Google and Apple have already solved this problem with a new (encrypted) communication protocol called RCS, which replaces SMS that they mentioned in this clip. This is a case of the journalists being five years behind the times in technology, as usual. Mind you, Google had to fight a lot to get Apple to adopt RCS, because Apple liked having iMessage as an iPhone-exclusive feature and didn't want to support anything that made Android phones easier to use or more secure. The cell companies themselves have little control over the whole situation at the moment; RCS moves responsibility from them to the phone makers (and particularly Google, since they host the RCS relay servers).

Why doesn't the FBI mandate that messages between the Apple and Android platforms be encrypted??? It seems like the logical thing to have mandated. What is wrong with these companies that for the sake of competition would allow unencrypted messages to be made vulnerable to criminals. 😠

If your phone is ON, they are listening to your conversation. Just start talking about purchasing an Item, the advertisements for that item will appear on you phone.
I don't answer calls from unknown numbers neither texts or emails. That delete button comes in really handy. 😊😊😊😊
Lol. SSA told us they'be returning calls from private no id numbers.
The biggest thieves are in the government.
My brother worked as intestate truck driver for 20 years, was forced to paid taxes as self-employed unmarried no dependants. He passed away from a heart attack at the age of 54. No one can collect his survivor benefits even though he left behind disabled relatives. I hope whoever eats his money chokes on it as forced taxation cost my brother his life (had to stay on the road longer just to be able to pay enormous federal taxes).
Similar happened to me. I had 20 work credits when I became a housewife. Now 20 years later I wanted to check on it they told me those 20 credits are annuled "since last payment into SSA you made was 10 years ago".
Thief in the government is what you should be worried about.
I have my phone silenced from all calls unless it’s ppl numbers programmed into my phone ..
Block numbers or they'll keep calling, but know they will use different numbers to throw people off.
@@KellyKelly-qd7my Your credits don't go away, but you need a total of 40 credits (quarters of a year). They don't have to be consecutive. The 20 credits you need equals more 5 years of work or like longer if you spread it out. They don't have to be full quarters. You can just work a short time each quarter as long as the tax is taken out in each of those quarters. Or you can sign up for spousal benefits from your husband's work. If divorced, you have to have been married 10 years.

Not a good Idea. Payphones were either "out of order" or some douchbag would stay on the phone for hours talking to their boyfriend or girlfriend.

Canadian here. I was receiving more scam calls and texts than legit ones. I put my phone on Airplane mode and left it on for most of the time just checking quickly for important calls and messages. After a few months I stopped receiving them. If you can manage not being tied to your phone like it's life support this should not be an issue. I think Airplane mode was a serious deflection shield and the scam calls and texts robo callers after a while passed by my number that was probably programmed into a list.
What's it called when our own government is doing the exact same thing.
Oh. This is called protecting national security. This is their mantra.

Is it really the government or do they basically give the government no options and have their cake and eat it too and basically control the government?

You can use temporary SMS numbers online...
Just spell out your number
Next time create a temporary email. Never download files nor click links. If they try to get you to download or click on links. It’s a scam.
Or just use your friends phone 😂
Doesn't matter. Credit bureau data breach has all your info.

Bring back in person banking. 👍
The FBI warns us of using regular text messages but they aren't doing anything to ensure that phones regardless of the OS (Android, Apple, etc) being used should follow a universal encryption standard? All it takes is a simple security update in the phone. Am I missing something there?

When it comes to electronics there's always some type of BS

After all these years , knowing that The Internet and all electronic devices are not secure and probably never will be , anyone who uses a phone or a computer to do any kind of financial business is leaving a door open for others to get in .
What are you supposed to do? Especially with online banks
@Here4TheHeckOfIt There are still local Banks . I understand that sometimes things are cheaper to buy on-line however I have come to realize that shopping locally is better for local economy in the long run , so I don't need to order on-line anymore . Also by using cash it keeps retail inflation lower that's why some businesses will give a discount for cash . In the end it just depends on your personal needs and wants .

Most carriers have an app that you can put on your phone to access your account etc. Very recently, those applications have a setting that when you select it prevents your phone number from being transferred to another phone or device (the dreaded sim swapping). Supposedly, if you set this even you will not be able to switch your number to another phone unless you first disable that setting.
What you should do: don't trust the government.
My father came from a Socialist nation and his wise words were never look directly at them - they will think ill of you and then look for something from you. He was 100% correct.
Better than that, don't listen to internet morons spreading idiotic and paranoid fallacies.
Then you can't trust any company either because they are all in cahoots with the government and all the bureaus like consumer protection.
@Empower-Women 😂 except we aren't a socialist nation ..we are a corporate nation
Why doesn't the FBI mandate that messages between the Apple and Android platforms be encrypted??? It seems like the logical thing to have mandated. What is wrong with these companies that for the sake of competition would allow unencrypted messages to be made vulnerable to criminals. 😠
apple is going to say we are holding the phones wrong hence why texts are being hacked
Can you imagine if the FBI mandated every letter you write from now on has to be manually encrypted with a cipher, and fined you if you sent a letter written in plain English? You're a private person using private companies' products to conduct private business. The government as a whole has nothing to do with this (and if they did, we'd be looking at the FCC or FTC, not the FBI).
That said, Google and Apple have already spent the time and money to develop a new encrypted protocol called RCS that replaces SMS. Recent versions of iPhone and Android both support RCS, so texts between them actually are encrypted now. This news clip is based on outdated information.
They want to play hacking games together to see who can secure links the best. You didnt know they did this? They make people vulnerable all of the time. Instead of labs they use people. Its not ethical, nor does it seem legal - but "it's their insiders game"
