  • When onion bulbs are as large as they will grow, the tops become weak and fall over. When over half of the tops have fallen over, the onions are ready to harvest. Drying and curing the onions will help them last for several months. And, certain varieties can keep all winter. Produced by the Department of Communications at Kansas State University. Will it ruin my White Onions to rinse the dirt off, before I hang them up to dry?
