【Verb Stem + 気味、Noun + 気味】
-like; -looking; -looked; tending to~
Often used for negative things
"although the degree or extent is negligible, if feels like 〜"
Expresses a situation or tendency.
疲れ気味= looks / seems tired.
太り気味= looks / seems large.
遅れ気味= tends to be late.
彼は仕事が忙しくて最近少し疲れ気味だそうです。
He seems to be a little tired recently because he is busy with work.
コロナによる外出自粛で太り気味なので、毎朝ジョギングを始めました。
I started jogging every morning since I was a little overweight because of the restriction of going out due to coronavirus.
彼は待ち合わせ時間に遅れ気味なので、もう一度注意しておきます。
He tends to be late for meetings, so I will warn him again in advance
寝不足気味= looks / seems to be sleep deprived.
風邪気味= having a slight cold
彼はちょっと風邪気味のようです。
He seems to have a slight cold.
明日は大切な面接なので、彼はちょっと緊張気味です。

A way of expressing the feeling of being happy when someone is having failure, bad luck, disaster, etc.

Hi Masa Sensei . Thank you for this video. May i ask the difference between the use of “そうです“/らしいい (which as i understand is similar in meaning to seems like/ looks like/ appears to be .....) with 〜ぎみ taught here.? Many thanks in advance
the words that you can use with 気味 are limited. It is mainly used to say that someone/something is in a slightly certain state/condition. So 太り気味 means “(currently) slightly fat/ on the fat site”
“そうです“/らしい are seems like/ looks like/ appears to be .....!

What's the difference between 気味, そう、and みたい?
気味 is used with a NOUN.
This is used to express that something looks or seems to be a certain way!
you can say 風邪気味です to yourself and to other people.
そうです comes together with STEM WORD.
“looks” or “looks like,” “seems” or “seems like.”
you cannot say 具合が悪そうです to yourself. Only for other people.
みたいだ express judgments based on situations.
you can say 風邪みたいです to yourself and to other people.

「気味」と「がち」の違いは少し大変ですよ… 特に「tends to」の意味... その意味は説明してください？
例えば:
忘れがち = tend to forget
忘れ気味 = tend to be forgetful?
「～気味」は、名詞や形容詞の後ろについて、その状態が少し感じられることを示します。微妙な感覚や程度を表現するために使われます。
「～がち」は、名詞や形容詞の後ろについて、その傾向や習慣が強く出ることを示します。例えば、「忘れがちな人」（よく忘れる人）、「遅刻がちな癖」（遅刻する傾向がある癖）など、ある特定の傾向や癖を強調するために使われます。
つまり、「～気味」は微妙な感覚や程度を表し、「～がち」は特定の傾向や習慣が強いことを示す点が違いとして挙げられます。
