
Very good tips from a real Pro. Thanks Anushka 🙏
My pleasure 😊
