It’s crazy when I hear “I ain’t have a choice”…listen, ANY young person reading this…I grew up in South Jackson, used to feel like I didn’t have a choice either. Did a lot I’m not proud of, but I made up my mind there had to be a way out. I came from NOTHING! I’m talking sharing a room with my two brothers, single mama 5 kids, hell I remember rolling pennies to get a black n mild…there’s always a way out. The streets the easiest choice but it comes with the hardest consequences. Nothing worth having in life will be given to you, it’s on you though whether you’re willing to make the sacrifices to go after them.

As a white man, born and raised in Mississippi (Pearl), and having lived in the Jackson area the majority of my life. I’d love to talk to you about my experiences. I am someone who grew up in a decent area, with a good upbringing, but surrounded by a lifetime of the most mixed culture anyone could imagine. I created an account for the sole reason of writing this message, because I believe that I come from a much more diverse culture/society than is predominately portrayed by many in videos. I’d love for you to be able to speak about the generation who didn’t see that divide, and who has lived with many of their closest friends being of the opposite race, class, etc. I know that you’ve spent your fair share of time and videos focusing on Mississippi, but I am (documented) a 6th generation of this area, and my family has a lot of history here, including a large hand in the old “Gold Coast”, which is now Pearl (preciously East Jackson) which people like Johnny Cash wrote songs about. I don’t care about being on camera, but would just love to speak with you because I do believe you are interested in learning and knowing what the true dynamics are in certain areas. I appreciate your hard work and the videos you produce, but I’d love to give you a perspective from someone who has lived a very diverse lifestyle in the state of Jackson area of Mississippi. Best of luck!

The sad thing is and I feel you understand is that these young men in these situations are literally boxed in and don’t necessarily have many other options. No one is speaking about the obvious correlation between Jackson and the corruption of the local government level politics and the misappropriation of funds. Misappropriation doesn’t mean theft. It’s not an issue of funding for this area or funding for that area…it’s the fact that the local level government or political factions have no interest in growing these poverty zones. Much like democrat-ran cities up north, Jackson is a representation of their political leaders. Deion Sanders…and Ed Reed spoke to these factions the best as HBCU head coaches…the corruption within these communities, smh. Conservative policies could change and fix these areas, but as soon as it starts…people will scream, “gentrification’ or some other bs term that is anti-growth. Because ANY growth or restoration revolves around profit oriented policies….not hand-outs.

My boyfriend is 1 year into a 12yr sentence in Louisiana. I have pretty much seen and heard it all and the one thing I have learned is to shut tf up about situations I have never experienced. Definitely about trying to preach on what choices they had. I have a degree with two jobs and it's hard af trying to make it out here, so I can't possibly imagine the mental strength it would take to wake up every single day surrounded by drugs, guns, crime, no role models, and no real resources and still choose to do what's right. EVERY DAY FOR YEARS!!!! For all the people who say they made it out, my question is, have you done anything to try to help others get out since you now have an understanding of what it takes? I noticed a lot of older people giving advice to these guys, but who is actually putting anything in place to help them? There is plenty of criticism, but where is the help?

You're killing it. Thanks for getting this content out! The most important thing to highlight is they all say, "my mama..." meaning they didn't grow up with a father. This is the most important thing in the black community. They don't grow up with a good standup father figure which leads to a loss of sense of self or self integrity because it wasn't instilled by their fathers so they go looking for that in the streets. Another thing is when you grow up with no resources or access to better things, then you only know what about what you got. Anyways, its always a pleasure watching your videos and if you wanna go somewhere really dangerous...two words... BALTIMORE, MARYLAND

The production on this video is award winning worthy. Props to ya kid. London in the house. This deserves accolades in filmography. The Mississippi Delta is rising up and that’s a beautiful thing, just unfortunate that blood the righteous must pay to get there. T.H.E.M. (The Honorable Elijah Muhammad) Spoke the truth that the South will rise in the last days. PEACE.

Notice how every single person thinks they’re the baddest, they’re the one that’s different, they’re the one that’s been through the most, blah blah blah. It’s always the same bs when you put a camera on people like this. Nothing but boasting about how bad things are for them and people around them while being oblivious to the fact that in most cases they are the cause and *THEY ARE THEIR OWN WORST ENEMY.*
Rinse & repeat. It’s not racism. It’s not poverty. It’s stupid people doing stupid bs and making excuses for it - period.

After 2013 everything changed. Outside influence moved through Mississippi and took advantage of the genuine niceness of the people from Jackson to the delta. I never thought I would see this type of evolution there. I love Mississippi and the people that still stand tall. This is not the way
