Swimming in Ice in the North of Sweden - Haparanda & Tornio

  • I wanted to visit Haparanda, the most eastern town in Sweden to be able to visit Tornio by walking into Finland on foot. I also wanted to swim in a hole in the ice (isvak). I had an amazing time in the north of Sweden, learning the history of the town, trying to speak the minority language Meänkieli, trying to differentiate between Swedish and Finnish food, seeing a golf course in two timezones and the favorite grill of Eurovision winner Lordi, as well as Kukkolaforsen (the Kukkola Rapids). I recommend everyone to visit Haparanda and to visit Tornio.

    I was there for a weekend in the summer of 2018. It was the hottest summer in 204 years and Tornedalen felt like the tropics! One of the most beautiful natural places I have been to.

    I tend to visit haparanda from time to time, I do only live 30km away in Kemi. Ikea being of course one of the shops, and snusgrossen, I don't use snus myself, but they sell soda which costs like 10-12€/24 cans, which is way cheapers than in Finland. Oh, and candyworld, one of the biggest candyshops in Europe

    Min pappa kom från Haparanda. Själv har jag inte varit där sedan jag var 17-18. När vi var små, brukade vi rymma till Torneå för att köpa godis och läsk.

    Fantastic video! Btw, just curious, but how well do you (and Swedes in general) understand Fennoswedish accents?

    • @JackRussel1997
      @JackRussel1997 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Understanding actual Finnish is impossible for Swedes. But understanding Swedish with a Finnish accent is easy for Swedes

    • @ToastedCigar
      @ToastedCigar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JackRussel1997 Okay, thanks for answer! I've always thought that Swedes have somewhat of a hard time understanding Swedish with Finnish accent, but I guess I was wrong.

    • @JackRussel1997
      @JackRussel1997 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fellow yeah no it’s not considered particularly difficult to understand. It’s mostly seen as quite cute and melodic. The only accent that some Swedes might find difficult is the accent from Scania (Skåne) which is in the very south Sweden since it has some influences from Danish
