I’m loving the growth Aaron and the way you understand and sympathise with these guys on a level and try not to promote the negative side of their lives. No one is speaking about the obvious correlation between Jackson and the corruption of the local government level politics and the misappropriation of funds. Misappropriation doesn’t mean theft. It’s not an issue of funding for this area or funding for that area…it’s the fact that the local level government or political factions have no interest in growing these poverty zones. Much like democrat-ran cities up north, Jackson is a representation of their political leaders. Deion Sanders…and Ed Reed spoke to these factions the best as HBCU head coaches…the corruption within these communities, smh. Conservative policies could change and fix these areas, but as soon as it starts…people will scream, “gentrification’ or some other bs term that is anti-growth. Because ANY growth or restoration revolves around profit oriented policies….not hand-outs.
Yeah I'm from Durant, MS/ Holmes county area. One of if not the most impoverished county in MS. The town got around 1 million to remodel the historic train station her husband got the contract they barley even redone the windows probably spent less than 10,000 on it but the following months the mayor and her husband had a Corvette and new Hummer 🧐🤔 I really wish I had the connections and money to have them investigated

My boyfriend is 1 year into a 12yr sentence in Louisiana. I have pretty much seen and heard it all and the one thing I have learned is to shut tf up about situations I have never experienced. Definitely about trying to preach on what choices they had. I have a degree with two jobs and it's hard af trying to make it out here, so I can't possibly imagine the mental strength it would take to wake up every single day surrounded by drugs, guns, crime, no role models, and no real resources and still choose to do what's right. EVERY DAY FOR YEARS!!!! For all the people who say they made it out, my question is, have you done anything to try to help others get out since you now have an understanding of what it takes? I noticed a lot of older people giving advice to these guys, but who is actually putting anything in place to help them? There is plenty of criticism, but where is the help?

Just cause u black drill music is not the only music u can get into that is nonsense, black people more than just drill, grime and hip hop, we invented rock and roll, jazz, swing, rnb, soul, reggae, afrobeats, funk, house, garage etc... people dont do drill music rapping about 9-5s lets be for real, there is a difference between telling ur story and self stitching and making violent disses
You're killing it. Thanks for getting this content out! The most important thing to highlight is they all say, "my mama..." meaning they didn't grow up with a father. This is the most important thing in the black community. They don't grow up with a good standup father figure which leads to a loss of sense of self or self integrity because it wasn't instilled by their fathers so they go looking for that in the streets. Another thing is when you grow up with no resources or access to better things, then you only know what about what you got. Anyways, its always a pleasure watching your videos and if you wanna go somewhere really dangerous...two words... BALTIMORE, MARYLAND

As a Mississippi native, who now lives in Nashville Tn. My ❤️ just goes out to these young men. Who have so much potential . God Bless them All ❤️
I’m no longer blaming drill music for the violence…. It’s simply bad or the lack of proper parenting and guidance of young men….all these young men need a strong male figure in their lives, you can see it in their eyes that they are begging to be saved
I’m loving the growth Aaron and the way you understand and sympathise with these guys on a level and try not to promote the negative side of their lives. The sad thing is and I feel you understand is that these young men in these situations are literally boxed in and don’t necessarily have many other options. You can’t just say get a job when there’s no jobs to get or due to racism there not getting the jobs. It gets deep and my heart goes out to these guys. Good job bro.
Fuhhk the sympathy. Only tough love gon fix this. Y’all lost. 😢
Sick shyt.
Now they created the "white district"
Almost like a mix of policy ideas would work better then a hard left or hard right push
I was talking about the mayor sorry didn't explain that
It's a whole population of Black folks from the same ethnic group and same age as them that grew up in the hood or didn't grew up in the hood that work trade jobs, work in the medical field, play sports, own success business etc etc these yns in the videos are just our bad ass cousins who just need a lil help ❤️

Of all the ones interviewed, Marlowe really stood out to me. Seems like a genuine guy in a bad situation and doing his best to get out of it. He keeps his head down and stays on the grind. His crew wasn't hype men, just being support for their guy. Hopefully dudes situation improves drastically
whats even sadder is that a well meaning black man could not go into this area and make this kind of content, you would instantly be a target. kuddos to you for going into the trenches

Bliss to Aaron for allowing the world to see America.
They don’t need ancestors they need two parents
They are free. Victim mentality
How can you say it’s institutional racism when the institution is majority your people? Mississippi has the most black state elected officials in the US.
I used to live in an environment like this, at the age of under 20 they are looking for their identity, feeling tough, challenging others to be brave, finally turning to selling drugs and clashing with other dealers, at this point it will be bloody

As a Black woman that attended HS in Jackson, MS, this is so disturbing, disgusting and disappointing. The community is under siege by our own boys.
They need to learn history and reconnect with their bloodline, many of our ancestors owned 100s of acres in Mississippi.

For 6 years, I worked in an all male corrections facility. I left corrections to work for the courts. My part-time job is at a homeless center.
These young men are so talented. Great insight into their lives--it's real in the field!
Statistically the average small time street level drug dealer makes less than someone working the fries at McDonald’s. U choose to do dumb shit
thats probably correct, but however, if you just happened to be RELATED to one of these dudes, you're a sitting duck working a 9-5. I'm also curious to how many McDonalds are even willing to open in one of these neighborhoods.

It’s crazy how they’ve managed to brainwash themselves into thinking like that.
Excellent documentary because you actually documented and didnt glorify the lifestyle like many others try to do. You went like a true journalist.
You can tell at 41:13 when you started talking to him about trauma and started to show you cared he felt some type of way and you can tell you got through to him. Dude probably has a good heart, he just dont see a way out. I think these youth need to be given a path away from all this. Show them they are worth more than throwing their life away over nothing. Notice how every single person thinks they’re the baddest, they’re the one that’s different, they’re the one that’s been through the most, blah blah blah. It’s always the same bs when you put a camera on people like this.
