One of the greatest Heavyweights of all time showcasing his Peek-a-Boo defense! People have been wanting me to make this video for quite a while now so here it finally is. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod
What's impressive here to me is that Mike is moving forward while being defensive. Most fighters (Floyd Mayweather, Pernell Whittaker, etc.) that are defensive geniuses are usually on the back foot while evading. Mike, throughout this entire video, walked his opponents down and imposed his game while avoiding their best punches. Respect to Iron Mike Tyson. #legend
What makes Mike Tyson so unique is that his training videos were just as impressive, if not more, than his knockout reel. He had freakish speed and haunting power and we are yet to see the combination of both in today's Heavyweight division.
That song combine with Mike so well… the guy was an antihero almost a villain but with a tender side in him. His speed was the best also his power and his defensive skill with Rooney was something else. Even to this day he still has power tho and I just want Mike to win against that TH-camr.
Beautiful to watch, Iron Mike at his peak was unbeatable. I know a lot of people say when he fought the really good boxers he came up short, but that was near the end of his career after years of partying and drugs. Where were they when he was at his peak? Avoiding him like the plague!
It's the little things Tyson does, or used to do, that made him great. The way he'll start in southpaw to sneak in extra crossed distance while not having to explode forward. The famous D'Amato shifts that helped him attain instant angles which he used both offensively (against Razor Ruddock. Watch closely; his shift is like a big gazelle punch but he lands in southpaw with his legs close and crossing up Ruddock's, which causes him to trip) and defensively (against Buster Mathis when Tyson was against the ropes and also whenever Mike does a check hook against a lunging opponent such as Quick Tillis and I believe Hosea). The way he moves his lead leg back, switching to southpaw, when he sees an opportunity for his power right uppercut (seen against Bruno and Ribalta). The way he slips punches AND parries them at the same time, the way the Peekaboo style was intended for (against Bonecrusher Smith, I believe, around 0:42). Mike was an extremely skilled boxer. Those who are a bit too fanboyish towards him give him too much blind credit. Those who hate him debase all of his accomplishments and act like he was nothing or that he was a wuss that backed down when faced with "real challenges", which came at a point in his career where he trained for just a few weeks for a fight and partied the rest of the time. Mike strongly outboxed Oliver McCall whenever they sparred, the same Oliver who KO'd Lennox Lewis in the early 90s. Mike also beat Bruno in rounds 5 and 3 in their respective fights where Lewis beat Bruno in 7. Mike destroyed opponents that Evander had to go to decision on such as Lou Savarese, Larry Holmes, Alex Stewart (Holy in 8, Mike beat in 1), Pinklon Thomas (gave up against Holy in 7, Mike finished in 6), Henry Tillman (Holy in 7, Mike in 1). Lewis beat a good amount of Tyson's opponents earlier than Tyson did. I know this. I am merely trying to support the conclusion that Mike was a better fighter in the 80s than when Holyfield and Lewis met him in the 90s/00s. I like Holyfield more than Lewis, as Lewis heavily relied on solid fundamentals and his extreme range and height advantages to win. Against Klitschko, where those advantages dissipated against, he looked far from the dominant the fighter he was against the rest of his competition. Ironic, because Klitschko fought the same way Lewis did, but arguably did it better by virtue of having MORE height and reach. Iron Mike was a man who was a vastly undersized HW and had to use a risky and hard-to-master style to compete and defeat. He deserves credit because he was a great boxer. His career ended up disappointing and there will always be what-ifs surrounding him, but it goes to show the impact he has made on the sport.
NeoGodHand I don't count Tysons losses to Holyfield for the head butting and undeniable PED use, I don't count the loss to Lewis with Mike being on so many anti depressants and I say that from my own personal experience. Mikes last 2 losses can be counted up as his heart wasn't in it anymore. Mike is evermore angelic and should always be brought up in the goat dream fights.
@@privateinformation2360 I definitely understand with Holyfield, as it was proven after the fact that he was on HGH and other PEDs (I mean, look at those traps!) Holyfield did a lot of effective techniques against Tyson in their first fight such as clinching (Lennox used this very, very frequently as well. Tyson was horrible with clinching) and pushing Tyson's head down when he dipped low (a weakness of boxers who bob and dip a lot; Look at Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux). Still, all of this was overshadowed by Holyfield's egregious and excessive use of headbutting. Every time Tyson got to him and hit with a good shot or combination, Holyfield only got more and more aggressive with flat-out shoving Tyson and headbutting him. Tyson didn't play that shit in the 2nd match and, for better or worse, *put a stop to it* . I had Tyson winning the rematch up to that point, though it was only the 3rd round. I did not know about Tyson's antidepressant issue against Lennox. I chalked his loss up to lack of preparation; Because while Tyson looked great in the first two rounds, he quickly faded and couldn't close the distance with the explosiveness he had at the start as well as his abandonment of head movement. Not to mention the excessive holding on Lewis' part throughout the entire fight, where Lennox tied Tyson up almost every single time he got inside (and Tyson got inside A LOT as I recall) only to push him back and hit off the break.
NeoGodHand it is fact that Tyson was on anti depressants during training for and during the fight. The kid Steve O from jackass even told a story about how him and Mike were locked up in a hospital together and they shared the same Doctor as well as the drugs they were both placed on. It's on you tube as well as the video of a trainer who spoke about how Lennox should be ashamed of counting his win over Tyson knowing that Mike was on this medication. I've been on them myself and there's no one type for everyone you got to try several different types to find the one that works. As for the ones that don't work imagine feeling like a puddle of water and having to stand up.
procioneintubato yeah man you’re right. Soon as Rooney left he stopped working the body, stopped his head movement, and probably most important stopped training the way he should’ve been training. Had a whole bunch of people telling him that he didn’t need anything but one punch to win. Robin Givens and king didn’t help either.
The stupid groupies who started following him and taking over, after has quality corner was gone, was disgusting. When I realized during the Douglas fight they didn't even have an endswell with them, however you spell that, had to use a rubber glove filled with water? Unbelievable.
Prime Tyson was one of the best come forward aggressive swarmers who also had great defense, along with Duran, Qawi, Chavez, and most recently Lomachenko.
We'll never see another Ali! We'll definitely never see another Tyson! Reason saying is because today's heavyweights don't move like Ali nor have the reflexes. Heavyweights today don't have the defensive skill nor speed and power of Tyson while moving forward! Truly the last of the greatest we'll ever see again!

There will never be another champion like Iron Mike he was just ferocious and possessed such unique and powerful boxing ability, Perfect Blend Of A Fighter
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more perfect combination of body style and technique. Some guys have the wrong body type for the techniques they try to use (examples...Paul Williams, Adrien Broner, Robert Easter, etc.) Mike Tyson was the perfect marriage between body type and fighting style. Tyson along with Dwight Muhammad Qawi actually used being short to their advantage. Good video.
he lost that beautiful head movement, with the new trainers after kevin rooney, you can see that he looks bad in the fight against douglas and he looks even more rusty after the prison, man if he continued to train with rooney and kept his mind on the game he would have been a fucking beast, maybe he would have retired undefeated
No reason he couldn't have stayed sharp in prison. It wasn't the trainer it was Tyson's lack of control and discipline when everyone startled dying around him
you can train in prison but you can not train like you would outside and you wouldn't have the time in my opinion to even train properly, and yes sometimes it was mike's fault but now he has changed and that is the most important thing
He studied jose torres alot with the peek a boo style its very affective against a fighter who throws alot of combos because you or constantly moving and can counter easy
In order to defend like Mike Tyson in his prime, you literally have to be in your prime. If you reach late 20s or early 30s, better to just block punches or run like Mayweather. No one can execute what Tyson did defensively because they have to train that style at a young age and be in their best shape to move their whole body like that.
So glad I grew up at the same time Tyson was, so I can follow him. Also all the people he faced, not just their skill but also the different personalities. I guess that's why I've never really gotten into MMA that much. Plus I just have a personal distaste with someone jumping on their opponent who just fell to the ground, I mean I get it, I just personally appreciate a stand up fight more I suppose.
The guy looked so explosive when he came out of his crouch to land those hooks. That peekaboo style was tailor made for him. If he stayed focused he could've wiped out Lennox and Holyfield the same way he ran through Spinks.

Low center of balance and a natural athletism and mean streak
That poor fucker at 0:46 in probably the biggest mismatch in body size and weight . Imagine being him and looking like a welterweight and looking across the ring to Tyson who looks like a tank. Imagine the anxiety his parents would of had at ringside lol
2 dislike are Mitch Green & d.w.
